Ariston washing machine does not drain water

Ariston does not drain waterSometimes, when washing clothes, consumers notice that their Ariston washing machine isn't draining. This problem is quite common in the Hotpoint Ariston line. There are several possible causes, and we've decided to discuss what could be wrong with your appliance and how to safely repair it.

The occurrence of a breakdown and its causes

If you notice your washing machine isn't draining, you need to pay attention to its behavior. First, you need to understand the symptoms of this problem. Some common "symptoms" include:

  • slow drain, with possible software failure;
  • After starting the wash, it stops when draining;
  • some times the water drains, and some times it doesn’t;
  • During washing, everything goes according to standard procedure, but during rinsing, the draining stops;
  • The spin cycle is not activated after draining is complete.

What causes a breakdown? The causes are varied, but in a specific case, the washing machine's behavior can help determine the cause. First of all, the equipment may display an error code indicating the nature of the malfunction.

  1. The pipe connecting the pump and the tank is clogged.
  2. The pump was clogged by a small object.
  3. The trash filter is clogged.
  4. The pump is out of order.
  5. The siphon or pipes are clogged.
  6. The water drain hose is clogged.

Cleaning the trash filter

The procedure is carried out in several stages. Even if you have no experience, you should be able to handle it. And if you encounter any problems, you can always call a professional.

First, you'll need to turn off the water and unplug the machine. You may need to move or lift the machine. You don't want to get electrocuted if any water leaks onto the floor.Cleaning the Ariston SM filter

The second step is to locate the filter, open the hatch cover, and remove the false panel. Typically, the hatch is held in place by a latch that can be pried open with a flat-head screwdriver. However, some models allow you to open it without any tools.

Use rags to drain the remaining water from the machine. To allow the waste to drain out, unscrew the filter. To avoid flooding the entire floor, place a small tray or other flat container underneath the machine.

In some machines, this procedure will not be necessary, as the water will flow automatically into the container placed underneath through a built-in chute. To completely drain the water, you need to turn the filter element plug 45-60 degrees to the left.

Remove the filter. This step requires cleaning and rinsing the filter. Remove any large debris first, then use a sponge to remove any residue, and rinse the filter with water. Additionally, clean the filter seat in the machine using the same sponge. The final step is to replace the filter.

Important! Never wash the filter with hot water, as this may cause deformation and reduce the elasticity of the gasket.

Cleaning the drain pipe

According to statistics, the most common cause of drain failure is a clogged drain hose. This hose can only be accessed through the bottom of the washing machine. Models with an open bottom are equipped with a hose that extends outward. Simply lay the machine on its side, and the hose will become visible. However, models with a tray or bottom cover require removing them to regain access to the hose. The Ariston washing machine, or more precisely, its hose, has three connection points: the tank, the pump, and the pressure regulation hose.

The first step is to loosen the hose clamps at each connection point. Afterward, simply slide the hose to the side. If the hose is in good condition, cleaning can be done with a special brush. This allows for thorough cleaning and then returning the part to its original position. However, if it is severely worn or damaged, it will need to be replaced, reinstalling it on the existing fasteners.

Interesting! You can thoroughly clean the hose with a citric acid solution. To prepare it, take 2 liters of water, dissolve 100 grams of citric acid in it, and then soak the hose in the resulting solution for several hours. Afterward, remove the part and rinse thoroughly with cold water.

Drain pump

This step involves checking the pump, or more specifically, determining if the impeller is jammed.It is located right behind the filter, and if even a small object (for example, a rivet from clothing) gets into it, it can cause a breakdown.

In view of the above, the first step is to try spinning the impeller. If it spins and there are no foreign objects, it's working properly. However, if the opposite is true, you'll need to immediately remove the foreign object. If this doesn't solve the problem, check the drain pump's electrical system.

To do this, remove the filter, following the instructions above. Then, set the machine to spin mode and illuminate the filter opening. A small flashlight or phone flashlight will do the trick. If the impeller stops moving, this is a clear sign of pump failure. Now that the problem has been identified, we need to move on to the next step—installing a new component.

But before replacing the drain pump, you'll need to purchase one. Most washing machines use standard parts, so you can easily find the right one at your local hardware store or home improvement store. If retailers are located a fair distance from your home, you can search the web and find the right part online.

So, the part has been purchased, and it's time to install it. To do this, remove the drain assembly and disconnect the drain pump. Then, carefully remove all the wiring, take the purchased part, and replace it. Return all the wiring and other components to their original positions, and then reassemble the Hotpoint Ariston washing machine.

At this point, the question of what to do if the drain isn't working is fully resolved. You can easily restore the appliance to working order at home using the instructions provided.
