How to wash a saucepan in the dishwasher
It might seem like there's nothing complicated about loading a pot into the dishwasher and running a wash cycle. But in reality, even this simple task requires careful consideration. First, you need to match the pot size to the dishwasher's dish rack size. Then, you need to understand which pots are dishwasher-safe and which are not. And finally, you need to figure out how to properly position the pot in the rack to ensure a perfect wash. This is what we'll cover in this article.
The main thing is that it fits.
Many dishwasher users think that if a pan fits into the dishwasher, even if only on its side, it's safe to wash. But this, of course, isn't true. A pan must fit in the upper or lower rack, and its edge shouldn't even touch the upper spray arm. Incorrectly positioning a pan inside the dishwasher can result in:
- sprinkler failure;
- overflow and activation of the self-diagnostic system;
- poor quality of washing.
Only correct installation of the pan can ensure good quality of washing.
How to install correctly?
Now let's figure out how to properly load pots in the dishwasher. We've already established that you can't load pots sideways into the racks. This is because the spray arms spray from above and below. If the pot is placed sideways, the water mixed with detergent won't reach the dirty surfaces, and the pot will remain dirty.
You also shouldn't place a pot upside down, as it will quickly fill with water during the wash cycle, and the machine will freeze without completing the program. Any pot, large or small, should only be placed upside down. In this case, the powerful jet from the upper spray arm will wash the outside of the pot, and the even more powerful jet from the lower spray arm will wash the inside.
If the pots are small, they can be placed upside down in the basket, close to each other. You should not place any dishes, even small ones, on the bottom of the pan. As a result, the pan and whatever you placed on it won't be washed. So, let's start washing.
- We turn on the dishwasher and open the washing chamber door.
- Clean the pot of any food debris and place it upside down in the lower basket. If the pot is large, you can remove the upper basket to free up extra space.
You need to make sure that the pan is made of a dishwasher-safe material.
- Select a washing program. The intensive washing program is best; other programs may not be able to cope with the task. If Whirlpool dishwasher Or any other function that has a "Pre-soak" function, activate it. It will come in handy in this case.

- We arrange other dishes so that they do not interfere with washing the pan.
- Add detergent and rinse aid, close the dishwasher door and start the program.
- We take out clean dishes.
Which pans should not be put in the dishwasher?
Once again, we remind you that not all cookware is dishwasher safe. If you're washing your pots in the dishwasher for the first time, make sure they're made of a material that won't rust or react with detergent. For example, aluminum cookware shouldn't be washed in the dishwasher. Dark stains will remain on the aluminum pot after washing. Removing these stains will be very difficult, if not impossible. The pot will have to be thrown away.
You also shouldn't wash pots made of rusty metal. This is especially true for pots that already have light traces of rust. Detergent is very harsh and will accelerate the metal's degradation process significantly, so it's best to wash rusty pots by hand and then discard them.
So, we've explained how to properly wash pots in a dishwasher. It's important to remember a few simple rules, and you'll never encounter problems like this again. Good luck!
