Bosch and Siemens dishwasher labeling

Bosch dishwasher markingsWhen choosing a Bosch or Siemens dishwasher, we inevitably encounter the full names of specific models, including the markings. But few people know what these markings are, and more importantly, what they mean for a specific Bosch or Siemens dishwasher model. The manufacturer usually provides the markings themselves, but they don't always bother to accurately translate them into Russian. In this article, we'll decipher the markings on Bosch and Siemens dishwashers and provide explanations.

Symbols of general dishwasher characteristics

To begin, we tried to find out how the markings on Bosch and Siemens dishwashers differ. It turned out that there are no significant differences; in 99% of cases, the marking characteristics are completely identical. That's why we've taken the liberty of summarizing the markings and presenting them in a standardized format. The main markings characterizing a specific Bosch or Siemens dishwasher model appear immediately after the brand name.

Bosch dishwasher markingsFor example, the Bosch SPS40E12RU dishwasher has the model number SPS40E12RU. First, it's important to understand the first three letters of this number from left to right, as these are the symbols for the dishwasher's general characteristics and contain the most important information.

The first element of the marking is the same in all cases, unless, of course, we're talking about a dishwasher and not a washing machine or other machine. If you're looking at a dishwasher, the marking will begin with the letter "S." More specifically, this element is the first letter of the word "Spoeler," which roughly translates as "machine designed for dishwashing."

The second element of the marking designation of specific models of Bosch or Siemens dishwashers tells us about their typology and generation. In this case, there are options and quite a few of them:

  • the element "R" denotes first generation 45 cm wide dishwashers;
  • The element "P" denotes dishwashers with a width of 45 cm of the second (last) generation;
  • The element "G" denotes standard 60 cm wide machines of the first generation;
  • the element "M" denotes 60 cm of the second generation dishwasher;

Please note! First-generation and second-generation dishwashers differ from each other in that they have more compact component arrangements and, often, modifications to these components.

  • The "B" element denotes a dishwasher whose height differs from the standard and is greater than 86 cm. The width of such machines is 60 cm, and they are classified as second-generation dishwashers.
  • The element "K" denotes non-standard tabletop models of second-generation dishwashers.

The third element of the marking tells us about the typology of a specific dishwasher model.

  1. The "S" element means that this Bosch and Siemens dishwasher model is not built-in.
  2. The element “I” means that the specified dishwasher model can be built-in.
  3. The “V” element indicates that the machine is completely built into the furniture.
  4. The “U” element means that this dishwasher model can be built-in and even has its own front.

Specification symbols

The fourth and fifth characters are the dishwasher model specification elements, indicating its features. The fourth character allows us to determine which program package is available for a specific Bosch and Siemens dishwasher model.

  • If there is a number 4, this means that this dishwasher model has only a basic set of programs.
  • If there is a number 5, it means that the dishwasher has a basic set of programs and additional functions.
  • If there is a number 6, it means that the dishwasher has an extended range of programs.

The fifth symbol tells us about the technical configuration of a specific dishwasher model. In this article we will not give specific examples, as you can read about them in another publication called Symbols on the dishwasher.

Model class

A model class is essentially a veiled designation of the price category into which the manufacturer believes a particular dishwasher model should fall. Bosch and Siemens dishwashers are classified into five categories (also known as classes).

  1. The lower price category is designated by the letter "E".
  2. The below average price category is designated by the letter "N".
  3. The average price category is the letter "M".
  4. The upper price category is “T”.
  5. Elite price category – “U”.

Please note! The manufacturer does not specify the specific price for models in the lower or upper price categories.

Don't confuse a dishwasher's model class with its energy efficiency class. This is a completely different system of designations, used to determine how energy-efficient a particular Bosch or Siemens dishwasher is. You can see the dishwasher energy efficiency classes in the image below.

Where is it produced and where is it supplied?

The last two characters of the marking indicate the territory in which the manufacturer plans to sell a given Bosch or Siemens dishwasher model. There are two main options: RU – means that a specific dishwasher model is planned to be sold in the Russian Federation, EU – means that the dishwasher is planned to be sold in the countries of the European Union.

Also of great importance are additional markings, usually found on the dishwasher's packaging or on its body. These markings tell us where the dishwasher was manufactured.

  • SAS, SLX, SLF – made in Germany.
  • SAE, SOR, SFX – made in Poland.
  • SFO – made in Turkey.
  • SOT – made in France.
  • SLM – made in China.

Please note! Markings indicating the dishwasher's origin may differ from those above if the dishwasher was manufactured before 2006.

In conclusion, after reading this article, you'll be able to decipher the markings on any Bosch or Siemens dishwasher. However, don't forget to also read the dishwasher specifications; they'll tell you much more about the machine you're interested in. Good luck!

    Spv69x10ru. Your description doesn't include the letter "x" and it's unclear what the number 10 means.

  10. Gravatar Marina Marina:

    Based on your descriptions, I was unable to decipher Bosch SMS44DW01T.
    Nothing works after SMS4. There are models where the fourth character is "2." Are they only two programs? For 50-70 thousand rubles?

  11. Gravatar Sergey Sergey:

    What do the last two digits after the fraction (…./09) mean?

  12. Gravatar Evgeniy Evgeny:

    Yes, the information isn't fully disclosed. Bosch SMV4HCX40E. I already knew it was a Series 4 dishwasher, but the HCX40E remains a mystery. E is probably made in Europe.
