Cooking in the dishwasher
If you thought a dishwasher was only for washing dishes, you were very wrong. People have long understood that it's a multifunctional appliance that can be used for washing vegetables, children's toys, and more. But cooking in a dishwasher is a relatively recent development. How do they do it, and what dishwasher-friendly recipes exist? Let's take a look.
Why do this?
Europeans have been using dishwashers for much longer than Russians, so they've noticed that dishes get very hot during washing. If you use the intensive cycle and wash at 70°C,0C, the dishes become so hot that they sometimes even burst. This is why the manufacturer does not recommend using intensive settings for washing fragile dishes or those made from materials sensitive to high temperatures.
Some bright minds realized that a dishwasher on high power operates almost like a steam oven, meaning you could try cooking while the dirty dishes were being washed right there in the racks. Experiments began, revealing the benefits of cooking in a dishwasher.
- Cooking while the dishwasher is washing dishes is beneficial because it saves energy.
- Food that is simmered at a temperature below 1000C, retains maximum vitamins and microelements. Its consumption is beneficial for health.
- Cooking in a dishwasher saves the housewife's time, since the entire process occurs automatically.
Of course, it's not recommended to cook all foods at a low enough temperature. This is especially true for meat. Large pieces won't cook this way, but finely chopped fillets or ground meat are perfectly fine. Chicken also cooks well in the dishwasher, but not the whole carcass, but the breast or legs. Fish and vegetables cut into small slices cook well.
Some European housewives even managed to bake apple pies in the dishwasher.
Cooking in a dishwasher should be done with basic safety precautions. First and foremost, remember to wash dishes with dishwashing liquid and rinse aid, and never allow water containing chemicals to come into contact with food. To avoid this, food should be stored in special, airtight, heat-resistant glass jars or special heat-resistant containers. If water does come into contact with food, do not eat it.
New potatoes with herbs
We decided to start with a simple summer recipe that's familiar to everyone, but not everyone has tried it in the dishwasher. To prepare new potatoes with greens, you'll need: 1 kg of medium-sized new potatoes, a small bunch of dill, parsley, and green onions, a small onion, salt, pepper, and a sprig of thyme. We begin cooking, surprisingly enough, by loading the dirty dishes into the dishwasher. Leave some room in the top rack for the food container and begin cooking.
- You can peel the young potatoes or not, depending on your preference.
- We cut it into slices, put it in a bowl and add salt.
- Finely chop the herbs and onions, and then add it all to the potatoes.
- Mix the ingredients, add a little pepper and place it all in an airtight container.
- Finally, add a sprig of thyme and close the container as tightly as possible.
Thyme, like onions, is not necessary to add; it’s a matter of taste.
- Place the container in the basket, close the dishwasher and set the “Intensive wash” program.
When the program is finished, carefully remove the jar, open it, and divide the contents among plates. Delicious new potatoes stewed in the dishwasher are ready.
Lazy cabbage rolls
The second recipe is also simple, but it uses ground meat. You'll see for yourself that even meat can be cooked in the dishwasher. Just like with new potatoes, load the dishwasher with dirty dishes, leaving room in the top rack for the container you'll be cooking in. Take half a kilo of ground meat, 300 grams of Chinese cabbage and a few leaves of white cabbage, 100 grams of rice, a small onion, a small carrot, 1 egg, salt, and pepper.
- First, cook the rice in a saucepan on the stove. This will take about 10 minutes.
- Finely chop the onion, grate the carrots and combine the vegetables with the minced meat.
- Add salt, pepper and chicken egg to the minced meat and mix everything.
- Finely chop the Chinese cabbage and add it to the minced meat.
- Mix everything very well and roll the mixture into even balls the size of an average chicken egg.
- Place the cabbage rolls in layers in a jar, placing a cabbage leaf between each layer to prevent them from sticking together during cooking.
- Close the jar tightly and put it in the dishwasher.
- We start the wash at 700For three hours. The cabbage rolls will be perfectly cooked in 2.5-3 hours.
Stewed pollock
Today's final recipe involves cooking an inexpensive, yet delicious and healthy fish – pollock. Prepare the dishwasher, leaving room in the top rack for a jar of food. Lay out the following ingredients: 300 g of coarsely chopped pollock, 1 tablespoon of olive or sunflower oil, half a lemon, salt, pepper, and 2 bay leaves.
- We wash and clean the fish.
- Salt the pollock pieces, pepper them and sprinkle with lemon juice.
- Place the fish pieces in a jar and pour vegetable oil over them.
- Let the fish stand in the refrigerator for 30-40 minutes.
- Next, put the bay leaf in the jar, carefully seal the container with the fish and put it in the dishwasher.
- We start an intensive wash and wait until it is finished before removing the freshly prepared fish and serving it.
It turns out that you can cook a wide variety of foods in a dishwasher. It's especially interesting cooking fish in the dishwasherAnd it's not just boiled; it preserves all the nutrients beneficial to the human body. This isn't something you'd cook every day, of course, but you can experiment, especially if you're as inquisitive as a European. Good luck!
