Error E9 in a Samsung washing machine

Samsung error code E9Thanks to the Samsung washing machine's self-diagnostic system, repair time can be reduced in the event of a breakdown. An error message appears on the machine's display, alerting the user to the problem. It's important to know what the code means and the possible causes. Let's take a closer look at the E9 error code in Samsung washing machines.

Decoding the code

Error E9 is typical for Samsung washing machines manufactured before 2007. Accordingly, the service life of these appliances is currently 8-10 years, so it's no surprise that users have begun to contact service centers more frequently with this problem.

What does the E9 code mean? This code indicates that the machine has a water leak from the tank into the drip tray. If the pressure switch detects a drop in water in the tank four times, the machine will stop working, and the E9 code will appear on the display.

Please note that in modern Samsung washing machine models, the L9 code is stored in the program memory instead of the E9 code. These codes are identical.

However, in newer machines, not only the pressure switch but also the Aqua Stop sensor installed in the tray detects water leaks. These error codes can appear during any wash cycle. But most often, the error appears almost immediately after turning on the program, or when water is first collected.

Older washing machines don't have a display, so they alert you to a malfunction by flashing indicators. All wash cycle lights flash when there's a water leak, but the Bio Wash 60 indicator lights do.0C and cold water burn.

Causes of occurrence

There are various possible causes for the E9 or L9 error. Some problems can be resolved on your own, while others require the help of experienced professionals. First, check the following:

  • Check the drain hose connection to the sewer for leaks and the hose itself for any breaks; if draining into a bathtub or toilet, check to see if the hose is broken or leaking;
  • correct connection of the drain hose to the sewer pipe, if the level of the hose is disturbed, then the water will spontaneously flow out of the tank;
  • the tightness of the drain filter installation, if you removed it the day before for cleaning;
  • Check to see if water is leaking from the powder tray. If the holes for filling the water into the tray are clogged, then the water will not flow into the tank and will flow out;
  • After the external inspection, move on to inspecting the "insides" of the washing machine, check the pipe from the tank to the pump and from the powder receptacle to the tank, it may be necessary to replace the clamps that hold the pipes;
  • Check the contacts of the electrical wires going to the water level sensor and to the Aqua Stop.

If you encounter the E9 error in your Samsung or any other washing machine, you can try resetting it, or, so to speak, resetting the program. It's possible that some malfunction caused the error. You can reset it by unplugging the machine for a few minutes.

More serious reasons are caused by a breakdown or malfunction of a part, in this case, these are:

  • Aquastop sensor;
  • rubber cuff;
  • hose and pipes;
  • pressure switch;
  • electrical wiring and electronic module.

Changing sensors

First, let's describe replacing the Aquastop sensor, also known as a microswitch with a float. It's located, as we've already noted, in the washing machine's tray. Therefore, to replace it, you need to disconnect the appliance from the power supply, move it to a convenient location, and lay it on its side. Then, proceed as follows:

  1. unscrew the pan;
  2. carefully remove the pan from the car, do not pull it sharply so as not to tear off the wires coming from the sensor;
  3. disconnect the connectors with wires;
  4. we disconnect the latches and pull out the sensor;
  5. We put a new part in place of the faulty one.

Aquastop sensor

The water level sensor, also known as the pressure switch, is located at the top of the washing machine. You can also replace it yourself, which takes about 20 minutes. To do this, unplug the machine, turn off the water supply, and then follow these instructions:

  • After unscrewing the rear bolts, remove the top cover of the housing;
  • in the upper corner of the machine you will find a part as in the photo below;
  • disconnect the connector with wires;
  • loosen the clamp and remove the air supply tube;
    pressure switch tube

    Important! Check the air duct; it could be the problem. Often, the tube breaks at the base of the pressure switch, preventing the sensor from accurately measuring the water level. Replacing the tube should solve the problem.

  • An original new part is installed in place of the faulty pressure switch.

Replacing the cuff and pipes

Replacing the seal in a washing machine of any brand is more labor-intensive than replacing the sensors. After all, removing and installing the seal requires disassembling the machine body. Some skilled technicians can replace the seal on a Samsung washing machine by simply removing the top cover, but first-timers may struggle with this "trick."

We described in detail how to disassemble the washing machine and replace the rubber band in the article. How to change the cuff in a washing machine, so we decided not to repeat ourselves.

As for the hose, the one that most often breaks is the one connecting the pump to the tank. This part is replaced through the bottom. It's either missing or easily removed. The hose is held in place by clamps, which will also need to be replaced.

What to do with the electronic module

The electronic module is not only the most expensive part of the washing machine, but also requires specialized knowledge during installation and especially during repair. If the processor on the control board is not burned out, then it can be repaired. Otherwise, the board will need to be completely replaced.

When replacing an electronic module, there's a tricky part: firmware. Some boards don't have the software installed. To install it, you first need to find it and then carry it out correctly. For this reason, we recommend contacting specialists and not taking on the responsibility yourself. After learning the cost of the part and repair, you might even consider buying a new machine, as everything will be quite expensive.

Thus, there are many possible causes for the E9 error. Most of them require washing machine repair and disassembly skills. We hope this article helps you determine the appropriate course of action in this situation. Good luck!
