How to connect a tabletop dishwasher
Connecting any dishwasher is a simple matter; the key is to read the instructions carefully and take your time. Floor-standing dishwashers are a bit inconvenient to connect because you have to reach behind the back of the dishwasher and fiddle around with it to connect the hoses to the water supply and drain lines. Connecting a tabletop dishwasher is much simpler. Let's take a look at how it's done.
What is required for installation?
The components required for installing a dishwasher will depend on the state of the kitchen plumbing. If you've previously installed a dishwasher and have a tee tap and a siphon with a drain hose connection, you'll need minimal components. If the plumbing isn't ready, you'll need to purchase:
- flow filter for ¾ inch thread;
- tee tap with the same thread;
- siphon with a branch (nipple);
- any winding;
- a couple of clamps.
If desired, you can purchase and install a fine filter, but in the future it will have to be replaced or cleaned once every three months, or perhaps more often.
The tools you'll need are a screwdriver, pliers, and a small adjustable wrench. Also, consider the location where you'll be installing the dishwasher. There should be enough space on the counter or cabinet for the dishwasher to stand level and for the hoses to reach the connection points.
Installation process
If we don't have the plumbing for the dishwasher, we can't begin the connection process, so let's set the dishwasher aside for now and focus on the water and sewer connections. Let's start with the sewer. Inspect your trap installed under the kitchen sink. If it has a side outlet for the drain hose, everything is fine. However, if your old trap doesn't have a outlet, you'll need to replace it with a more suitable one. Here's what to do:
- We will purchase a new siphon with two nozzles, the additional nozzle should be kept in a plugged position, it will come in handy over time;
- unscrew and put aside the old siphon;
- We assemble and connect the new siphon.
Make sure the new trap is screwed on securely. All rubber gaskets must be in place, otherwise the siphon will leak water. There's no need to remove the plugs yet. Next, we'll move on to the water supply connection.
- We shut off the cold water riser and drain the water from the pipes by opening the mixer tap in the kitchen.
- At the point where the mixer outlet hose connects to the cold water pipe, unscrew the nuts and disconnect the hose and pipe.
- We connect the flow-through filter to the faucet using a tee, tightening the connection correctly (against the threads). The filter is screwed to the closed, free outlet of the tee faucet.
- We screw a plastic pipe to one outlet of the tee valve, and screw the hose to the other. We wrap the connections. The outlet blocked by the valve must remain free. The valve on the tee must be closed.
- We turn on the water and make sure that the connection does not leak.
Well, we've got the preparations sorted out. Next, we'll get started with the actual connection.compact dishwasher Do it yourself. The most crucial stage of the work is connecting to the water supply and sewer lines. Connect the inlet hose to the tee faucet and screw it to the available outlet, remembering to tighten the threads. Connect the drain hose to the trap and connect it to the outlet. If the connection seems unreliable, install the clamp you prepared in advance.
Lastly, turn on the water supply to the inlet hose and plug the dishwasher into the outlet. If there are no leaks, you can begin a test run. If you need to connect the dishwasher quickly for a test run, you can simply drop the drain hose into the sink. It may not look very nice, but the dishwasher will perform just as well.
In conclusion, connecting a countertop dishwasher is not much different from connecting any other dishwasher. The only difference is that it's much more convenient, as this appliance's body is compact and easily transportable. Happy installation!
