Gorenje washing machine error codes
Unfortunately, Gorenje washing machine error codes are not standardized. There are two groups of washing machine models, each with its own independent self-diagnostic system. This is inconvenient, because to decipher the error code displayed on their Gorenje washing machine, they first need to know which model group it belongs to, then find the error codes for that group, and only then will they be able to obtain reliable information about the specific error. We've decided to simplify this task by compiling all the necessary information in one article.
Combustion with control system PG1-PG5
In this section, we'll present Gorenje washing machine error codes one by one, first providing a brief explanation, then a detailed one. We'll also provide some of the causes of these errors.
F1. This code indicates an open circuit or short circuit in the temperature sensor's electrical circuit. This means either the wiring supplying the temperature sensor and connecting it to the electronic module and heating element has broken, or the contacts have burnt out.
Typically, this error appears immediately after the washing machine fills with water, just before washing.
F2. The control module is not receiving a signal to close the door. This means the Gorenje washing machine's control module is not receiving a control signal from the door locking device, which causes the module to generate an error and stop the washing program. In the vast majority of cases, this is caused by a faulty door locking device, but there may also be an open circuit between the door locking device and the control module.

F3. The required minimum water level was not filled after two attempts. This means the washing machine tried to fill the drum with the minimum amount of water for four minutes and failed. It then tried again, spending another four minutes, before the control module stopped trying and returned the F3 code. The most common causes are:
- low water pressure (lack of pressure);
- problems with the inlet valve (clogged, broken);
- in much rarer cases - a pressure switch.
F4. This error indicates a communication failure between the Hall sensor and the control module of your Gorenje washing machine. In this case, either the tachometer sensor has burned out, its contacts have been scorched, or there's a wiring break. It is also possible that there is a problem with the electronic module, which cannot recognize the signal from the Hall sensor. The error occurs three minutes after the signal from the tachosensor is lost. After this, the machine stops running the wash cycle, fills the drum with cold water, then drains it, and then displays the F4 error code. In models with inverter motors, a similar error occurs with the inverter.
F5. Failure of the semiconductor element (triac) that controls the motor. In this case, the control board is unable to regulate the motor due to the corresponding semiconductor element. This can be caused by a short circuit or excessive motor heating. The same error occurs on models with an inverter motor.
F6. This error occurs if the water in the tank heats up too slowly or doesn't heat up at all. When the heating element is activated, the control module uses a temperature sensor to monitor the water temperature increase and compares it with the program's set values. If the values differ by more than 150After completing the wash cycle, the washing machine displays error code F6. This error is unique in that the washing machine will always complete the wash, rinse, and spin cycles before displaying the error code. Possible causes:
- the temperature sensor is faulty;
- the heating element burned out;
- The electronic module is faulty.

F7. This code appears if the washing machine is unable to pump out wastewater and its level does not drop below the "minimum" mark. The water level in the drum may not drop at all, or it may drop very slowly. Unlike other brands, Gorenje repeats the draining process; if this fails, error F7 is generated. Error F7 can be caused by:
- pump malfunction or serious blockage;
- clogged waste filter;
- drain pump power failure;
- the pressure switch is out of order;
- The control module is broken.
F8. This error indicates a lower drum rotation speed than the spin program. In other words, if the module detects that the drum is rotating at a speed below 100 rpm during the spin cycle, F8 will be displayed. Under normal conditions, the machine does not display such an error; it can only be detected during a service test. Why does this error occur? The motor has burned out, the electronic module has failed, the inverter has broken (for certain machine models), or the drive belt has become loose.
F9. This error occurs in Gorenje washing machines equipped with the Aqua Stop system and indicates that water has entered the washing machine's tray. These machines have a special tray equipped with a leak detection sensor. If the Gorenje machine's drum or hose starts to leak, water will inevitably enter the tray, the leak detection sensor will be activated, and the washing machine will stop.
At the same time, the Aqua Stop system switches off the heating element and urgently drains water from the machine’s tank.
Gorenje WA 101, 121, 132, 162, 162P
Now, let's list and decipher the diagnostic codes for Gorenje washing machines WA 101, 121, 132, 162, and 162P. Please note that the codes and their meanings differ significantly from the system described above, so please be careful.
F1. We won't describe this error code, as we've already covered it in the previous section. Its decoding is exactly the same.
F2. The washing machine failed to fill the drum with the minimum amount of water within 8 minutes. During this time, the Gorenje washing machine makes two attempts to fill the drum with water. If this fails, the F2 code appears. There could be many possible causes for this problem:
- the filter mesh installed in front of the fill valve is clogged;
- there is no water in the water supply;
- water pressure is too low;
- the fill valve does not work;
- The pressure switch is out of order.

F31. No communication between the tachometer sensor and the control module. If the connection between the Hall sensor and the electronic module is interrupted, the system immediately stops the engine. The module attempts to restart the engine twice within 4 minutes, and if communication is not established, the F31 code is displayed. This error can be caused by a faulty Hall sensor, electrical connections to it, or the control module itself.
F32. Electronic motor controller is faulty. Some Gorenje washing machine models are equipped with a special electronic unit that regulates the motor. If it burns out, this error will occur.
F4. The temperature sensor has detected a discrepancy between the actual water temperature in the drum and the value set in the program. If the heating element does not heat the water in the drum to the required temperature within the specified time, the F4 code is displayed at the end of the wash program. The permissible error is +/- 15°C.0C. Causes: Heating element or control module.
F41. The temperature sensor has detected severe overheating of the water in the drum. In this case, the heating element heats the water in the drum to the maximum temperature, even if this is not required by the wash program. To prevent overheating and damage to the heating element, the system urgently shuts it down, and error F41 is displayed. The cause is most likely a semiconductor element (relay) in the control module.
Some attribute this code to a faulty temperature sensor. This approach is often incorrect, as it is the temperature sensor that detects overheating in this case. However, in very rare cases, the temperature sensor is at fault.
F43. The heating element heats up too quickly. In this case, the system immediately stops the wash program and, consequently, the heating element to prevent component failure and a possible fire. This can occur if the electronic module activates the heating element when there is too little water in the tank or no water at all. Causes: faulty pressure switch, leaking tank, broken control module.
F5. This error can be seen if the Gorenje washing machine fails to completely drain the water from the drum after two attempts within four minutes. After this, the user can press the program start button, and the machine will try again. If this attempt is also unsuccessful, the washing machine will freeze permanently. What could have happened?
- The pump broke down and became clogged.
- The pump power supply is interrupted.
- The waste filter, drain pipe or hose is heavily clogged.
- The pressure switch tube is clogged or simply burned out. It's also possible that the wiring supplying the water level sensor or the corresponding contacts are damaged.
- In rare cases, the electronic controller is to blame.

F61. The drum rotates too slowly during spinning. To clarify the error code, it's important to note that before the module displays the F61 code, it must detect a drum speed discrepancy of at least 100 rpm. This requires running a service test. This error will not appear during normal washing machine operation. Causes: faulty motor, control module, or loose drive belt.
F63. The electronic unit that controls the engine cannot communicate with the control module. The code appears immediately after the malfunction occurs. Reasons: malfunction of the electronic unit, its electrical communications or control module.
Troubleshooting options
We've covered error codes, their meanings, and their interpretations. Now, let's briefly discuss how to troubleshoot these errors. For ease of reference, we'll list the components and modules of Gorenje machines described above and explain how to repair them.
- Temperature sensor. The temperature sensor in Gorenje washing machines is located directly in the heating element housing between its left contact and the central bolt. To check it, set the multimeter to test resistance, disconnect the wires, and take measurements. A burned-out sensor cannot be repaired and must be replaced. The temperature sensor wiring is checked in the same way.
- Sunroof locking device. Unlike a thermal sensor, a sunroof locking device can sometimes be repaired or simply replaced. You can read about the best way to do this in this article. Washing Machine Door Lock – How to Replace the Door Lock?

- Inlet valve. The inlet valve regulates the flow of water into the washing machine. If it fails, the machine either cannot fill with water or, conversely, cannot shut off the water. The inlet valve can be accessed by removing the top cover of the washing machine, but first, you need to clean its filter. The filter is located at the base of the washing machine, where the inlet hose connects. It can be removed with regular pliers and rinsed under running water. The inlet valve itself can be tested with a multimeter.
- Water level sensor. The pressure switch on a Gorenje washing machine is also easy to access. It's located at the top of the rear wall of the machine, just under the top cover. Repair of the pressure switch should begin with cleaning its tubes, then you can check its resistance with a multimeter. Only after this are the electrical communications leading to this part checked.
In order not to overload this article with information, we decided to interrupt the description of repair options for various modules of the Gorenje washing machine, especially since we have already done this earlier in the article Washing machine repair Gorenje DIYIt includes repair instructions for all relevant components, meaning you can easily find how to fix any system error. However, keep in mind that in some cases, it's best to entrust the repair to a professional to avoid further damage to your "home assistant." Good luck!

E3 and it beeps. What is that?
My "Goryusha" is 13 years old and I haven't found a decent replacement yet. I've replaced the motor brushes twice, and it returned an F4 error, and the heating element once. I also got an F6 error, and the heating element died at the same time. I ran the programs until the circuit breaker tripped, and then the board burned out—that was entirely my fault! I just needed to replace the heating element in time! But I've been lucky with the repairmen; it's still working! After another 13 years of active use, one of the hinges on the door started to sag—the repairman said someone "sat on it"—perhaps they accidentally touched the door because I "ventilate" the drum overnight. The pump also died for the first time in 13 years. The machine didn't report any errors, but water was leaking from the laundry at the end of the wash cycle. When I last changed the motor brushes, the mechanic said something on the motor was badly worn due to an incorrect previous brush change, and the motor wouldn't be suitable for the next repair. I only want a Gorenje! Could you please advise which one is better, the one with an inverter or a conventional motor? I do 3 to 7 washes every day.
