How to clean your washing machine hose yourself

washing machine drain hoseTo prevent or troubleshoot a malfunction, it's sometimes necessary to clean the drain hose in your automatic washing machine. It seems simple enough—just disconnect the hose and rinse it with water.

However, it's not that simple, because to remove it, you need to access the connection inside the machine. Here's a detailed look at how to do this and how to clean the drain hose.

Disconnect the hose

It would be simple if the hose in all washing machine models was disconnected in the same way, but this is not the case. Due to the design features of the housing and the method of mounting the drain pump, access to the drain hose will require different methods. But before you start doing this, you need to:

  1. Disconnect the machine from the electrical network.
  2. Close the water supply tap.
  3. Drain through drain filter remaining water.
  4. Disconnect the end of the drain hose from the trap or sewer pipe.washing machine drain hose

Now that we've got our screwdrivers and pliers ready, let's begin disassembling the washing machine. For Samsung, LG, Ariston, Whirpool, Indesit, Candy, Ardo, and Beko models, we'll access the hose through the bottom of the machine. To do this, we'll need:

  • Using a flat-head screwdriver, remove the bottom panel;
  • unscrew the bolts holding the filter;
  • For convenience, lay the washing machine on its side, placing something underneath it;
  • Using pliers, loosen the clamp and disconnect the drain hose from the pump;
  • Disconnect the hose from the washing machine body.

Please note! Some LG, Ardo, Beko, and other washing machine models may not have a bottom, while others have a special tray that must be removed.

  1. detach the drain hose from the housing by releasing the retaining latches;
  2. unscrew the water supply hose from the valve;
  3. From the back of the machine, unscrew the bolts holding the top cover of the housing and remove it;
  4. unscrew the bolts holding the back cover around the perimeter and remove the cover;
  5. loosen the clamp on the drain hose and remove it.

In German-brand Bosch, Siemens, and AEG washing machines, the drain hose must be accessed through the front of the machine. Here's how:

  • remove the clamp and sealing rubber from the front part of the housing;
  • remove the detergent drawer from the washing machine;
  • remove the bottom panel of the case;
  • unscrew the bolts located under the panel;
  • remove the hatch door lock;
  • remove the front cover of the case;
  • loosen the clamp on the drain hose;
  • pull out the hose.disassembling a washing machine

All of the above methods for accessing the drain hose inside the washing machine body apply to front-loading models. If the machine has a top loading, then the drain hose can only be disconnected from the pump through the side panel. To do this you need:

  1. unscrew the bolts holding the side panel;
  2. remove the panel;
  3. loosen the clamp on the drain hose;
  4. pull out the hose.

Cleaning the drain hose

To clean the drain hose you need to take a thin Kevlar cable, It's not metal. The end of this type of cable has a small brush that can be used to clean soap scum from inside the hose. To carefully clean the drain hose, follow these steps:

For a greater cleaning effect, you can run a test wash cycle with water heating up to 600By adding citric acid or Anti-scale product, this will help clean the machine from scale.

Causes of clogging and preventive measures

drain hoseClogged washing machine drain hoses are usually caused by natural causes. Mechanical clogging is uncommon, as foreign objects (buttons, pins, coins) won't get into the drain hose; they'll be caught in the drain filter or pump. Clogging of the drainage hose occurs naturally during operation. Soapy water, possibly small lint, hair, and threads, settles in it. To avoid this, it is recommended:

  • Wash items in a laundry bag;
  • Use water softeners;
  • Conduct preventive measures descaling the washing machine;
  • Use only powders that are intended for automatic washing;
  • Check clothing pockets before washing for small items (seeds, pieces of paper, etc.).

So, you can clear a clogged drain hose in your LG, Bosch, or any other washing machine yourself. Just follow the instructions. You can take photos of your work during the repair process to avoid confusion when reassembling the machine. Happy repairing!
