Where to place the dryer?

Modern appliances are less demanding on utilities than older models, so a dryer can be placed almost anywhere. While there are far more placement options in an apartment or house than with a washing machine, experts recommend against placing them in separate rooms. Furthermore, placing a dryer and washing machine close together saves time, as it's easy to transfer laundry from one drum to the other without any unnecessary movement. Let's figure out where it's best to place a dryer, and where it shouldn't be.

Drying rooms and options for their placement

Condenser dryers do not require connection to a water supply or sewer system. They can be installed anywhere there's an electrical outlet. Grounding and a separate circuit breaker are essential. This is because the line experiences significant stress from the drying process, and in the event of an emergency, the power must be cut off by a circuit breaker.

Avoid installing your dryer in very small, unventilated spaces. Most models generate a lot of heat during operation. If the heat can't escape, it will affect the dryer body and surrounding objects. As a general rule, the dryer should be placed in a relatively spacious room, at least 2 by 2 meters.

There are different ways to install the device.

• In a row (line). The washer and dryer are placed side by side if the conditions are suitable and the space is spacious enough. This option is suitable for the kitchen, hallway, bathroom, or closet. This option is considered very practical, as the top surfaces of the units provide useful space that can be utilized effectively. For example, you can mount a shelf or cabinet above them.

• In a column (vertical). This arrangement involves stacking appliances on top of each other. The washing machine (which is always heavier) should be placed at the bottom, and the dryer at the top. Prevent the appliance from slipping and falling. Take all possible precautions to secure the unit; simply placing the dryer on a level surface is not enough. If you don't have experience with this, it's best to contact a professional technician. The washing machine's body is fitted with special fasteners and caps to which the dryer is attached. The structure must be as stable as possible.

Why is a tumble dryer better than a washing machine with a drying function?

If your apartment or house is spacious enough and has the space, it's best to purchase two units. This will allow you to maximize the capabilities of both your washer and dryer. Installing a separate dryer has many advantages, which are worth exploring in more detail.

Firstly, hybrid models hold significantly less laundry than a standalone dryer. The maximum load capacity of 2-in-1 automatic dryers is 2-3 kg less than that of a washing machine. If you have a separate dryer in your home, you can immediately move all your washed items into it and dry them. This is not only convenient, but also saves the user a lot of time.

Stand-alone dryers always have a large drum. Even budget models (for example, the Indesit YT CM08 8B for $310) can hold at least 8 kg of laundry. This is not to mention premium models, which can hold 10 kg or more of laundry.

The above maximum load is calculated for cotton, which is lighter than other materials. If you're drying jeans or items made from synthetic or blended fabrics, you'll need to load a few kilograms less. However, even in this case, a hybrid dryer will hold significantly less than a traditional dryer.

Secondly, the most important advantage of stand-alone tumble dryers is their wide range of programs. Even inexpensive models will have more drying modes than combined dryers. This significantly simplifies textile care.

Important! Modern dryers allow you to select programs designed for specific types of materials and items: cotton, wool, outerwear, synthetics, shoes, etc.

Some manufacturers offer additional settings, such as "easy iron," "express," and "iron dry." Some dryers ventilate clothes, eliminating tobacco, food, and smoke odors. Some models even use steam to refresh laundry stored deep in the closet.

There's another undeniable advantage of stationary machines over hybrid ones. Dry clothes won't wrinkle, as most models feature a wrinkle prevention feature. Even with intensive spinning, your clothes won't become creased.

Many washing machines have a delicate drying mode. When activated, the drum rotates very slowly and gently, preventing excessive twirling of the laundry. This feature allows less demanding homeowners who don't place high demands on ironing quality to save a significant amount of time and effort.
