How to lubricate washing machine shock absorbers?

How to lubricate washing machine shock absorbersRepairing a shock absorber system is a simple but expensive task. A new shock absorber is expensive, and the price tag doubles because they are always replaced in pairs. However, some DIYers have figured out how to avoid these costs and restore the shock absorbers by lubricating them with a special compound. We suggest finding out how to lubricate washing machine shock absorbers and extend their lifespan for several more years.

Characteristics of the substance

In theory, lubrication should solve the problem of the dampers wearing out. After treatment with a viscous compound, the friction force between the piston rod and the shock absorber head will be smoothed out, which will prevent drum swinging, imbalance, and other technical problems. But ordinary products like WD-40 or Solidol won’t help here – special mixtures are needed.

Lubricating the washing machine shock absorbers with WD-40 or Solidol is useless – it is necessary to create more viscous friction.

Finding the right lubricant is difficult because it's unclear where to find a professional product. Service centers and authorized retailers that supply washing machine components sell either a strut repair kit or the damper itself. The consultants there hadn't even heard of lubricants—we checked several large stores and came away empty-handed.You cannot use WD-40 or Solidol.

Examples of drugs

It turns out that shock absorber lubricants need to be looked for elsewhere. Lubricants used in cars, tape recorders, guns, and sports and camping equipment can provide the viscous friction needed by shock absorbers. We'll discuss the specific lubricants needed in this mini-review.

  • PMS-250,000 damping grease. Its primary purpose is to create viscous friction in components used to adjust the tension of tape recorders, tonearm lifters on turntables, and cassette mechanisms. It's also ideal for treating washing machine shock absorbers. It's sold in small bottles, but thanks to its economical use, each can lasts a long time. The product is colorless and odorless. It costs about $8 including shipping within Russia.
  • PMS-600000 damping grease is a more advanced version of PMS-250000. Its increased viscosity makes parts move completely smoothly, eliminates squeaks, and extends the life of contact areas. It is often used in households to treat tape recorders, door, and furniture mechanisms. It can also be used to lubricate the dampers of washing machines, such as those from LG or Samsung. Price: $12.suitable lubricant
  • Silicon-Fett silicone grease from LIQUI MOLY. This automotive product is used to treat all types of contact areas involving plastic or rubber, including joints, guides, and connectors. It's also used to lubricate seats, door hinges, rods, and washing machine components. It eliminates squeaks and protects against drying out and the damaging effects of direct sunlight. It adheres firmly to surfaces, repels moisture, easily withstands low and high temperatures, and extends the life of the device thanks to its anti-friction properties. It's available in 0.1L or 0.05L tubes and costs approximately $4.59–$10.09.

Waterproof and anti-friction silicone-based compounds are ideal for lubricating washing machine shock absorbers.

  • MS SPORT VMPAUTO silicone grease with fluoroplastic. It has water-repellent, dielectric, and antifriction properties. The formula is non-toxic, adheres firmly to parts, does not evaporate, and, thanks to its transparent consistency, does not stain or leave marks.Protects components and mechanisms from water, ultraviolet radiation, dirt, and salt, withstanding temperatures from -50 to +230 degrees. Suitable for treating freezer seals, ABS sensors, camping gear, industrial equipment, vehicles, air guns, sports equipment, and washing machines. Manufactured in Russia and sold in 400g jars. Average price: $9.03.

By treating your washing machine's shock absorbers with a special lubricant, you can protect them from premature wear and extend their lifespan. We've already told you where to find this miracle cure.

Please tell me, is it possible to lubricate CX-80 “Smar Silikonowy” with this silicone oil?
I couldn't find a PMS solution. LIQUI MOLY is too expensive. It's easier to replace the shock absorbers completely, but I don't want to drill holes. About six months ago, I replaced the shock absorbers, along with the polyurethane inserts, but the included grease apparently isn't working at all. The car started vibrating heavily again, intermittently. According to the description, CX-80 "Smar Silicone" seems to be the same as LIQUI MOLY. It has good viscosity and is much cheaper.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

You can use a piece of automotive vibration dampening material (similar to bitumen). If you can't get this layer to stick, try adding a little silicone (regular) grease.

I lubricated it with blue bearing grease.

Can I use a ShRB? It's viscous, stretchy, and prevents friction back and forth. Huh?
