How to glue the drum of an Indesit washing machine?

How to glue the drum of an Indesit washing machineMany people believe that if they need to glue the drum of an Indesit washing machine, they have to cut it and glue it back together. But that's not true! The drum is made of metal. Therefore, once it's cut, the mechanism parts won't be able to be glued back together.

But this doesn't apply to the plastic tub. It can be sawed off to remove the old bearings and then install new ones. In this article, we'll describe in detail the entire procedure for gluing the two halves of a washing machine tub together.

What should the seam be?

After installing the new bearings, it's necessary to properly repair the plastic drum, which has been cut into two halves. Before doing this, you may have the following questions: how should I seal the drum to prevent leaks? Should I use glue or sealant? Glue is recommended. Only glued construction is reliable and durable.

To connect the parts, the halves of the drum must be joined using bolts and nuts. To achieve this, holes are drilled in the plastic along the entire seam. Glue or sealant can be used to fill the gap between the parts. It's important to choose the right adhesive for bonding the drum parts, taking into account the specific operation of the unit:

  • the connection must withstand heavy mechanical loads;
  • the unit operates in extreme temperature conditions: it constantly heats up and cools down;
  • The unit comes into contact with water, including liquid under pressure.

The last criterion is considered important. If the composition is unreliable, a leak will occur. Then, the Indesit washing machine will have to be disassembled again to fix the problem.

Selecting a bonding compound

Several types of adhesives and sealants can be used to assemble the drum. These compounds are resistant to the following conditions: extreme temperatures, vibration, high pressure, and contact with water. Let's take a closer look at them.

  1. Permatex 81730 is a flowable adhesive and sealant used for hermetically sealing car headlights and glass. It has a transparent formula. After curing, the joints are waterproof and easily withstand extreme temperatures. It can be used from -62°C to 232°C and performs perfectly in these applications. Its average price is $1.75.
  2. A highly elastic compound that withstands strong vibrations. It can be heated to 250°C. It is used to seal joints in electric motors. It allows you to firmly bond two parts of a product without using bolts. One tube is enough to bond four tanks. Price: $2.the best adhesives
  3. Glue F. Polyurethane adhesive. It requires no bolts. It's very strong, which can require re-cutting the drum. It's also expensive—around $7 for a 310 ml can.
  4. ABRO 11AB-R. An ultra-durable sealant, ready for use even in harsh conditions. It is resistant to high temperatures and aggressive chemicals. It costs about $3.50.
  5. AVS AVK-131. A durable and reliable compound that guarantees a strong connection at temperatures exceeding 2500°C. After using it, the tank can only be disassembled again by cutting it in half.

The main drawback of this latest product is its small packaging (6 ml). If you want to reliably seal the tank, you'll need to buy at least two packages. One costs $1.28.

Description of the gluing procedure

An important condition for performing this procedure is to properly prepare the part. Before cutting, it is necessary to make 30-40 small diameter holes across the seam.Then, they must be completely aligned during gluing. The joint of each part must first be degreased, then coated with the prepared compound, and the bolts tightened while the glue or sealant is still wet. The joint will dry completely in 2 hours.apply a thick layer of sealant

To increase the reliability of the adhesive joint and prevent it from leaking after a couple of months, bolts should be used. Let's describe the bolting process in more detail:

  • put the washer on the bolt;
  • insert the bolt into the hole;
  • put on the second washer;
  • tighten the nut.

Before cutting the tank, you need to correctly calculate the number of bolts, washers, and nuts. This requires taking into account the number of holes drilled in the plastic tank. It is recommended to use washers with narrow brim.
