Dishwasher cord length

Dishwasher cord lengthManufacturers typically don't consider user convenience, focusing solely on saving materials. As a result, dishwasher power cords are often too short. This often leaves consumers frustrated, as after purchasing their new dishwasher, they discover the cord simply doesn't reach the nearest outlet. Installing the new appliance near an outlet may also be impossible, forcing them to spend time and effort replacing the cord. It's much better to research the cord lengths of the most popular dishwashers in advance and choose the one that's right for your home.

Let's measure the power cords of dishwashers

Dishwasher cords vary greatly in length, but cannot be longer than a certain length. This is because there is a rule that a standard dishwasher cord cannot be longer than 1.7 meters. It can be shorter; for example, built-in dishwashers typically have 1.2-meter power cords. Freestanding units are often equipped with longer cords—1.5 and 1.7 meters. Ultimately, it all depends on the dishwasher type, series, and brand.

  • The Gorenje GV62040 built-in full-size dishwasher, which can wash 13 place settings simultaneously, has a very short cord – just 1.2 meters.
  • The narrow, fully integrated Korting KDI 45570 dishwasher, designed for 10 place settings, comes with a 1.3 metre long cord.
  • The compact, tabletop Weissgauff TDW 4006 dishwasher, capable of simultaneously cleaning 6 place settings, is equipped with a 1.5-meter cord.Weissgauff TDW 4006
  • Finally, the narrow, freestanding Hansa ZWM416WH 9-place setting dishwasher also gives the user the freedom to choose its installation location – its cord is 1.5 meters long.

Typically, only manufacturers of freestanding units can provide a suitable cable length. However, even 1.5 meters may not be sufficient if the nearest available outlet is 2-3 meters away.

If the cord is not long enough, experts advise against using extension cords under any circumstances, as this is extremely dangerous due to the high load on the dishwasher.

If the standard cord isn't long enough, it's much better to replace it with a longer one. Any service center technician will be happy to perform this work for you, but if that's not possible, you can replace the component yourself. However, in this case, you will have to forget about the dishwasher's warranty, because if you replace the cord yourself, the warranty will be voided.

How to replace the cord yourself?

Replacing a dishwasher's cord isn't the most labor-intensive procedure, but even this requires an hour of free time and a full set of necessary tools. Purchase a power cord of the appropriate length, making sure it can handle the load your dishwasher model generates. Then, gather some electrical tape, a screwdriver, and a utility knife, and get started.

  • First, make sure the machine is powered off, the water supply is turned off, and all hoses are disconnected.power cord
  • Turn the device over and find the place where the cord is installed.
  • Unscrew the bolts that hold the service hatch and open it.
  • Loosen the screw fastening of the interference filter, then move it aside and lift it up.
  • Squeeze the inner clips of the plastic retainer and push it out.
  • Now we move the cord and then push it inside, which will give free access to the filter.
  • At this stage, you can detach the protective cover and disconnect the wire contacts.

Be sure to take a few photos of the contact connections so that you can reconnect the cable correctly later.

  • We disconnect the contacts, among which the green ones are ground, the black or brown ones are phase, and the blue or light blue ones are “neutral”.
  • The final step is to loosen the clamp and release the wire from the appliance.

Installation of the extended power cord is carried out according to the same instructions in reverse order.
