How to wash velour items

washing velourVelvet is a luxurious and expensive fabric that requires special care. Modern velvet comes in a variety of finishes, including natural and synthetic, making it affordable for many. However, to ensure velvet items always retain their attractive appearance, they need to be washed or cleaned properly, which is what we'll discuss below.

General washing rules

Before placing an item in water or washing machine, please review the following guidelines:

  • Before washing, read the label on your clothes; it contains all the necessary washing information;
  • A velour dress and other items made from this fabric can, in most cases, be washed not only by hand, but also in a washing machine;

    Avoid placing items made of drape or velour, such as jackets and blazers, in the car. It's best to dry clean these items.

  • velour cannot be soaked, it is washed immediately;

  • When hand washing, do not wring or squeeze items;
  • Also, do not iron velour; if necessary, steam the item to give it a neat appearance after washing.

  2. Pre-wash any stubborn stains, such as a baby velour jumpsuit.

  4. Next, pour the detergent into the main wash compartment or pour it into a container and place it in the drum along with the clothes.
  5. Set the delicate wash cycle at 30 degrees and spin speed no more than 600 rpm, you can also use the function Easy ironing.
  6. After washing, straighten the item and hang it to dry in the open air, but not in direct sunlight.
  7. If the pile of the garment becomes flattened after washing and drying, brush it with a soft brush in the direction of the pile or hold it over hot water. You can also use a steamer, but do not iron.

    Children's velour clothing can be ironed with a warm iron from the inside out, being careful not to crush the pile.

We clean outerwear and upholstery

velor upholsteryWashing a velour dress is more or less clear, but velour can also be used on a jacket, trousers, or even the upholstery of a chair or sofa. Machine washing isn't always possible, so dry-cleaning is the preferred method.

Shiny areas from long wear can be held over steam for about 3-4 minutes to straighten the pile. Soiled areas should be lightly scrubbed with a mild soap solution using a brush. Then hang the garment on a hanger to dry. A hairdryer can be used, but avoid holding it too close.

Velour upholstery should be vacuumed regularly using a special attachment. This may eliminate the need to wash the item altogether. Pay particular attention to the seam lines, as these are where dust and dirt most often accumulate.

We hope this explains how to wash velour. However, if you're unsure whether washing your items at home will damage them, consider taking your treasured items to a dry cleaner. Professionals there will do everything right. Good luck!
