Washing machine water filters

Washing machine water filtersThe modern home appliance market offers a wide range of washing machine models from various manufacturers. They are in high demand, as washing machines are the easiest and most convenient way to wash dirty laundry. And despite the constant improvements made by their creators, these machines remain vulnerable to various external and internal factors.

Hard water containing various impurities entering the machine from the water supply can reduce the washing quality and cause malfunctions. One of the most common washing machine malfunctions in our country is a failed heating element. This component is responsible for heating the water to the required temperature for washing clothes. However, when using the low-quality water found in water pipes in most Russian cities, the insides of the machine become coated with scale.

This is precisely why the heating element breaks down. To avoid this, you can use a water filter. It can be used throughout the entire apartment to ensure all water used in your home is purified. Alternatively, you can use a filter just for your washing machine. In this case, you'll need to install it on a separate pipe leading only to the machine, or use special filters designed specifically for washing machines and dishwashers with poor water quality.

Types

One of the cheapest types of coarse liquid filters is a polyphosphate filter. It's also called a salt filter. It's best to install it only on the machine itself, rather than on all the water pipes. It works as follows:

  1. Water passes through the filter.
  2. Sodium polyphosphate crystals gradually dissolve when exposed to liquid.
  3. A certain chemical reaction occurs.
  4. The internal parts of the washing machine that come into contact with water are covered with a film that protects them from scale.

There are also other types of filters. For example, magnetic water filters for washing machines. They are considered more environmentally friendly than the type of filter described above. They also have a longer service life and a good efficiency margin. You can use this type of filter not only for your washing machine but also for all water pipes in your apartment or country house.

How does it work? A magnetic field acts on the water passing through it. This field helps dissolve certain chemical elements, specifically those that make water hard and, therefore, directly contribute to scale formation when the heating element heats up. Thus, water purified by the magnetic filter becomes softer. By the way, it is believed that softer water requires less detergent for washing. This means that by using a filter like this, you'll not only protect your washing machine from heating element damage, but you'll also save a little on washing powder.

Integrated water purification filters are also available. After treatment with such a filter, you can drink the water immediately. However, they are quite expensive. We don't recommend using them exclusively for drinking water.

Installation

Installing a washing machine water filterYou can install the washing machine filter yourself. You don't need any complicated tools—a regular wrench will do the trick. A special filter for washing machines is installed in front of the inlet hose. If you already have a washing machine installed, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the water supply by turning the tap to the required position.
  2. Unscrew the inlet hose from the branch pipe to which it is attached.
  3. Screw a water purification filter in its place.
  4. Screw the inlet hose onto the filter.
  5. That's it. Washable!

The filter uses a standard thread that fits three-quarter-inch pipes. The same thread is used on the washing machine hose, so there shouldn't be any problems. If, despite the simplicity of the process, you don't want to do it yourself, consult a plumber. This job shouldn't be expensive, as it's simple and only takes five minutes. The quality of water purification will depend on the quality of the filter you purchase and the degree of contamination of the tap water entering your apartment.

The door of the LG WD 80154N washing machine does not close; an iron part in the cuff has rusted and is sticking out of it.
