Washing whites with aspirin
White items are the most easily soiled, so they need to be washed much more frequently than black or colored items. This can cause them to fade and turn gray. The question arises: how to wash them properly to ensure they always stay white? There's a secret, which we'll share in this article.
What is aspirin used for?
Our grandmothers didn't have such a wide selection of laundry detergents and detergents, yet their whites were always crisp and crisp. This is all because they knew many laundry secrets using the tools they had at hand. One such tool is aspirin, or acetylsalicylic acid, which is the same thing. This substance can be purchased at the pharmacy under one of the following names:
- Aspirin C;
- Upsarin UPSA;
- Acetylsalicylic acid;
- Aspirin Cardio and others.
Please note! Aspirin C tablets dissolve in water much better than acetylsalicylic acid tablets, despite their similar composition. Even in hot water, aspirin C dissolves poorly.
Therefore, for washing it is better to use Aspirin C tablets, pre-crushed into powder. When well-dissolved in water, it will perform better in terms of whitening properties, removing sweat stains and graying. This whitening solution is relatively inexpensive compared to specialized bleaches.
Instructions for use
To wash white items, prepare an aspirin solution. Take 10 aspirin tablets (325 mg each) and crush them into a powder so it dissolves better and faster in water. Then dissolve the aspirin powder in 15 liters of warm water. Place the items in this water and let them sit for 8 hours, or overnight.
After soaking, wash the laundry as usual, either in the washing machine or by hand. If you don't have time to soak the items, crush 2-3 aspirin tablets and add them directly to the washing machine with the laundry, then run the appropriate cycle. However, the best effect can only be achieved with soaking.
Other whitening methods
There are several other ways to bleach items. The bleaching method you choose will depend on the type of fabric the items are made from. To remove sweat stains from cotton T-shirts and shirts, you can use laundry soap. Lather the items and soak them in cold water for several hours. Then rinse and lather them again, soaking them in hot water for another hour. After soaking, wash the item as usual. Repeat the procedure if necessary.
You can bleach items with a hydrogen peroxide solution. To do this, dissolve 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide in 2 liters of water. Then add the solution to warm water, and soak the items for one hour. After soaking, wash and rinse the items.
Note! Instead of hydrogen peroxide, you can use a hydroperite tablet, first dissolving it in one liter of water.
Most often, bleach is used to wash white items. Just remember that chlorine bleach cannot be poured into the washing machine, so only hand wash with bleach. Modern bleaches are suitable for machine washing. Directions for use are indicated on the packaging.
When washing wool and silk items, avoid using chlorine bleach. Laundry soap is the best option. A second method involves using ammonia. You will need:
- 15 liters of water;
- 12 tablespoons of salt;
- 5 tablespoons of peroxide;
- 5 tablespoons of ammonia;
- washing powder.
All substances are thoroughly dissolved in water and silk and wool items are soaked for 30 minutes, after which they are washed as usual.
Important! Before bleaching, wash silk items in cold water first.
It's not always possible to soak and bleach items by hand. When you have a washing machine, you want to simplify this process as much as possible. Machine washing and bleaching has its secrets, which we discussed in the article. How to bleach laundry in a washing machine.
Finally, before washing white items, please read the care label carefully. You should know exactly what temperature the item can be washed at and whether it can be bleached. We hope the recipes described above will help you with your white laundry.

It's unclear what the point is in soaking and bleaching laundry if you're just going to machine wash it. It still turns it gray.
Soaking is necessary for the solution to penetrate deep into the fibers and time is needed for the chemical reaction.
The machine needs to be maintained and washed separately. And it needs to be sanitized from time to time—that is, cleaned of accumulated dirt and chemicals inside!
Before washing white items in the machine, you need to rinse the machine, especially if you washed colored items.
You can leave it for 15 hours
