Using a washing machine drain pump
Modern washing machines are equipped with a large number of parts, for which repairmen find numerous alternative uses. For example, a washing machine drain pump can be used for more than just its intended purpose. It can easily be connected to an electrical outlet. Let's find out what useful household gadgets experienced DIYers have come up with.
What can be made from a pump?
An old or broken washing machine can contain a valuable part that could be useful in everyday life. This is the water pump. In most models, it is installed at the bottom, under the drum. Its primary purpose is to pump liquid out of the machine and into the sewer system.
Important! The pump is directly connected to a 220V, 50Hz AC power source. Its power output is 30W.
The drain pump includes an electromagnetic coil and a sealed unit with a motor core and impeller. One of the options for using the pump is to make a submersible pump for watering plants in a summer cottage. The pump's pressure isn't sufficient to pump water from a well or borehole. However, it's sufficient to pump water from a barrel or a larger ground-mounted tank.
How to assemble a homemade device from a pump?
The first thing a technician needs to do when using a pump is disconnect the coil. It's easy to pull out. The coil is equipped with a fuse. This device prevents damage to the winding. It is activated when a certain temperature is exceeded. The next steps are as follows.
- You need to solder the network cable. Its length can be any, depending on your needs.
- Make a cut for the wire in the coil frame. The frame can be made from thick paper.
- Pour epoxy resin inside to seal the electrical components. To dilute it and pour it into the coil frame, provide a suitable base so that the resin and the component can be easily removed later.
Please note! Before pouring, all gaps in the coil frame should be thoroughly sealed with hot glue to ensure a secure seal. This prevents epoxy resin from leaking.
The structure should be left to dry for 24 hours. This time is enough for the resin to harden properly. Then you can begin making the suction pipe. To test the pump's performance in advance, take a bucket, fill it with water, lower the pump, and turn it on.
The water pressure in a water barrel should be sufficient to water garden plants at any height. The pump has good performance. It only takes a few seconds to pump water from a bucket. When building such homemade devices, it's important to remember that sufficient experience and knowledge are required. Voltage of 220 V is life-threatening. Therefore, working in such conditions is only possible at your own risk, with strict adherence to all safety precautions.
