Zanussi washing machine error codes

Zanussi washing machineZanussi washing machines can inform the user about malfunctions thanks to programmed codes. Machines with displays make it easier to understand what's wrong and where to look for the cause, as the letters and numbers displayed on the screen are usually explained in the instructions. Simply find the code and read it. Automatic machines without displays can also identify the code and the malfunction. We'll explain how to do this in this article, as well as decipher all possible errors.

Water Fill and Drain Error Codes

E11 – The machine's tank is not filling with water, or the water is filling very slowly. The following are possible causes of this error:

  • the filling valve is not working or there is a breakdown in its electrical system;
  • the fill valve winding has burned out (normal resistance is 3.75 kOhm);
  • blockage of the filling system or insufficient water pressure in the water supply system.

E13 – water leaks into the bottom of the machine.

E21 – Waste water isn't draining from the drum after washing. Check this:

  • drain system for blockages;
  • pump winding, normally the resistance is 170 Ohm;
  • electronic board.

Please note! In some Zanussi automatic washing machines, error E21 is similar to error E20. Error E20 stands for drainage system failure.

E22 – condensate is not removed during the drying process.

E23 – the semiconductor element (triac) that controls the pump operation has burned out. Replace either the triac or the board.

E24 – the track from the triac that controls the pump has burned out.

EC1 – the filling valve is blocked.

EF1 – the drain filter is clogged, the hose is clogged, the water drain waiting time has expired.

Engine related fault codes

E51 – poor contact of the electric motor thyristor.

E52 – no information is sent from the engine tachometer to the electronic board. Most often in such situations, the washer that holds the tachometer sensor flies off.

E53 – the circuit on the electronic board that controls the electric motor thyristor is interrupted.

E54 – the relay contacts that provide the electric motor reversal are stuck together.

E55 – engine electrical circuit is broken.

E56 – the tachometer signal does not appear for a long time.

E57 – the system current is more than 15A, the cause is a motor or electronic board failure.

E58 — the phase current of the electric motor is greater than 4.5A, the cause is a breakdown of the motor or electronic board.

E59 – No signal from the tachometer sensor for 3 seconds. This may indicate a wiring breakdown between the engine and the inverter element, or a breakdown of the inverter board.

EA3 – The DSP system does not lock the electric motor pulley. Check the following:

  • drive belt;
  • DSP system;
  • electrical wiring;
  • fee.

Water heating fault codes

  • E61 – the machine does not heat water to the selected temperature within the set time. If this error occurs, the resistance of the heating element is checked, which is 30 ohms.

Important! This washing machine error can only be viewed in diagnostic mode.

  • E62 – the water heats up very quickly and after 5 minutes has a temperature of almost 900C. In this situation, the heating element is checked for breakdown, the resistance of the heating element is measured, which under normal conditions varies from 5.7 to 6.3 ohms.
  • E66, E3A – heating element relay failure.
  • E68 – the grounding in the heating element circuit has tripped.
  • E69 – the heating element does not work.

Sensor related fault codes

E31 – The water pressure switch is broken. This error requires replacing the wiring or the switch itself.

E32 – frequency fluctuations in the water pressure sensor. This is most often caused by:

  • shut-off water supply;
  • malfunctions of the filling valve;
  • drainage filter clogged with debris;
  • broken water level sensor tube;
  • faulty pressure switch.

E33 – The sensor that detects the amount of water and the sensor that prevents the heating element from turning on dry are out of sync. The following must be checked:

  • performance of sensors;
  • serviceability of the tubes;
  • voltage leakage to ground;
  • Is the voltage in the network exceeded?

E34 – this error appears for about a minute and indicates that the anti-boil sensor and pressure switch are not working properly.

E35 – too much water has been poured into the tank, checking the pressure switch.

E36 – ABS heating element protection sensor does not work.

E37 – L1S sensor is not working.

E38 – the tube running from the tank to the pressure switch is clogged, so the pressure difference is not recorded.

E39 – the HV1S water overflow protection sensor does not work.

E44 – the sunroof closing sensor does not work.

E71 – the resistance of the temperature sensor does not meet the normal limits.

E74 – the temperature sensor is out of position.

EC2 – the sensor that detects water turbidity is not working.

Please note: Only the newest Zanussi models feature a sensor that detects water turbidity in the tank.

EF4 – no signal from the flow sensor when the fill valve is on. It is possible that there is no pressure in the water supply.

Other errors

  • E40 – the hatch door is not closed or the door lock does not work.

Please note! Code E40 is extremely rare; this problem is usually hidden behind other codes.

  • E41 – the drum door is not sealed tightly.
  • E42 – the hatch lock does not work, the part needs to be replaced.
  • E43 – the semiconductor element (triac) responsible for locking the door lock does not work.
  • E45 – parts of the drum door lock circuit triac are not working.
  • E5C – the voltage in the bus has increased to more than 430 V, the electronic module needs to be replaced.
  • E5D – No message transmission between the control module and the inverter. There is a fault in the components or wiring.
  • E5E, E98 – no data transfer between the inverter and the system board.
  • E5F – inverter board error, engine does not start.
  • E82 – defect in the operation of the toggle switch when selecting a position.
  • E83 – this error appears only in diagnostic mode and indicates a selector malfunction when reading data.
  • E84 – recirculation pump recognition error.
  • E85 – the recirculation pump or thyristor is not working.
  • E91, E92 – error in the operation of the display board and the main unit.
  • E93 – Incorrect washing machine programming. This can be resolved by entering the correct programming code.
  • E94 - Incorrect washing mode settings.
  • E95 – problems in the connection between the microprocessor and RAM.
  • E96 – the machine’s control module is not compatible with the devices connected to it.
  • E97 – the position of the program selector does not correspond to the programmed mode.
  • E9A – the programs responsible for sound accompaniment do not work.
  • EA1, EA2, EA4, EA5 — errors indicating a failure in the DSP system.
  • EA6 – after half a minute there is no signal that the drum is spinning.
  • EB1, EH1 – the frequency in the power grid is exceeded.
  • EB2, EH2 – the voltage value in the electrical network exceeds the norm.
  • EB3, EH3 – the voltage value in the electrical network is too low.
  • EBE, EBF, EHE, EHF – the relay in the protection circuit does not work.
  • EF2 – increased foaming, drain hose clogged with debris or filter clogged.
  • EF3 – Aqua Stop protection has been triggered, there is a leak inside the washing machine.
  • EF5 – laundry is not spun, items in the drum are unbalanced.

How to decipher blinking indicators?

In Zanussi washing machines without a display, error detection is performed using indicators, such as the Zanussi aquacycle 1000. However, even displayless control panels can vary in design and number of indicators. How can you use these indicators to identify the error code and determine the cause? Let's look at several control modules as an example.

Zanussi Aquacycle 1006If your washing machine is equipped with an EWM 1000 module, fault codes are identified by the blinking of two lights (indicators): the start/pause indicator and the program end indicator. The lights blink fairly quickly, for 0.4 seconds, with a pause of 2.5 seconds between each blink, which is also short. This makes it difficult to accurately identify the error.

The number of flashes of the program end indicator shows the first digit of the code, and the number of flashes of the start indicator shows the second digit of the code. For example, if the program indicator flashes 4 times, and the start indicator flashes 3 times, the error code is E43, as described above. An example of a washing machine based on the EWM 1000 module is the Zanussi aquacycle 1006.

Please note! In all cases, the letter E is added before the numbers to obtain the full error code.

Zanussi Aquacycle 1000If the washing machine is equipped with the EWM2000 module, the codes are identified by the eight LED lights on the control panel, for example, in the Zanussi Aquacycle 1000 and Zanussi Aquacycle 900 washing machines. The eight indicator lights are located on the right side of the machine's control panel; the top four lights indicate the first digit of the code, and the bottom four indicate the second. The number of simultaneously illuminated lights is the binary error code; to convert it to the familiar decimal code, use the table.

Indicator lights in a Zanussi washing machine

Proceed as follows: for example, if two bulbs, #4 and #2, are lit in the top group, and bulbs #1 and #2 are lit in the bottom group, as shown in the figure. We look for this correspondence in the table: the top bulbs are code A, and the bottom ones are code 3, resulting in error EA3. If bulb #3 is lit in the top group and #1 is lit in the bottom group, this corresponds to error code E41.

Important! Light bulbs are numbered from bottom to top.

So, deciphering error codes for Zanussi washing machines can be challenging. We hope the information we've provided will help you overcome this challenge and facilitate troubleshooting.

    Excellent article! Thank you so much. The other day, my Zanussi Aquacycle 1000 FE1024N washing machine stopped working. Since the machine doesn't have a display, I had to read the error code using the indicators and then decipher it using the algorithm provided in the article. I read the error code as E43. It turned out the lock was the culprit. After removing and repairing the lock, the machine started up again and is now washing successfully. Thanks again for the article! All the best!
