Where is the pump located in the washing machine?
Removing the pump from the housing is easy. The main thing is to know where the drain pump is located in the washing machine and how to remove it correctly. All the necessary tips and instructions for removal are provided below.
Pump removal methods
In most modern washing machine models, the pumps are located in the same parts of the housing. However, they are removed in different ways. This is due to design differences between machines produced by different manufacturers.
In Ardo, Samsung, Indesit, LG, and Beko appliances, drain pumps are removed through the bottom of the housing. Owners of these brands of appliances can use the following instructions to remove the pump:
- disconnect the washing machine from the sewer system, water supply and electrical network;
- Take a flat-head screwdriver and use it to open the access hatch located in the lower right side of the case;
- To prevent water from spilling, place a container and a rag under the appliance. When the drain filter opens, water flows out;

- Remove the debris filter. To do this, unscrew the bolt and turn the handle slightly;
- Look through the bottom of the housing to see inside. If the pump is not visible, it's best to lay the washing machine on its left side;
- unscrew the screws holding the drain pump;
- Turn the pump counterclockwise until it's recessed into the machine body. The device should come off;
- disconnect the wires, remove the pipes, loosen the clamps.
After these manipulations, the pump can be easily removed.
Important! Do not place the device on its right side. Doing so will cause residual water from the pipes and tank to flood the electronics. This could damage the device.
Why remove the pump?
Experts say the drain pump is the heart of a washing machine. Without it, water circulation is impossible. But, like the heart, the unit is susceptible to damage. This is usually caused by dirt entering the machine along with the wastewater. Therefore, to ensure the smooth operation of the machine, the pump must be cleaned regularly. The following can lead to a clogged drain pump:
- use of low-quality detergents;
- the influx of dirty or too hard water;
- getting small pieces of clothing, hair, coins in.
To prevent the pump from clogging, simply removing forgotten items from pockets and sewing on buttons is not enough. It is recommended to place items in special laundry bags when washing. It is also important to remove and clean the debris filter regularly.
Proper cleaning of the pump
Knowing where the pump is located allows you to clean the unit yourself. You need to remove any debris from the impeller. To do this correctly, follow these steps.
- Unscrew the screws on the sides using a slotted screwdriver.
- Find the ring with the blades. Remove any hair, threads, or other debris from it.
- Check that the part rotates freely.

- Proceed to cleaning the pump seat, which is called the snail. This should also be cleaned.
- Remove all debris and wipe the snail clean of scale.
- Assemble the pump and install it.
Please note! After cleaning and installing the drain pump, perform a test wash. This will ensure there are no leaks and that the unit is working properly.
If the pump is installed properly, the washing machine should not make any unusual noises or pause during operation. Regular maintenance of the drain pump and removal of dirt and debris from it and surrounding components can significantly extend the life of the machine.
