Can I put the tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher?
According to the instructions, multifunctional dishwasher tablets should be placed in the detergent dispenser compartment. However, some machines have a problem where the compartment lid doesn't open at the right time, the capsule remains dry, and the dishwasher simply rinses with water without adding any detergent. What should you do in this situation?
The ideal option is to repair the dishwasher immediately. But is it okay to add detergent to the bottom of the dishwasher before repairing it? Will this make a difference? We'll also discuss the composition of dishwasher tablets and how they work.
Is there any use in having a tablet at the bottom of the washing chamber?
Of course, if the detergent dispenser lid doesn't open in time, there's no other option but to place the capsule at the bottom of the bin. This is possible, but it won't be very helpful. A 3-in-1 tablet placed directly into the washing chamber will dissolve very quickly and will not provide the expected effect during the main wash.
The tablet will begin to dissolve during the pre-wash stage. All cleaning agents contained in the tablet will be released early and then flushed down the drain. When the main cycle begins, the tank will contain plain water with a low concentration of detergent.
The effect of a tablet at the bottom of the washing chamber will be half as strong as that of a capsule loaded into the dishwasher dispenser.
If there's no other option, you can increase the effectiveness of a tablet placed at the bottom of the washing machine. Run a program that doesn't include a pre-wash stage. This will also dissolve the capsule quickly, but the water won't be drained down the drain, but will be used for the main cycle.
What if you don’t add any products at all?
All household appliances must be used according to the instructions. Dishwasher manufacturers warn against using the machine without special regenerating salt and detergent. Why is adding these ingredients necessary?
Regenerating salt protects your dishwasher from scale and limescale build-up.
It's acceptable to use a dishwasher without salt in regions with soft tap water. In other cases, salt crystals are necessary to soften hard water. This will prevent scale buildup on the appliance's components.
If you use a dishwasher without detergent, there are several possible scenarios:
- the dishes will be washed well;
- the quality of washing will be satisfactory;
- the cutlery will remain dirty.

Washing dishes without detergent, gel, or tablets is a gamble. If the cutlery is lightly soiled, hot water alone will generally do the job. However, in most cases, the desired effect will be lost—the dishes will be left with traces of grease and food residue.
Each user decides for themselves what form of detergent to use. These can be powders, dishwasher gels, or multi-functional tablets. Capsules are much more convenient—one capsule is enough for one wash cycle.
The dishwasher tablets are described on the packaging. It details the ingredients and how they work. For example, the capsules contain enzymes to dissolve fat and protein stains, as well as regenerating salt and rinse aid to leave dishes sparkling.

At what specific point does the detergent dispenser open during the pre-wash cycle?
How many flushes does the machine do in standard mode (non-rinse)? This is important to know so I know when to place a tablet in the bottom of the machine if the automatic dispenser lid doesn't open automatically. I don't plan on replacing it for 8,000-11,000 rubles.
