Samsung Washing Machine Error Codes

Samsung washing machine logoYou may see an error code on your Samsung washing machine's display. This usually occurs when the appliance malfunctions or breaks down. In some cases, you can repair the machine yourself, once you understand the problem. There's no need to immediately call a professional appliance repair technician. The most common malfunctions and troubleshooting steps are described on this website. However, to begin repairing them, you need to diagnose them. This is where the error codes and their explanations, which you'll find below, come in handy.

SMA Samsung errors

Below you can find a list of all common Samsung washing machine error codes. They're categorized for your convenience.

1E – error or malfunction of the level relay (pressure switch)

Reasons:

  • The level relay tube is damaged or chipped.
  • The tube has come loose.
  • The tube is clogged or pinched.
  • Problems with the pressure switch wires and connections.
  • Level relay failure.
  • The control module has become unusable.

Electric motor tachogenerator errors

Next we will discuss some errors related to the tachogenerator.

3E

Reasons:

  • Damage to the engine windings.
  • Violation of electric motor contacts.
  • Violation of tacho contacts.
  • The electric motor jammed due to a foreign body.

3E1

Reasons:

  • There is too much laundry in the drum, so the motor cannot work properly.
  • Electric motor contacts failure.
  • The tachogenerator is broken.

3E2

Bad tachogenerator signal. Possible causes:

  • Tachogenerator failure.
  • Breakdown of contacts.
  • And so on.

3E3

  • Bad module contacts.
  • The parts of the electric motor (direct drive) have shifted.
  • Incorrect tachometer signals.

3E4

  • Electric motor failure.
  • The tachogenerator is faulty.
  • The integrity of the contacts is damaged.

Next, let's move on to water-related problems.

Washing machine error codes related to water filling

4E

  • Incorrect connection of hoses (hot and cold water are mixed up).
  • There is no connection from the hose to the dispenser. The hose may be kinked or leaking.
  • The contacts of the fill valve are broken.
  • A foreign object has entered the fill valve.

4E1

  • The water that comes in during the drying mode is too hot (more than seventy degrees).
  • Error connecting hot and cold water (hoses need to be swapped).

4E2

  • When using delicate wash cycles, the water is hotter than necessary (more than fifty degrees).

Electrical related errors

9E1 and 9E2

  • Make sure the power supply voltage is normal. Use a multimeter to check the voltage during all washing machine operations.
  • The voltage in the power grid could also have increased beyond the required level.
  • Less often, this error appears when the control module breaks down.

Uc

  • The occurrence of this code means that the voltage has exceeded the permissible level or is below the required level. That is, it exceeds 286V or falls below 177V.
  • If the voltage returns to normal, the wash cycle will resume automatically. As a reminder, normal voltage values range from 177 to 286V.

Problems with the washing machine switch

bE1

  • The button is in a pressed position due to a change in the shape of the control panel.
  • The button is stuck. It has been pressed for more than 12 seconds.
  • This code may also occur if the screws securing the control panel are too tight.

bE2

  • The plastic parts of the panel are deformed.
  • The buttons, with the exception of the button responsible for turning the washing machine on and off, are pressed and remain in this position for more than half a minute.
  • The screws securing the control panel are too tight.

bE3

  • Incorrect connection of the control relay or damaged contact.
  • The same relay was short-circuited.

Malfunctions of the hatch locking device (HLD)

dE(door)

  • May occur after breaking down the hatch door.
  • Due to the curvature of the hook that secures the door.
  • This error may appear during boiling mode. This means a pressure drop has occurred inside the machine due to temperature differences.

dE1

  • The wire insulation may be damaged.
  • Malfunction of the UBL connector.
  • The UBL connector is not connected correctly.

dE2

  • This is far from the most common error. It occurs when the switch switches on and off and overheats from the oscillations.

Errors related to the heating element (TEN)

HE and HE1 (H1)

  • There is a short circuit or a break in the heating element.
  • The heating element or temperature sensor is broken
  • If there is no water in the tank or it is heated above one hundred degrees, then to prevent the heating element from breaking due to overheating, the machine automatically cuts off the power supply.

HE2

  • This occurs when the dryer heats up to more than 145 degrees Celsius. The dryer temperature sensor is responsible for monitoring this. If the sensor is faulty, it should be replaced.

HE3

  • The steam function of the washing machine is not working properly.
  • This shouldn't happen in machines with a drum. Find out if your washing machine has a steam function.

Errors related to the temperature sensor

tE1

  • A faulty heating element in the washing machine. This can also occur if the connection is poor or the temperature sensor is damaged.
  • The connectors are not connected correctly or there is a break in the wires.
  • There is no water in the machine tank or its temperature is above one hundred degrees.

tE2

  • Poor contact of the temperature sensor.
  • Short circuit or open circuit in the sensor.

tE3

  • Broken contact of the condensate flow temperature sensor.
  • Sensor short circuit.
  • Sensor connections are broken.

Other errors

5E - problems with water drainage

  • The drain pump impeller is damaged.
  • There is a blockage in the water drain hose.
  • The drainage system is clogged with debris.
  • Poor contact of the drain pump.
  • Failure of individual components.

8E - electric motor error

  • A malfunction of the tachometer sensor, which results in incorrect rotation of the drum.
  • Engine contacts broken.
  • Control circuit failures.

AE - communication problems

  • There is no data exchange between the control and display modules.
  • Make sure the connection between the modules is working properly and check if the connectors are connected correctly.
  • Change modules.

CE— the machine temperature is too high

  • The temperature is above 55 degrees and the drain does not occur.
  • This can happen when the water heats up above 55 degrees Celsius during certain modes. In this case, the water should be drained before the drain.
  • Incorrect operation of the temperature sensor or incorrect connection of various elements.

FE - ventilation problems

  • The fan wiring is damaged and it does not start.
  • The capacitor connector falls out due to the closing of the upper part of the washing machine body.
  • A faulty starting capacitor. Unfortunately, with this problem, you won't be able to find the cause with a multimeter. So, simply replace the capacitor.
  • The fan bearings are lacking lubrication or the blades are jammed. These problems prevent the fan from starting.

OE (OF) - a code that occurs when water overflows

  • The pressure switch tube (level relay) is clogged.
  • Water inlet cannot be stopped due to a foreign object getting into the inlet valve.
  • The pressure switch (level sensor) is broken.

EE – too high temperature (only for machines with drying)

  • The heating element circuits of the dryer have failed.
  • The drying temperature sensor is broken.
  • The connectors of this sensor or its circuits have become unusable.

UE – an imbalance has occurred

  • The laundry has piled up. In this case, you need to rearrange it.
  • Please read the instructions; they may indicate the causes of this malfunction and methods for eliminating it.

Sud (SUdS) - too much foam appeared during washing

  • Excessive foam is usually caused by using the wrong detergent for machine washing or by adding too much detergent. Once the foam settles, washing will resume. Once this error has cleared, you'll notice the display change to "End." Washing will then resume. This error is intended to alert you to a sensor error.

We decided to discuss some errors in detail in separate articles:

    • Gravatar Uncle Uncle:

If it actually says 2H and not H2, then this means that the wash will last another 2 hours.
