This is especially true if the kitchen was prefabricated and the dishwasher was purchased later, and its exact dimensions weren't verified. This means the dishwasher won't fit under the countertop, and there's simply no option for installing it separately. The question arises: how to remove the top cover of a Bosch or any other dishwasher? We'll try to answer it.

Why remove the top cover of the dishwasher?

When people talk about removing the top cover, they're talking about freestanding dishwashers, as built-in appliances lack a top cover. Removing the top cover on these dishwashers is most often necessary when choosing a dishwasher spontaneously. Freestanding dishwashers are 85 cm high, and the standard kitchen countertop height, given the thickness of the material (3 cm), is also 85 cm. As a result, the dishwasher doesn't fit under the countertop, which is absolutely necessary.

In this case, the option to remove the top cover from the dishwasher comes to mind. However, not all dishwashers have removable top covers. There are models where this is not possible.. Therefore, we need to take it seriously. choosing a dishwasher, and clarify such issues, and even better, if you want to install appliances, get a built-in dishwasher, specially designed for this.

Note: If the countertop is too low, you may want to consider a minor kitchen upgrade, such as raising the height of the cabinet legs or replacing the console with a taller one.

Removing the lid lowers the machine by 2.5-3 cm, allowing it to be placed under a countertop. However, some experts argue that this isn't entirely safe, and that the machine's interior should be insulated from moisture to prevent damage or electric shock.

Removing the lid of a Bosch and Whirlpool dishwasher

Removing the lid on a Bosch dishwasher is quite simple. To do this, turn the dishwasher over so the back is facing you. You'll see latches on the sides at the top that need to be pressed.

If you can't do this by hand, you can use a screwdriver for convenience, but you need to do this carefully so as not to break the plastic elements.

Once the latches are released, pull the lid forward out of the retaining slots. If you're standing at the door of a Bosch dishwasher, pull it toward you.

The lid of Whirlpool dishwashers is removed in exactly the same way; they also have latches that hold the lid in place.

Removing the lid of an Indesit and Hotpoint Ariston dishwasher

Removing the top cover on freestanding Indesit or Hotpoint Ariston dishwashers is not much different. Access the back of the dishwasher, where you'll see two mounting screws along the top edge. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws and pull the cover away from you.

Important! If the manufacturer allows you to remove the lid on your dishwasher, removing the lid will not affect the warranty period or service. Otherwise, the warranty will be voided.

In general, many people don't even bother removing the top cover of a Bosch dishwasher, as the latches or mounting screws are readily visible. If they aren't, it's likely that the freestanding dishwasher doesn't have a removable cover. Therefore, it must be installed under the countertop together with the lid, taking into account the height of the machine. We hope that our article has answered your question.

The Bosch Sportline dishwasher's lid comes off from the front! There are two catches underneath the lid. Simply press them, and it comes off easily.
