How to build a dishwasher into a cabinet

dishwasher in a pencil caseSome homeowners compare kitchen planning to building a lunar rover or a space shuttle. They drive themselves and their hired designers crazy, shaving off centimeters and even millimeters of kitchen space to fit more furniture and appliances. Many dream of building a dishwasher into a cabinet next to an oven, microwave, or other appliance, but don't know how. Let's take a closer look.

The principle of embedding

Currently, there are two different ways to install a dishwasher in a tall cabinet: vertical installation and horizontal installation. Horizontal installation involves placing a 3-4-section tall cabinet along a wall. Each section (wall to wall) contains a household appliance: a dishwasher, washing machine, oven, etc.

Vertical installation is done in a classic tall cabinet, where the dishwasher is located on the lower level and the oven or other appliances are located on the upper level. Using a classic tall cabinet is attractive because it saves a significant amount of space (55 to 90 cm). Why? Because the appliances are not placed side by side, but rather one above the other. The dishwasher is built into the lower level of the tall cabinet.

  1. First, we measure the interior space of the cabinet niche and compare it with the dimensions of the dishwasher body.

The dishwasher body may have small protrusions, so before arranging a furniture niche, it is necessary to determine the exact dimensions of the machine down to 1 mm, in all places.

  1. We determine the location of the dishwasher body in the niche and mark the location of the internal walls.PMM in a pencil case
  2. At the bottom of the main niche, we make cuts to match the thickness of the material used for the interior walls. We adjust the walls themselves to the depth and height of the niche. A single cut is also possible, in which case the side wall of the niche will serve as a second interior wall. The inner walls of the niche should not reach the cabinet door by 2-3 cm. You can make a cutout in the dishwasher cabinet using a jigsaw and a chisel.
  3. We install the internal walls and secure them from above with internal corners.
  4. We hang the furniture front on the dishwasher door, insert the machine into the prepared niche and, if necessary, secure it there.
  5. We connect the dishwasher and check its operation.

It's both aesthetically pleasing and practical. You save real space in the kitchen, and the dishwasher is hidden by internal and external walls, plus two doors. Behind these barriers, the dishwasher's operation is barely audible and invisible. Many homeowners appreciate this, and rightly so.

To install a built-in dishwasher, you'll need basic carpentry tools: a mallet, a chisel, and a jigsaw. You'll also need a ruler, a pencil, a screwdriver, and a drill to drill the holes for the screws. Materials needed: a sheet of laminated chipboard to match the cabinet color, a metal angle bracket, screws, and brackets for the dishwasher body.

Neighbors for the dishwasher

There's a lot of debate online about the placement of the dishwasher in the kitchen relative to other appliances. Which appliances can be placed next to it in a cabinet, and which ones are absolutely not? Let's find out.

Some people are shouting about thatHansa dishwasher Or any other type of appliance, you can't put it in the same cabinet as a microwave oven. How true is this statement? Indeed, there should be a significant gap between the microwave and the nearest household appliance, at least 7-10 cm. It's possible to achieve this clearance in a vertical cabinet. Simply create an additional internal shelf inside the upper niche, raising the microwave by the required 10 cm relative to the lower niche.

Well, it's clear that you can't put a dishwasher and a washing machine in a classic tall cabinet at the same time, although in a horizontal tall cabinet they can stand next to each other, provided that their side walls are separated by a partition.

What conclusion can we draw? Building a dishwasher into a pencil case isn't a complicated process; you just need to carefully calculate everything, make a sketch, and carefully, unhurriedly, implement it. And, of course, you need to know the general principles of building a dishwasher into a pencil case, which we discussed today. Good luck!
