What is Eco-drying in an LG washing machine?
Many LG washing machines now not only wash but also dry clothes. Furthermore, just like washing programs, there are multiple drying programs, allowing each homeowner to choose the one that best suits their taste and the characteristics of the fabric. However, some modes have unusual names. For example, what is the eco-drying mode in an LG washing machine and what is it used for? Let's find out.
Description of the Eco-drying program
Eco-Drying is the name given by LG washing machines to a mode where you can set the drying time yourself. For example, other programs, such as "Low Temperature" or "Cupboard Dry," don't allow you to adjust the drying time. With Eco-Drying, you can choose from several time ranges, but this will affect the maximum load capacity of the drum. This is because if you load too much laundry and give the machine too little time, the laundry won't dry completely. Available time ranges are:
- 30 minutes with a drum load of 0.5 kg;
- 60 minutes with a load of 1.5 kg;
- 90 minutes with a load of 2.5 kg;
- 120 minutes with a load of 3 kg;
- 150 minutes with a load of 4 kg.

Now let's figure out which items can be tumble dried and which absolutely cannot. Woolen items should never be machine dried; they should be laid out flat and allowed to dry naturally. Also, items containing plastic and/or rubber (tablecloths, chair covers), as well as fiberglass, should not be machine dried.
Caution! If you dry fiberglass in the washing machine, particles will remain in the drum and will stick to other clothes during subsequent washes, causing irritation and itching.
All other materials can be dried automatically, but only in strict accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. For example, after drying synthetic items, they should be removed from the drum immediately, without allowing them to cool, to avoid a large number of creases. Some knitted or woven items shrink significantly, so after drying they should be immediately stretched by hand to their original size.
Arsenal of drying programs
Different washing machine models have different sets of drying programs. Some machines have only one, while others offer a choice of 3, 4, or even 5 modes. Generally, we can distinguish several program names and their characteristics.
- Intensive Drying/Drying. This mode is very aggressive and may even overdry your clothes.
- For easy ironing. In some models, this mode is called "Iron Dry." It gently dries almost dry cotton or linen items, ready for ironing. This mode is not suitable for damp items. The drum moisture level in this program is 15%.
- Cupboard drying. The most versatile drying option, with a drum moisture level no higher than 3%. Suitable for drying linen, cotton, and blended fabrics, especially those used in everyday wear (shirts, underwear, nightgowns, pajamas, etc.).
- Low Temperature or Gentle Drying. This is a gentle drying cycle for items requiring special care. This typically includes synthetics or textiles. If you're washing items on delicate mode, then drying on this program is suitable for such laundry.

While not every home currently has a machine with even a basic drying function, manufacturers are already improving existing dryers and recently added hot and cold drying options to some models. Cold is less aggressive and better suited for items requiring gentle care. Durable and rough natural fabrics can be dried using the hot setting.
If the weight of the items being washed does not exceed the maximum dryer capacity, manufacturers recommend using a continuous wash and dry cycle.
As mentioned above, LG washing machines offer express drying. If the drum contains only a few items, the machine will dry them completely in half an hour.
Avoid using intensive or express drying frequently, as they can be detrimental to clothing if overused. This can cause the fibers to weaken faster, and the garment to wear out. Whenever possible, choose the "Easy Iron" cycle or another gentle setting, which is gentler on the fabric.
