How to change a washing machine drain hose?

Replacing the washing machine drain hoseReplacing the drain hose is a bit more complicated than replacing the inlet hose. The inlet hose is screwed onto the outside of the washing machine. Replacing the drain hose may require partial disassembly of the machine. It's connected to the drain pump, so we'll need to access the inside of the machine. Depending on the brand of the appliance, the hose may exit at the top or bottom of the rear wall.

To understand how it's located inside, it's best to remove the top part of the case (the lid). This is done quite simply:

  1. Unscrew a couple of screws that are located at the back.
  2. Then push the cover towards the back of the machine.
  3. Now you can safely remove it.

Different washing machine models may have different internal structures and drain hose positions. Therefore, we suggest considering the replacement process for machines made under different brands.

We replace the drain hose for various models of washing machines: Indesit, Ariston, LG, Candy, Ardo, Beko, Samsung, Whirpool

Location of the drain hose in the washing machine

With these machines you can access the hose through the bottom. To do this, we will do the following:

  1. We remove the base panel.
  2. Carefully and slowly remove the drain pump filter. Have a container or rag ready to catch the water, as this will be where the water will leak.
  3. To easily access the machine from underneath, we need to move it away from the wall and tilt it.
  4. Remove the bolts or other fastening elements of the snail. Then remove it.
  5. Now we loosen the clamp that secures the hose to the drain pump and disconnect the hose.
  6. Before completely removing the old hose, you need to remember how it's secured inside the machine. You can take a photo if you'd like. Then unhook it, pull it out, and remove it from the washing machine. To make it easier to remove the old hose and replace it with the new one, you may need to remove the top part of the cover. You can find instructions above.
  7. We install the new drain hose. Secure it to the pump with a clamp. Then we return all the removed parts to their original positions.
  8. Be sure to check that the connections are secure and there are no leaks. Also, check the tightness of the new hose.

We replace the hose on AEG, Siemens, and Bosch washing machines.

In such machines, in order to get to the hose, we need to remove the front part of the body.

Let's take a closer look at the entire replacement process:

  1. First, let's remove the dispenser container.
  2. Then we will remove the base panel.
  3. Loosen and remove the clamp securing the door rubber seal. Then, unclip the seal from the front panel of the cabinet.
  4. We remove the drain pump filter and drain the water into a shallow container prepared in advance.
  5. We unscrew the screws that hold the front part of the machine.
  6. Pull the bottom of the wall toward you by a couple of centimeters, then slide it down and gently pull it toward you. You want to create a gap of about 5 centimeters.
  7. On the inside, you need to feel for the hatch locking device. It's located where the lock hook enters the hole when the door is closed. You need to disconnect the connector with the wires from this device.

Now let's replace the hose.

  1. By removing the front panel, you've gained access to the hose. Now you can remove the retaining elements and disconnect it from the pump.
  2. After this, remember or take a photo of the location and fastenings of the hose.
  3. We disconnect the hose and take it out.
  4. We extend and connect the new hose to the pump and fasteners.
  5. We assemble the car.
  6. We check the tightness of the connections.

How to replace the hose on Electrolux and Zanussi washing machines

For these models, we will need to remove the back panel of the case to replace it.

  1. Let's start with the top of the case. It's best to remove it too. To do this, unscrew the screws at the back. Then push the cover from the front toward the back and remove it.
  2. Now let's unscrew the screws holding the back cover in place. On some machines, they may be hidden behind covers.
  3. We remove the filler valve retainer and open the back wall of the machine.
  4. It's time to clean the hose. Straighten it and lay it on the floor. This will allow any remaining water to drain. You can wipe it away with a rag or pour it into a prepared container.
  5. We remove the clamp securing the hose to the drain pump and detach the old drain hose.
  6. Carefully examine how the hose is attached to the machine from the inside. You can take a photo if you like. Then, remove it from the clips and pull it out.
  7. We take a working hose, pull it inside the machine, fix it on the pump, and put on all the fasteners.
  8. We assemble the machine.
  9. We check the hose by running a test wash.

For such machines, we will need to remove the side part of the case.

  1. Remove all the screws from the side of the machine's body. They may be on the back of the body or on the front side at the bottom.
  2. Just like with other models, remove the clamp and detach the hose from the drain pump.
  3. Take a photo or remember the location and methods of fixing the hose.
  4. We unfasten all the fasteners and remove the hose.
  5. We take the prepared, serviceable hose and install it in place of the removed one. We also secure everything as before.
  6. We assemble the washing machine and test the hose using washing.

I changed the pump on my Siemens without removing the front panel. I removed the top cover to check the suspension (4 screws), and tilted the car on its side, propping it up with a stool lying on its side. Everything was clearly visible from below and accessible for changing the pump and hose...
