New detergents, such as liquid or gel detergents, capsules, and tablets, are appearing on the household chemicals market as alternatives to regular dry detergent. Liquid detergents deserve special attention, as they offer a number of advantages over their dry counterparts. However, many people still hesitate to buy a new laundry detergent simply because they don't know how to use it properly, how much to use, and where to pour it. We decided to write an article about detailed instructions for using liquid detergents.
Instructions for use
Liquid laundry detergent is a gel-like concentrated laundry detergent that contains not only substances that remove stains, but also substances that soften water and soften fabrics.
On the bottles of these detergents, the manufacturer specifies how much detergent to use per wash cycle, depending on the soiling level and water hardness. Typically, this is 75-150 ml of detergent. However, with this amount of detergent, you can use only one detergent, which is beneficial for the manufacturer. Therefore, you shouldn't rely on the information on the label.
Experienced housewives have found out that for effective washing of things with gel-like powder, 1-2 tablespoons of concentrated laundry detergent is enough. If you have particularly dirty items of clothing, you can pre-treat them with the detergent and let them sit. This amount of detergent applies to washing machines with an average load of 5-6 kg and a water consumption of 35-50 liters. For machines with a larger drum capacity and water consumption, when fully loaded, you may need 3-4 tablespoons of the product.
As for where to pour the detergent, it's difficult to give a definitive answer. Everything will depend on the model and manufacturer of the automatic washing machine. In most washing machines, the detergent drawer is divided into three compartments, one of which is for the dry detergent used in the main wash, designated II or B. This is the compartment where you should pour the liquid detergent.
But in some automatic machines, the manufacturer prohibits pouring gel-like product into this compartment. That's why it's important to read your machine's operating instructions before pouring it in. In such cases, the laundry gel is poured into a special container, which is then placed in the drum along with the laundry.
In modern machines, the detergent drawer has a special device that allows liquid detergent to be poured into the drawer compartment. Top-loading machines may have a special flap in the liquid detergent compartment.

Let's look at the different designs of powder drawers in different washing machines.
The ELECTROLUX EWW51486HW is a washing machine with the most common three-compartment drawer design. The instructions for this machine state that if the main wash compartment (located in the center of this machine) lacks a special flap, liquid detergent should be poured into the dispenser and placed directly into the drum. 
The Bosch wot24455oe is a top-loading automatic washing machine with a three-compartment detergent drawer. Compartment II is for liquid and dry detergents, as well as water softener. You can also add stain-removing salt here.
The Samsung WF1602YQR is a front-loading washing machine with eco bubble technology. The detergent dispenser is divided into three compartments, the leftmost of which is for powdered detergent, but only dry detergent. It is recommended to pour all gel detergents into the dispenser (container) and add them to the drum with the laundry.
The Hotpoint Ariston AVSL-109 is an automatic washing machine with a semicircular detergent drawer. According to the machine's instructions, the rightmost compartment is for dry and liquid detergents for the main wash. However, the manufacturer notes that liquid detergent should be added immediately before starting the machine.
The ATLANT СМА 35М101 is a front-loading washing machine. In addition to its three main compartments, the washing machine also features a dedicated bleach compartment. When using gel detergent, a special flap is installed in the left compartment, as shown in the picture.
Miele wmg120wps is a high-tech washing machine with a special powder drawer design. The detergent dosage in this machine is automatic.This means the machine automatically dispenses the amount of detergent determined by the program, depending on the soiling level and the load. Furthermore, the machine's dispenser has a capsule compartment that can hold one of three types of capsules, including a detergent capsule. These are special capsules made by the manufacturer specifically for this type of machine. Each capsule contains just the amount of detergent needed for one wash cycle. At the end of the cycle, the capsule must be removed.
Liquid powders: pros and cons
Liquid laundry detergents are becoming increasingly popular, as homemakers report numerous benefits. Here are some:
- This type of powder rinses out of clothes better than dry powder and does not leave marks on clothing, which is why it is recommended for washing bulky items, outerwear, and woolen items;
- Liquid detergent dissolves faster in water and penetrates fabric fibers better, ensuring effective washing;
- liquid powder is suitable for washing delicate fabrics;
- the bottle of washing gel is convenient to store, and it is hermetically sealed, so the chemical smells do not evaporate;
- The components of high-quality liquid powders are more environmentally friendly and safe, and such powders are less likely to cause allergies;
- Liquid powder is washed out of the powder receptacle better.
One of the disadvantages of liquid detergent is its high cost. However, this is subjective. Another drawback is that liquid detergent can only be washed at temperatures no higher than 60°C.0WITH.
So, when using laundry gels in an automatic washing machine, follow the washing machine's manual, not the instructions on the detergent itself. This may indicate not only where to pour the detergent but also how much to use.
