The dishwasher door won't close.
A dishwasher malfunction can occur at the most inopportune moment. For example, when you're loading the machine with dishes and detergent, the door suddenly won't close or doesn't close properly, leaving a large gap through which water leaks. What should you do in this situation?
Causes of malfunction
First, you need to determine why the dishwasher door isn't closing properly or isn't closing at all. To do this, unplug the dishwasher and inspect it to determine the cause.
- If the sealing rubber is deformed, the door will not close tightly.
- Check if the dish container is installed correctly, perhaps the door does not close because the container needs to be installed correctly.
- Check that the dishwasher is level; the door may be catching on something due to the machine's tilt, causing it to not close.
- Inspect the lock; if it is deformed, it needs to be repaired or replaced.
Installation and repair of locks
You can easily replace your dishwasher's door lock yourself. Before you begin, make sure you purchase the original part for your dishwasher model. Let's look at the replacement procedure using a Bosch dishwasher as an example:
- Installation begins with opening the machine door and unscrewing the bolts around the perimeter that hold the front panel in place.
Be careful to hold the door panel with your hands so that it does not fall and pull the wires with it.
- Take a photo of the location of the wires on the lock and disconnect them.
- Next, on the top of the door, you need to unscrew the two cross bolts that hold the lock.
- Take a new lock and screw it in place of the old one.
- Connect the wires and reassemble the door. The new lock installation is complete.
In some cases, you may not need to buy a new lock, but rather repair the old one. It is common for the plastic lock on dishwashers to have the retaining tabs break off. These are the ones that can be restored. To do this, you will need:
- a metal plate 0.5 mm thick and 4 mm wide;
- file;
- drill;
- two small self-tapping screws;
- a little patience.
Use a file to sharpen the jagged edges of the broken antennae. Bend the tin into a bracket as shown in the photo.

Next, use a drill to make 1.5 mm diameter holes on the sides of the metal plate. Drill 1 mm diameter holes on the sides of the lock, aligning them with the holes in the plate. Connect the plate and the lock with small screws. Now you can install the lock in the door.

We change the sealing rubber
Installing the rubber seal located around the dishwasher door is even easier. Let's look at replacing the rubber seal using a Zanussi dishwasher as an example.
- First, you need to tear off the old rubber band with your hands.
- Next, take the rubber band for your dishwasher, which can be purchased at a specialized spare parts store.
- Now you need to insert the new rubber band in place of the old one so that it fits tightly into the groove, gradually moving along the perimeter of the body.
- If the rubber band If it turns out to be too long, you need to cut off the excess with scissors.
What to do if the door does not lock
Very often, having bought a new one built-in dishwasherUsers complain that the door is very difficult to open and doesn't stay open. However, this isn't a reason to panic. In fact, the door will only open properly after it's installed and secured to the front door.
In addition, the machines have adjustable spring tension. In some dishwasher models, such as Samsung, the adjustment bolts are located on the top. There are dishwashers, such as Bosch, that have adjustment bolts located on the sides of the door at the bottom of the dishwasher.
Please note! The tighter the bolts, the more force is required to open the door. Typically, this force ranges from 2.5 to 8.5 kg.

So, a dishwasher door may not close for a number of reasons, one of which is improper installation of the built-in dishwasher. In most cases, this problem can be fixed at home. Be patient and follow the instructions.
