Indesit washing machine won't turn on
Sometimes it happens that you open the door of your beloved Indesit washing machine, load the drum with dirty laundry, open the drawer, pour in the detergent, then press the power button, and that's it. You press it again, and the Indesit still doesn't respond and won't turn on. You reach for the outlet, the power cord is plugged in, and everything seems fine, but none of the lights on the control panel are lit, and the washing machine doesn't make any sounds. What should you do in this situation? Let's figure it out together.
Possible causes of failure
In such a situation, even a complete amateur will understand that the Indesit washing machine is, for some reason, cut off from the power supply, and therefore its modules are inactive. This means you need to check everything related to electrical and electronic components, both inside and outside the washing machine. You should always start with the simplest and most obvious reasons, for example:
- there are problems with the electrical network, or it is completely de-energized;
- the socket that powers the Indesit washing machine is de-energized or burnt out;
- The plug or the power cord wire is burnt out.
Some of our readers might start spitting at us, saying the authors of this article have gone completely brazen, writing all sorts of nonsense. Why can't I figure out whether there's power in the house? But don't be so quick to criticize; it's not just a blackout. There are localized problems, which we'll discuss in the next section of this publication, but for now, let's list the less obvious causes of breakdowns.
- The FPS was knocked out.
- The varistor or the on/off button of the washing machine has burned out.
- The control microcircuit element burned out.
Important! For an Indesit washing machine to completely lose power, the control microcircuit must burn out almost completely, assuming this is the cause of the symptom.
Something's wrong with the power grid.
If your washing machine won't turn on, don't panic or imagine any faults. The problem may lie not with the machine at all, but with the electrical system that powers it. If your Indesit washing machine won't turn on, experts recommend first checking the outlet it's plugged into. You can easily check whether the socket is working or not by connecting a working electrical appliance to it.
Be careful! If you detect a faulty outlet, immediately unplug it and do not connect anything to it to avoid electric shock or even fire.
If the outlet is de-energized for any reason, you'll need to investigate, and it's best to call an experienced electrician. If you're planning to repair your home's electrical system yourself, be careful, de-energize it first, and only then do anything else, and always follow safety precautions.
Network cable or FPS
The outlet is fine, but the washing machine still doesn't work, won't turn on, and continues to irritate the owner and owner. So, we need to check the plug and power cord, and also the interference filter. On an Indesit washing machine, the power cord and the FPS are connected together, which means they need to be removed together for inspection. How to remove the power cord from an Indesit washing machine along with the power capacitor?
- We disconnect the drain hose, the inlet hose and the power cord from the communications.
- We turn the washing machine towards us with the back wall.
- We unscrew the screws and remove the top wall (cover).
- Let's take a look under the cover. At the top of the case, in the lower left corner, you'll see a network capacitor. Remove it from its mounting.
- At the base of the case there is a special fastening that holds the power cord; it also needs to be removed.
- Now all that remains is to remove the FPS from the machine body along with the wire and plug.
Next, to figure out why your Indesit washing machine won't turn on, you need to check the power cord and the capacitor separately. Disconnect the power cord and set the capacitor aside; we'll check the capacitor later. Set your multimeter to continuity mode, and then test the wire as shown in the figure below. If the wire does not ring, it means there is a breakdown and the wire needs to be replaced. Technicians do not recommend replacing individual wire cores.
Note! Before testing anything with a multimeter, make sure it's working properly. To do this, set the multimeter to resistance measurement mode and connect the probes of the powered-on device together. A working device should display zero or a value very close to zero.

Now let's check the FPS. Our multimeter is already set to continuity, so we immediately place the probes on the capacitor's contacts and test it. If the capacitor rings, we reconfigure the device to test resistance and take measurements. If the multimeter shows zero or one, the capacitor is burned out, meaning it's the cause of the washing machine not turning on.
Varistor or control microcircuit
Is your Indesit washing machine not working or turning on? A varistor (or varistor) could be to blame. This is a semiconductor resistor in the control circuit that protects it from high voltage. When the power supply voltage drops, the varistors in your Indesit washing machine's circuit often burn out, causing the machine to stall and not turn on.
The varistor is one of the few control board components that can be tested and replaced by yourself. That's what we'll do.
- We take out the powder tray, then find two screws underneath it near the niche that need to be unscrewed.
- Unscrew the three screws on top (under the cover) holding the control panel.
- We remove the control panel.
- We disassemble the unit and remove the control microcircuit.

- We find the varistors on the board and check the resistance of each component using a multimeter.
In most cases, a burned-out varistor is immediately visible. They often turn black, or even burn out completely along with the traces.
- If the burnt-out varistor is found, take a soldering iron and unsolder the legs of the faulty part and remove it.
- We buy a similar part from a specialized store and solder it in place of the burned-out one. Soldering must be done very carefully to avoid damaging the tracks.
If everything is done correctly, the washing machine will work properly after reassembly. It's quite possible that the tracks and other semiconductor elements on the control board, in addition to the varistor, may burn out. In this case, if the washing machine doesn't turn on, entrust the repair to a specialist. Get started repair the control board yourself, there is a high probability that you will completely damage the expensive microcircuit, and it will have to be replaced, and this will cost up to 1/5 of the cost of a new washing machine.
Most official service centers don't repair broken circuits; they simply replace them. It's more profitable for them. But if you call several private repairmen, you might be able to find someone willing to repair the part.
On/off button
Why else won't my Indesit washing machine turn on or work? If the washing machine is old, its on/off button is probably broken. In Indesit washing machine models produced 15-20 years ago, shorting the power button would cut off power to the entire appliance. If you have an older Indesit, you may have experienced this problem. What should you do?
- We remove and disassemble the control module.
- We measure the resistance of the button.
- We remove the burnt button and put a new one in its place
You need to measure the resistance with the button on.
So, why isn't my Indesit washing machine working? Not just not working, but not even turning on? There are many possible causes, and your machine may not be one of the most common. In that case, don't bother troubleshooting yourself—consult a professional. Good luck!

Great job!!!! The machine is afraid of the master!!! I have the same problem, the control unit burned out. But I still don't understand why??? I'll check it the way you showed. It would also be great if you showed me which section of the board is responsible for what part of the machine it operates.
Respect!!!
Your video gave me a clue as to the cause, as I can't call a repairman without money, and I need to wash it.
Thank you very much and more earnings!!!
It won't work with freeloaders... IMHO
When I turn it on, not a single light on the panel lights up. And there's a faint beeping sound on the bottom of the board.
Same problem.
I have the same problem, can you tell me what the problem was?
Thanks for the article.
I plugged the cord into the socket, pressed start, but no water flows into the drum. What's wrong?
First, check that there's water in the house and that the tap isn't turned off. If everything is fine, the pump is likely broken or the filter is clogged. These are common problems. The module could also be faulty. Read more here: The washing machine does not drain
The machine doesn't start the program, what should I do?
Help! I press the power button and only the power light comes on. ZANUSSI FJE 904.
Indesit IWSC 5105 washing machine. You set the program, and the machine runs. When the wash cycle ends, it doesn't switch to the rinse cycle, but continues washing. The timer is set to one minute.
What the heck is FPS? Abbreviations need to be explained!
The power strip protects the washing machine's electric motor from failure by smoothing out voltage fluctuations in the power grid. The SM washing machine capacitor can operate without a power strip.
FPS — network noise suppression filter
Indesit WT 52 washing machine. The power button won't turn on. There's no power to it. The power indicator shows power. What else can I check? Why is there no power to the button?
My Indesit washing machine won't turn on. It's making a beeping noise, and none of the buttons are lit. Could you please tell me what this could be?
The wash cycle indicator light is on. There's no water coming in. The drain filter is clean—I've checked it. What could this be? Please advise.
Thank you for such rich and useful information!
My Indesit Wisl105 washing machine isn't showing any signs of life, no matter how much I press the button. What should I do?
Thank you! You're a real person! It's so much fun to be able to fix a washing machine or something else myself with your help. My pension isn't enough to cover all the breakdowns. And I posted, for example, how to tune an accordion. And anyone who criticizes you is a vile, stingy bunch.
Indesit washing machine. When turned on, all the lights blink and it doesn't turn on.
According to the article: firstly, it's not a "microchip," but a control module. Secondly, if the varistors burn out, the machine will still turn on and run. But if they're broken or have a clear leak, it will simply trip the circuit breaker in the panel.
Indesit IVSV5085 washing machine. No water coming out.
The machine won't turn on, the control light is on, what should I do?
I turn on the machine and nothing happens. The brain is receiving power, what should I do?
I turn on the washing machine, everything lights up on the screen, it's working, but it doesn't wash. It doesn't make a single sound, and the timer shows the minutes counting down.
Could you please tell me what the problem is? I have an Indesit 105 washing machine. The drum won't spin. I set it to spin, the light comes on, but the drum doesn't spin.
It worked for about ten minutes, a faint, strange smell appeared, and then it turned off? What burned out?
