The most common fabric used for transitional outerwear is bolognese. It's comfortable and practical, easy to wash, even in the washing machine. Moreover, this garment requires constant care, as it's worn between seasons. How do you properly wash a bolognese jacket? Should you choose a special cycle for outerwear, and what temperature should you set it to?
How to prepare the product?
Before washing a nylon jacket, it needs to be prepared. If there are any grease or other stains on the fabric, they should be removed. Use specialized products, which are available at any household cleaning store.
Before you apply the solution to the stain, test it on an inconspicuous area. This will prevent damage to the item. Apply a small amount of the solution to the fabric with a cotton pad. If there are no dye marks on the cotton pad and the color of the fabric hasn't changed, you can begin stain removal.
Before washing, remove any greasy residue. Laundry soap can help by rubbing the soiled areas. A fresh grease stain can easily be removed with table salt or dry mustard. It is best to clean white nylon fabrics with ammonia. Before washing a nylon jacket, remove any detachable parts. Then, fasten all zips and buttons. Once the outerwear is ready for washing, you can begin the actual washing process.
Automatic cleaning
Although nylon fabric is easy to wash, experienced homemakers know some secrets. The right washing cycle, temperature, and detergent will help preserve the fabric's appearance and condition. While jackets aren't as demanding when it comes to machine cleaning, certain nuances should still be considered.
Please note: To remove stains from nylon fabric, use a gentle wash cycle at low temperature.
Use a gel for rinsing; this will more effectively remove detergent residue from the fabric. It is not recommended to use high spin speeds, and sometimes it is better to avoid it altogether. Excess liquid will drain from the jacket when you hang it to dry.
Traditional cleaning
First, check the washing instructions on the care label. They usually advise against twisting or excessive wrinkling during the spin cycle. Otherwise, the jacket will develop creases and folds that are very difficult to remove, as ironing such fabric is prohibited.
How to wash in the usual way:
prepare a basin of water, the temperature should not be higher than 40 degrees;
add detergent to the container and dissolve it (it is better to use liquid);
place the bolognese jacket into the resulting solution;
leave the clothes to soak, the time depends on the degree of contamination (if it’s light, 15 minutes will be enough);
scrub dirty areas with a brush, paying special attention to the collar, pockets, and elbows;
If necessary, apply stain remover to these areas and repeat the cleaning procedure;
rinse the product.
After washing, rinse the jacket several times to remove any remaining detergent. Change the water after each rinse, and use a shower head for better rinsing. Direct a strong stream of water at the jacket and wait until the foam disappears.
How to get rid of moisture?
After washing in the washing machine or by hand, dry it properly. Garments without padding should be hung on hangers and placed in a drafty area. Avoid leaving the jacket in the sun.
Wet synthetic-filled clothing should be hung on hangers. Down jackets should only be dried flat. To do this, lay them flat on a sheet folded several times to absorb excess moisture.
