Intensive wash in a Bosch washing machine

Bosch washing machine owners sometimes offer unflattering reviews. They claim their clothes don't wash well even after several washes and using the most advanced detergents and stain removers. However, if you ask these people how they use their machines, you'll discover that they regularly wash only a few settings. "Intensive Wash" is a program that helps solve the problem of dirty items that won't wash on standard settings.

Features of this function

Intensive washing is recommended for heavily soiled laundry that won't clean on a regular cycle. This is an exceptional measure, and is rarely used to remove stubborn stains on cotton, linen, synthetics, and other durable materials. It's not recommended to run this cycle regularly.

Intensive washing involves a continuous cycle lasting 4 hours (this time may be shorter or longer depending on the Bosch machine model). This increases not only time but also electricity and water consumption.

Items are subjected to severe mechanical stress and are swirled in a drum in water at the highest temperatures (60-90 degrees) for several hours.

This is a true test for both clothes and most of the components of household appliances. Intensive washing must be effective, so it's important to ensure the drum is properly loaded. Don't fill the washing machine less than 1/4 full or more than 2/3 full. The manufacturer strongly recommends against leaving the drum half-empty or overfilling it. Numerous studies have shown that washing a full drum is 25% less effective.

Let's look at the stages of intensive washing in a Bosch washing machine.

1. Pre-soaking. Lasts about 20 minutes.
2. Slow wash for half an hour.
3. Wash with intensive drum rotation (half an hour).
4. Repeat slow wash for up to 30 minutes.
5. Rinse and spin.

All time intervals listed are approximate, as, as noted above, the functionality of different models varies slightly. Before starting the machine, you should add or pour detergent into both compartments of the detergent drawer (for the pre-wash and main wash). When using the intensive wash mode, you will need 2 times more powder than usual.

When is it appropriate to use a function?

Using the intensive wash cycle too frequently will inevitably damage your washing machine. This is because this function operates the machine at maximum load. The heating element heats up to 90 degrees Celsius and maintains this high temperature for a long time. The pump, which carries the boiling water, also experiences stress. Frequent exposure to hot water can degrade the pressure switch.

Important! In the most modern Bosch models, the pump drains already cooled water, which is pre-cooled in a special tank.

The manufacturer recommends running an intensive wash cycle no more than once a month, preferably even less frequently. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as you can accumulate dirty laundry with set-in stains and wash it all in one go. Avoid using this cycle on delicate fabrics such as silk, cashmere, wool, shoes, jackets, sheepskin coats, and other outerwear. An intensive wash cycle used by mistake instead of the gentle cleansing function can damage your clothes.
