How to Install a Dishwasher Door Seal
Replacing the dishwasher door seal may be necessary when the door starts leaking. Initially, a few drops of water leak onto the floor throughout the entire wash cycle, which can be easily overlooked, but then the door begins to drip quite vigorously, forming a sizable puddle next to the dishwasher. Installing a lower door seal can solve the problem, as the lower seal is often the cause of the problem. Let's figure out how.
Tools and accessories
Replacing the top dishwasher seal requires no tools at all. Simply purchase a new original seal and replace it with a flick of the wrist. It's that simple. Replacing the bottom dishwasher seal, however, is a bit more complicated. You'll need:
- Phillips screwdriver;
- tweezers or round-nose pliers;
Tweezers are needed to pry up and pull out the bottom elastic, so if you don't have tweezers or round-nose pliers at hand, use any other suitable tool.
- gloves;
- new original lower seal.
The upper and lower rubber bands of an Electrolux, Ariston or any other dishwasher are very different from each other. In addition, different brands and models of cars have different rubber bands. Please pay special attention to this when ordering components. It's best to purchase or order rubber bands from branded stores; we strongly advise against searching for suitable replacements.
Procedure
Experts recommend replacing the seals as a set. Don't replace just the bottom or top seal; it won't do much good. It's best to start with the top seal. Here's how:
- fully open the door of the Coopersberg, Candy or any other dishwasher;
- Using your fingers, grab the seal located along the edges of the washing chamber and tear it off;
- We unpack the new seal and gradually glue it in place of the old one.
Make sure the seal fits properly and adheres to the bottom of the groove with the self-adhesive layer. Once you've verified that the top seal is seated properly, you can move on to replacing the bottom rubber.
- We fully open the door of the Bosch, Samsung or any other dishwasher.
- Take a screwdriver and unscrew the screws that hold the front panel of the door.
- We close the dishwasher door, then pull the front panel off the clips and put it aside.
- Open the door completely again, then use tweezers to reach into its base and grab the edge of the lower seal.
- Carefully remove the old seal and put it aside.
- We take a new rubber band out of the packaging.
- Push the new rubber seal into place of the old one until it stops, ensuring it is seated along its entire length. The seal should not protrude beyond the edges of the wash bin.
Please note! The new rubber seal has a transverse slit. This slit should be on the right side of the door.
Now you need to close the doorZanussi dishwasher Or any other. Pay attention to the bottom of the door. The bottom seal should fit evenly in the groove and protrude forward by approximately 2-3 mm. Next, all we have to do is slide the front panel onto the clips, tighten the screws, and you can try running the dishwasher. The repair is complete.
Caring for rubber gaskets
Daily use of the dishwasher means that the lower seal is almost constantly exposed to moisture and drying. This process can cause the rubber to crack and leak over time. To prevent this and prolong the life of the seal, wipe the rubber around the edges of the dishwasher with a dry cloth after each wash. A clean and dry rubber seal will last a long time.
If the dishwasher has been stored in a cold place for a long time and then put back into operation, the rubber seals need to be prepped. How do you do this? Take WD-40, spray it on a cloth, and then wipe the top and bottom rubber seals. This simple measure will protect the seals from damage. But don't overdo it with the lubricant, it shouldn't spread.
To summarize, installing dishwasher seals takes 15 minutes for a professional and 30 minutes for a novice. As you can see, it's not difficult; it'll take longer to find the components than to install them. The main thing is to be careful and take your time, and everything will be fine. Good luck!
