How to get rid of cockroaches in a dishwasher

cockroaches in the dishwasherSome housewives find it hard to believe that cockroaches could be lurking in their clean, modern apartment, with all the amenities, and in the dishwasher, no less. Is it really that interesting, why do cockroaches infest the dishwasher? Is it because there are no other hiding places in the house? Cockroaches are creatures that obey ancient instincts, and if they've taken up residence in the dishwasher, there are obvious reasons for it. We'll explore these reasons and, at the same time, find out how to get rid of these pests.

Why do insects like cars?

Everyone knows that cockroaches are insects capable of rapid reproduction, and if a single pair of these creatures appears in the house, within a month they will become a horde. So, action must be taken quickly, but first, it's important to understand where exactly they live. If you notice a cockroach near the dishwasher, there is an 80% chance that it has taken up residence there. Most likely, there's more than one. Why do we allow ourselves to make such statements? Our logic stems from the insect's behavioral characteristics and its needs.

  1. The dishwasher is always warm and humid. Cockroaches love warmth, as it promotes reproduction, and they require moisture because the moisture they absorb from food isn't enough. They need water.
  2. The dishwasher has plenty of safe places where hot water and detergents don't reach.

The easiest place for a cockroach to find a secluded spot is in the washing machine tray, but sometimes they also settle in the door and in the partitions of the body.

  1. A dishwasher doesn't vibrate as much as a washing machine, for example, which means you can rest peacefully in its depths during the day and then go out at night in search of food.
  2. A dishwasher can also become a food source if owners don't take good care of it. Food scraps that accumulate at the bottom of the dishwasher and in the dust filter can easily feed an entire colony of cockroaches.

A few more arguments could be made, but it's already clear that a dishwasher is a cockroach's paradise. There's no better place in the house, since a cockroach's main enemy—humans—is unlikely to dismantle the dishwasher to disturb a nest.

Where do they come from?

In apartment buildings, cockroaches can move almost freely from one neighbor to another. The apartment of a dirty neighbor is the most likely source of these insects. Getting rid of dirty neighbors is quite difficult, but you can periodically pester them to take action and exterminate the insects.

Another source of insects is the basement. Those same neighbors can turn the basement into a veritable dumping ground, where a whole army of insects can thrive. The basement is damp, warm, and there's plenty of food in the form of garbage. However, if cockroaches breed in huge numbers, they'll inevitably leave the basement to explore new areas. Guess where they'll end up? In this case, you need to pressure the management company to remove the garbage and call in pest control specialists to treat the basement.

If your building has a garbage chute, there's a chance cockroaches will take up residence near it. Well, the entrance hall is heated and food waste is nearby—what else do you need for a full life? In short, there are plenty of places in an apartment building where cockroaches could breed. But how do they get into the apartment? There are plenty of options here, too.

  1. A "Prusak" can sneak into your apartment through the front door. While you were dawdling with your things, entering the apartment, you gave the little "illegal" free passage.
  2. A cockroach can enter through a ventilation vent if it is not closed properly.
  3. Insects come through risers if the gap between the slab and the pipe is large enough.
  4. Cockroaches come from neighbors through the joints between slabs: near baseboards, near chandeliers, through the pantry, etc.
  5. Cockroaches can also come from neighbors and through the balcony during the warm season if your balcony and your neighbors' balcony adjoin each other.

cockroach at the drainAs you can imagine, fencing off insects is very difficult, but it's still possible. All potential entry points for cockroaches should be blocked. The front door should be marked with a special poison, such as chalk. A cockroach will pass through this barrier and enter the apartment, but it won't survive long afterward.

The ventilation vent should be securely covered with a plastic grate, and a special cockroach poison should be placed inside the opening. All cracks between the riser pipes and the slab should be filled with construction foam. In general, try to eliminate any known cracks. This will increase the chances of cockroaches getting into the apartment in the future.

How to get rid of it?

If cockroaches do appear, you need to get rid of them immediately. To remove them, you need to try to determine where they're hiding. If you've seen cockroaches near the dishwasher, you'll need to turn it off and remove it. While you're doing this, there's a chance the cockroach will leave its hiding place and find its final resting place on the sole of your slipper. This method is certainly crude, but quite effective.

Next, we drag the dishwasher to the balcony, buy an effective poison in the form of a spray from the store, unscrew the side walls of the dishwasher and poison the interior space, placing it on the tray. The machine needs to be treated generously, as cockroaches are quite tenacious.

If dismantling the machine is not possible, you will have to purchase professional poison in the form of bait, etc. We would recommend placing a Raptor cockroach trap on the bottom of the washing chamber. Get rid of cockroaches in Bosch dishwasher, folk remedies will also help.

Along with professional bait, you can roll balls of raw egg yolk and boric acid. Many cockroaches will die after ingesting this poison. Poisoned chalks from various manufacturers are effective against crawling insects. Buy several types to ensure your cockroaches are sensitive to one. All insecticides are effective against insects, so don't skimp on chemicals. You don't want the cockroaches to win in an unequal fight.

Cockroaches live in dishwashers! Especially Bosch ones! No amount of cleaning products will help! We threw it out, and a week later, there weren't any cockroaches anywhere near it! We used to see them behind the refrigerator, too. But their main place is the dishwasher—it's warm, there's food debris, and there's water! We simply threw it out, and everything disappeared without boric acid, chemicals, or anything!
