Eco-friendly cleaning of the drum in a Samsung washing machine
To avoid premature failure of your Samsung washing machine, it's essential to keep it in good condition. This applies not only to its appearance but also to the condition of its internal components. A washing machine is an indispensable part of any home, and every user strives to extend its lifespan as long as possible. That's why Samsung has developed an innovative feature called Eco Drum Clean. Read below to learn how to use this program correctly and when to use it.
How does the function work?
This program self-cleans the drum of various contaminants and mold. A clean drum prevents further contamination of other internal components, which naturally extends the life of your washing machine, helps avoid minor repairs, and so on.
Before activating the function, make sure there is no laundry in the drum. Foreign objects present during the function may damage parts of your Samsung washing machine. Furthermore, if laundry is left in the machine during the cleaning process, it will be severely damaged.
Additionally, avoid using chemical cleaning agents. When combined with water, they will inevitably leave a chemical residue in the drum, which will interfere with proper washing.
How do I know if cleaning is needed?
Sometimes it can be difficult to determine whether your washing machine needs a drum clean. Samsung has developed a special notification feature that will automatically alert you to run the appropriate program.
How does it work? If the drum needs cleaning after washing, a distinctive image will appear on the electronic display—a drum with a glowing star in the corner. The light opposite the “Eco cleaning” inscription on the mode switch will light up.
How to start the cleaning process is described in the next section. However, if you decide not to do this for any reason, all indicators will go out and the alert will only sound again after two more washes.
Don't panic if you can't clean the drum the first time (as soon as the notification appears). You can do it later. This is just a signal that the drum is slightly dirty, not an indication of serious problems with the machine. Typically, the notification is triggered once a month, but this is only an approximate frequency. Everything depends on how often and how actively you use your washing machine.
Also, when the alert is turned on, clean the debris filter, otherwise the Eco cleaning program will not work effectively enough.
How to run a function?
Once you've verified that everything is in order and you're ready to clean the drum, follow these steps:
- First, turn on the machine itself. For a Samsung washing machine, press the "Power" button;
- using the “Mode switch” wheel, select the Eco cleaning mode, this is the division on the far right;
- When using this function, you do not need to select the temperature, as the program will do it automatically; the drum is cleaned at 70 degrees;
- To activate the mode, start it by pressing the "Start/Pause" button.
Using the Eco Wash mode is simple. Just follow safety precautions and set the correct parameters. Then, just wait for the program to do its job.
Chemicals for interior cleaning
For more effective drum cleaning, you can clean the drum yourself using specialized chemicals. However, when choosing these, it's important to remember that they must be completely safe for you and not have a harmful effect on the machine's components. Most importantly, they must be effective in removing limescale, mold, and dirt.
Manufacturers of washing machine detergents create their products taking into account the specific design of the machine, so we recommend you take a closer look at the products we've already recommended. First of all, when choosing one of them, study whether it is intended for complex cleaning or for interaction with a specific part. A formula that's effective for one device shouldn't harm another. Here are the main market leaders.
- Topperr 3004 is a German product designed to remove various levels of limescale. Bosch recommends this chemical for both washing machines and dishwashers.
- Schnell Entkalker. This is also a German-made product, but it comes in powder form in 200-gram packets. It's not designed for limescale removal, but rather for removing various levels of limescale deposits from the internal components of a washing machine.
- Antikalk for Washing Machines by Sano is a gel-based antibacterial product. It's made in Israel and isn't designed to remove any serious stains. It's intended for preventative maintenance and cleaning the drum of light deposits.
- Magic Power. This German gel/powder is designed to clean not only the drum, but also the heating element and tank. It also removes limescale.
- This product is for comprehensive care of your machine's parts; it's not designed to remove heavy stains. It can be used as a descaler and to eliminate unpleasant odors caused by scale.
- Filtero 601. This German-made product is available in 200-gram sachets for single use. Designed for very intensive cleaning, which should be carried out once a quarter. Removes scale from heating elements and other machine parts.
- Doctor TEN and Antinakipin are products produced by Russian and Belarusian manufacturers. They are relatively affordable options for descaling. However, they are suitable for absolutely any surface and appliance, not just washing machines or dishwashers.
In addition to the above, there are also products designed to prevent scale buildup. For example, Calgon. It won't remove limescale from your machine's parts, but will simply reduce the concentration of salts in the water. It's easy to distinguish these products from cleaning products. They are typically added to the detergent compartment before washing or directly to the drum, as they won't cause any damage to your laundry. Keeping your Samsung washing machine clean is easy! Manufacturers do everything possible to extend the life of your "home helper"!

For various stains and mold! But not for scale on the heating element. The manufacturer also states that cleaning products should not be used during cleaning. In this case, at 70 degrees Celsius, without detergent, a significant amount of scale will form on the heating element in two hours with hard water. But if you have distilled tap water, this function is for you...
