How to replace shock absorbers on a Bosch washing machine

Replacing the shock absorbers on a Bosch washing machineA terrible knocking, clanking, and rattling noise during the spin cycle indicates that it's time to replace the shock absorbers in your Bosch washing machine. If you have the money, it's best to hire a qualified technician; they'll do the job quickly and efficiently. If you're looking to save a little money, you should first read our instructions before starting the repair, to avoid any potential problems that may arise. So, let's get started preparing for the repair.

We prepare everything necessary

Do-it-yourself repairs to a Bosch washing machine are not something you can rush, and considering that replacing the shock absorbers is a fairly complex repair, it requires careful preparation, which is what we'll do now. We'll start by selecting the right tools, including:

  • screwdriver;
  • 13 mm drill;

The drill is needed to drill out the factory fasteners and remove the old shock absorbers.

  • set of heads;
  • set of screwdrivers;
  • awl;
  • pliers.

Besides a simple set of tools, we'll need a few components. First, new shock absorbers. Don't buy cheap Chinese knockoffs; it's better to buy genuine Bosch shock absorbers. Incidentally, you can now order them online from the Bosch store. Second, you'll need 13mm bolts, nuts, and washers (two of each). That's basically the entire repair kit.

How to get to the details?

Now we'll prepare the washing machine for repair. Unplug the machine, disconnect the inlet hose from the water supply (after turning off the water supply), and disconnect the drain hose from the trap. Twist the hoses together and secure them to the back of the machine to keep them out of the way. Now move the washing machine to a convenient location and begin disassembling it yourself.

  1. First you need toremove the top cover of the washing machine Bosch.
  2. We take the powder receptacle out of the niche.
  3. There's a screw on the side of the control panel; remove it. Also remove the screws hidden behind the powder drawer.
  4. Carefully move the panel to the side, trying not to tear off the wires.
  5. We place the car on the back wall and unscrew the screws located on the bottom, near the front legs.
  6. Open the hatch door, pry up the clamp holding the seal with a screwdriver, loosen it, and remove it. Tuck the seal inside the drum to keep it out of the way.
  7. We pull off the front wall of the machine, but be careful, the wires from the door lock will be pulled behind it, they need to be carefully removed.

Now that we've removed the front panel of the washing machine, we've finally reached the shock absorbers. Meticulous German mechanics insist that removing the shock absorbers requires completely disassembling the Bosch washing machine, including the drum. In this case, replacing the shock absorbers will be slightly easier, but you'll also end up with twice as much work. We'll try to avoid further disassembly.

We are making a replacement

First, you need to pump each of the shock absorbers and make sure at least one of them is faulty. Unscrew the lower screws that connect the shock absorbers to the washing machine body. At this point, everything is simple.At the top, the shock absorbers are attached directly to the tank using special plastic fasteners. You can't just remove them, so we'll use a 13mm drill bit. Insert the drill bit into a screwdriver and drill out the fasteners. Disconnect the old shock absorbers and discard them.

fastening the shock absorber to the body

Install the new shock absorbers and bolt them to the housing. On the other side, bolt them to the tub. Rock the tub to check the new shock absorbers' operation. Reassemble the Bosch washing machine in reverse order and reinstall it. Your DIY repair is now complete. If you have any questions, watch the instructional video. Good luck!
