How to lubricate the shock absorbers in an LG washing machine?
Repairing the shock absorbers on LG washing machines is quite expensive. Firstly, a new part is expensive, and secondly, purchasing one is even more expensive because the shock absorbers are always replaced in pairs. There's a rumored, less expensive, yet clever way to get the shock absorbers in good working order without replacing them. Supposedly, you can lubricate the shock absorbers of your LG washing machine with a special substance, which will ensure proper operation.
Will lubrication help?
Shock absorbers wear out because the head and piston rod constantly rub against each other, eventually wearing out completely. Lubrication can solve this problem by reducing friction. A viscous mixture will prevent technical problems associated with poor shock absorber performance, such as drum wobble, imbalance, and so on. But, unfortunately, regular lubricants like WD-40 won't work. Here you need to take care of a special composition.
Important! Why aren't Solidol or WD-40 suitable? It's simple: they're not thick enough. For shock absorber lubricant to work, it needs to be several times thicker.
Finding the right product can be problematic, as stores, service centers, and other outlets selling washing machine parts may only offer you a new part or push you into buying a complete shock absorber repair kit. If you ask a salesperson directly about lubricant, they'll likely shrug their shoulders in confusion. This applies even to large retailers.
Finding the Right Lubricant
The trick is that you don't have to look for washing machine shock absorber lubricant in places that specialize in washing machines. The required viscosity can be achieved, for example, by compounds used to service cars, camping and sports equipment, and even weapons. You're sure to find the right lubricant at a center or store; you just need to figure out which specific mixtures are right for you.
PMS-250000 mixture. A lubricant widely used in the music entertainment industry. It is used to lubricate tension control components in cassette mechanisms, tape decks, and turntable tonearms. The product can be purchased for around $8 from specialized online stores. Shipping within Russia is included in the price. It is a colorless, odorless product in a small bottle. Its economical use means it will last a long time.
PMS-600000 Lubricant. An improved version of the previous mixture with an even more viscous composition. Widely used in the home, not only for lubricating musical equipment, but also for door and gate mechanisms, and furniture. The product does an excellent job of reducing friction in contact areas, making movements absolutely smooth. It's also perfect as a lubricant for LG washing machine shock absorbers. It costs about $12.
Please note: Silicone compounds are hygroscopic (meaning water-resistant) and anti-friction, making them ideal for use as shock absorber lubricants.
Silicon-Fett is a silicone-based lubricant from LIQUI MOLY. Originally developed as a lubricant for automobile parts with rubber or plastic surfaces, it is now used in a wide variety of household applications, from lubricating door hinges to lubricating household appliance components. It withstands temperature fluctuations, protects friction points from drying out by repelling moisture, thereby extending the life of the product, and eliminates squeaking sounds in washing machines. Sold in 0.1- and 0.05-liter cans, it costs between $5 and $10.
MS SPORT VMP AUTO is a silicone-based adhesive with fluorinated polymers. It reduces the coefficient of friction of other materials, repels moisture, and acts as a dielectric. The mixture is non-toxic, transparent, and leaves no residue or odor. It is highly durable, bonds well to the application surface, and is evaporation-resistant. It withstands a wide temperature range from -50 to +230 degrees Celsius. It can be used on freezer seals, camping and sports equipment, vehicles, music equipment, industrial machinery, pneumatics, and washing machine shock absorbers. A 400-gram tube is available in Russia for approximately $9.
It's best not to wait until the shock absorbers fail, but to begin lubricating them periodically immediately after purchasing your washing machine. This will ensure the shock absorber system lasts a long time, protected from excessive friction and, consequently, wear.
