How to wash a polyester jacket in a washing machine

we wash the jacketHow to wash a polyester jacket in a washing machine? This question is important to discuss, especially considering that half the country is currently wearing such jackets. Of course, it would certainly be profitable for manufacturers of such clothing if people don't know how to properly care for their jackets, ruining them, and consequently buying them more often. But if you think about it, it's better for everyone to know everything and avoid making mistakes. This idea motivated us to write this article, and we hope this information will be useful.

Preparing items for washing

When preparing to machine wash a polyester jacket, carefully inspect the item and try to locate any traces of dirt. After a thorough inspection, you may decide to dry clean it, especially since modern cleaning solutions can work wonders.

Once you've determined that your polyester winter jacket does need to be washed, read the label to learn the washing instructions for this garment. This is crucial.

Next, you need to unzip the jacket's hood, lining, and anything else that can be removed. These items can be washed separately; there's no need to overload the washing machine. Empty the jacket's pockets; it's unacceptable for them to bea foreign object got into the washing machine and caused a breakdown. Fasten all the zippers and buttons, then turn the jacket inside out and fold it so that the largest snap fasteners and metal buttons remain inside.

Now it's time to choose a detergent. A polyester jacket is difficult to rinse, so detergent is out of the question. Laundry gels, such as these, are best:

  • Nordland;
  • Valu Shampoo;
  • Domal Sport;
  • Kaneyo and others.

suitable liquid laundry detergents

When choosing a particular gel, base your decision on three criteria.

  • Firstly, the gel should rinse out well and not contain any aggressive or persistent ingredients, including bleach.
  • Secondly, the gel should be suitable for washing jackets and other items made of polyester. If the instructions do not indicate that the product is suitable for polyester, do not buy it.
  • Thirdly, the product should dissolve well in water, even at low temperatures, and contain a conditioner to remove static.

If there are difficult stains on the jacket, they must be pre-treated. Otherwise, they won't come out, since we won't be soaking the item for long. It's best to treat stains with special dry cleaning products designed for polyester outerwear.

The washing process

Now that the preparation is complete, let's move on to the question of how to wash a polyester jacket. Let's take a step-by-step approach to make the process easier to understand, starting with machine washing.

  1. We put the polyester jacket in the washing machine and close the door.

Important! A polyester jacket is quite bulky, although not heavy. However, if it absorbs enough water, it will become unwieldy. The drum must be loaded sufficiently.

  1. Pour in a little of the gel-like product. You shouldn't pour too much, but you shouldn't underfill either. To avoidwe load the jacket into the car If you make a mistake in dosage, carefully read the information contained on the product label.
  2. Set the delicate wash program or a similar one and adjust its parameters. You need to set a double rinse, a spin speed of no more than 500 rpm, and a temperature of 400WITH.
  3. Once the program is complete, remove the jacket and take steps to dry it.

Machine washing a polyester jacket sounds simple, and in principle, it is, but don't be fooled. Frequent machine washing has a negative impact on outerwear. So, if you want your polyester jacket to last longer than two seasons, alternate between machine washing and hand washing. Speaking of hand washing, by the way.

To wash such an item by hand, fill a suitable container with warm water, dissolve a little gel in it, and place the pre-washed jacket in it. The water should not be too hot, maximum 40 degrees, even better 30.Let the item sit in the basin for 10 minutes, then take a sponge and begin gently scrubbing the jacket inside and out. After this, rinse the item thoroughly with water 2-3 times, then drain, and prepare to dry.

How to dry correctly?

Ultimately, it doesn't matter whether you wash your polyester jacket by hand or in the washing machine. You'll still need to dry it properly, which isn't as easy as it might seem. If the jacket dries too slowly, it will develop an unpleasant odor, requiring repeated washing. Furthermore, the filling can clump together and create additional problems, so you need to be smart about it.

How to dry a jacket properly

When planning to wash a polyester jacket, you should already be thinking about how and where you'll dry it. During the off-season, when the heating in your apartment is already turned off and it's damp and cool inside, and the weather outside is also chilly, washing the jacket is not recommended, as there will be nowhere to dry it. Unless, of course, you have a special drying cabinet. Wait until the conditions are right for drying the jacket before washing it. What should you do?

  • During the warm season, we place a folding clothes dryer on the balcony.
  • We make sure that it is not exposed to direct sunlight, then we spread out a couple of large terry towels to dry.
  • Place a freshly washed jacket directly on top of the towels and leave it in the warm air.
  • After 1.5-2 hours, shake the jacket and turn it over, smoothing out any wrinkles as much as possible. Continue doing this every 2 hours until the garment is dry.

Avoid overdrying your jacket. It's best to take it off slightly underdried and hang it on a hanger to allow it to straighten out better and prevent shrinkage.

If the item is made of membrane fabric?

Some people find caring for jackets made from membrane fabric problematic. We believe there's nothing to worry about; the key is to follow a few washing and care guidelines to ensure your jacket lasts as long as possible.

jacket with membrane fabric

  1. Wash jackets with membrane fabric primarily by hand. Machine washing should be used only in rare cases.
  2. Wash in lukewarm water 300WITH.
  3. Use only liquid gels and shampoos specifically formulated for this type of fabric. These are often gels and shampoos designed for washing sportswear, such as Cotico, Burti Sport, NORDLAND, and others.
  4. After washing and drying, a membrane-fabricated item should be treated with a special impregnation; otherwise, the jacket will lose some of its useful properties, and most importantly, the fabric will very quickly become unusable.
  5. Dry a jacket with a membrane fabric in a horizontal position away from strong heat sources and direct sunlight.

So, multiple practical tests have shown that washing polyester jackets in the washing machine is perfectly possible, but doing so frequently will ruin your favorite outerwear. Therefore, alternate hand washing with machine washing, and your jacket will last much longer. Good luck!
