What is Hygiene Dry in a Dishwasher?
How many of us can boast of using our dishwasher to its full potential? Surely many limit themselves to a few programs for every occasion. Yet modern dishwashers offer a vast array of additional features and capabilities. One of them is Hygiene Dry. Briefly described, Hygiene Dry in a dishwasher is an "invasive" drying process with the dishwasher door closed. We'll examine how this feature works in more detail below.
Purpose of Hygiene Dry in PMM
This feature is available in Bosch's Hygiene Care series dishwashers. This drying method is designed to minimize the transfer of bacteria from the surrounding environment into the dishwasher's chamber. Along with the Hygiene Plus feature, it ensures high-quality cleaning for families with small children.
Another useful feature of this function is the low humidity level in the room where the dishwasher is operating. Using this feature, you'll find your dishes completely dry after opening the door: no puddles, no steam in your face, and completely dry.
Important! By reducing indoor humidity, this function prevents the growth of mold and other fungi and microbes that thrive in humid environments.
Other useful functions of the dishwasher
As mentioned above, the "hygiene" series also features the Hygiene Plus function, which washes and rinses dishes in hot water (up to 70 degrees Celsius). This function is also extremely useful for families with small children, as it ensures the complete destruction of germs during dishwashing.
Some machines are equipped with the PerfectDry function, which allows you to perfectly wash even plastic dishes without leaving streaks. The operating algorithm is based on the use of a special mineral that absorbs moisture.
DuoPower makes intensive washing even more intense and is useful for cleaning greasy and heavily soiled dishes. The ExtraDry function is also designed to remove streaks and drip marks by washing dishes in hot water and drying them for an extra-long time.
PMM models with Hygiene Dry
To begin, let's look at two dishwashers that have this feature, see what people say about them, what the models cost, and how they work.
Let's start with the Bosch SMV25FX01R Hygiene Dry. This dishwasher costs around $440 at M.Video, but you can find it for less at some less reputable retailers.
In addition to the Hygiene Dry function, the dishwasher has a number of other technical functions and features:
- 5 washing programs;
- availability of night mode of operation;
- pre-wash (rinse) function, 3-in-1 technology, on/off control of the sound notification about the end of the wash and a water purity sensor in the dishwasher chamber;
- capacity 13 sets;
- the ability to delay the start of the wash for a period of 3/6/9 hours;
- An advanced safety system that includes child protection, leak protection, mechanical door lock, self-diagnosis system, and automatic unit shutdown.

Reviews of the dishwasher are very positive: users praise the quality of washing and drying, note the quiet operation, low energy consumption, and many other positive aspects.
Another Bosch dishwasher, the SPV2HMX4FR, also features the Hygiene Dry function as part of the Hygiene Care series. DNS, the home appliance store, offers this model for around $370. Let's take a look at its other features and specifications.
- There are 5 washing programs available.
- The capacity is 10 sets of dishes.
- A variety of useful features, including: remote control from a mobile phone via an app, 3 dish baskets, a voice assistant, a floor indicator beam, a flexible and advanced indicator system, and an audible notification of the end of the wash cycle.
Please note: The following modes are available: Standard, Quick Cycle, Economy, Intensive, and Rinse.
Reviews of this dishwasher are overwhelmingly positive. The highest ratings are given to convenience, capacity, ease of use, installation, and performance.
But now let's talk more about the Hygiene Dry function. How exactly does it work? It all boils down to a heat exchanger. The machine collects the moist air that accumulates during the wash cycle, dries it by cooling and removing condensation, and then reheats it and sends it to dry the dishes. This way, the air does not leave the chamber and does not bring with it new portions of bacteria and microbes from outside. Complete sterility and the highest level of hygiene are maintained.
However, is it worth paying extra for this specific feature of Bosch? It's debatable. The machines described above are generally very good and worth the money, but when it comes to the Hygiene Dry function specifically, any machine with a heat exchanger, even a much more affordable one, can be an excellent alternative.
