Error H2 on a Samsung washing machine

Samsung H2 errorIf the error code H2 appears on your Samsung washing machine's display a few minutes after starting the cycle, it's time to consider repairs. This error is a clear indication of a malfunction. What to do in this situation and whether it's worth calling a repairman—that's what we'll discuss.

Decoding the error

The H2 error code appears quite frequently in Samsung washing machines. This message means that water cannot be heated due to a heating system failure. Despite the advertising praise for the ceramic heaters in this brand's machines, the fact remains: they are not very good. In fact, they are a weak point of Samsung washing machines.

So, error H2 appears on the display if the water in the drum doesn't heat up more than 2 degrees within ten minutes. This can happen for various reasons:

  • the heating element has burned out, which is what most often happens when this error appears;
  • the temperature sensor is faulty;
  • the wires between the heating element and the control module are faulty;
  • failure of the electronic module.

If the washing machine doesn't have a display, the user is alerted to a malfunction via indicators on the control panel. If the water isn't heating, all lights will flash except the 40°C temperature indicator.0C and 600C, or temperatures of 600With cold water, these pairs of indicators will be lit rather than flashing.

H2 and 2H – is there a difference?

Users often confuse the error code h2 with the informational message 2h. In fact, they are not the same thing. If in the first case this is a serious malfunction, then in the second case it is just a display of the remaining program time. The English letter h means hours, so 2h means two hours.

Importantly, when the h2 error code appears, the machine may stop working completely and the wash cycle will not begin. However, some washing machine models run the wash cycle in cold water. This can be easily determined by touching the door glass with your hand; when the water heats up, it should be lukewarm. As for the 2h error code, the machine is operating as expected, and there are no malfunctions.

Replacing the heating element and temperature sensor

Heating element in a Samsung washing machine The battery is pulled out through the front panel. This complicates the process of replacing the part; you'll have to disassemble almost the entire machine. Before you do that, prepare a couple of screwdrivers and a multimeter. Then follow these steps:

  1. remove the powder container from the machine and unscrew the drainage filter;
  2. unscrew the top cover and temporarily put it aside;
  3. We unscrew the screws that hold the front panel of the washing machine and carefully remove it and place it on top of the machine so that it does not get in the way;
  4. Using a flat-head screwdriver, remove the bottom plastic panel;
  5. Now you need to insert the rubber cuff into the drum, first removing the metal clamp on the cuff;
  6. We find screws along the perimeter of the front part of the case and unscrew them;
  7. remove the panel;

  8. Below the tank, next to the counterweight, we find the heating element contacts and use a multimeter to measure the resistance to make sure the part has burned out;

    ! The working heating element has a resistance of 25-30 ohms; a burnt-out one will show 0 or 1 on the display.

  9. now we disconnect the contacts from the heater and unscrew the central bolt;

  10. Using rocking movements, try to remove the heating element. If the part does not give in, spray the base with WD-40 liquid and leave it for a few minutes;
  11. Before installing a new part, clean the seat from debris and small foreign objects;
  12. Once the heating element is installed, you can assemble the machine by performing the steps in reverse order.

If the error is caused by the temperature sensor rather than the heating element, replacing it will require just as much work. The temperature sensor is located at the base of the heater; on some models, it's located next to the heating element, or in the tank body, as you can see in the photo below.

Replace the part and reassemble the machine. Test the machine's functionality after the repair.

Repair of wiring and control module

The least common cause of a lack of heating is electrical or electronic issues. To troubleshoot this problem yourself, you need to have some experience in this area. Otherwise, you can finally send the electronic module to the dump. The fact is that in some cases the board can be repaired; it is enough to re-solder some burnt-out elements and tracks.

! It's also important to note that completely replacing the control module may require software installation, which is very difficult to do on your own.

However, identifying these elements isn't easy. Therefore, most often, people take this problem to a professional. It'll be cheaper, but you'll certainly save yourself some stress.

As for the wiring, it's a bit easier to handle if you're familiar with a multimeter. You'll need to test all the wires running from the control board to the heater one by one, and then replace the broken wire.

So, the appearance of the H2 error on your Samsung washing machine's display can lead to serious problems, which are often left to a professional to resolve. If you're determined to do it yourself, we're not discouraging you; good luck!
