All the indicators on the washing machine are flashing.

washing machine indicatorsWashing machines don't last forever, so they can break down at any time. Breakdowns and malfunctions can vary in severity, and the nature of such problems is indicated by error codes on the machine's display. When the display is off, special indicators may flash. But what if all the lights flash simultaneously when you turn it on, and what could this mean? That's what we'll explore.

What does it mean?

Blinking lights on a washing machine are a common problem with Indesit washing machines. Owners of these machines often turn to a technician, unsure what to do. What causes this blinking?

The most common malfunction, when all the lights blink, is a malfunction of the electronic board, or more precisely, a breakdown of its parts. Typically, capacitors located on the board fail, or contacts burn out when water gets on the board. Replacing the capacitors yourself is quite possible, especially if you're proficient with a soldering iron. In some cases, the entire board must be replaced, which is quite expensive.

Please note! Replacing capacitors can save you a significant amount of money, but proper diagnosis is key.

We find and fix the problem

To check and confirm the electronic board is faulty, it must be removed from the machine, which will require disassembly. Let's look at this process using an Indesit top-loading washing machine as an example.

The first thing we must not forget to do is to de-energize the washing machine. We begin disassembling the machine's body by unscrewing the control panel, which is attached with two bolts to the rear of the body.disassembling a washing machineAfter removing the control panel, unscrew the hex screws holding the electronic board.disassembling a washing machine

Note: In a front-loading Indesit washing machine, the control board is located in the lower corner at the rear of the machine.

Now carefully disconnect all the wires from the board. Before doing this, you can take a photo to make it easier to identify all the wires and reconnect them.Removing the circuit board in the washing machineWe take the board and carefully inspect it, paying particular attention to capacitors C17, C16, and C20. If a capacitor is damaged, the top portion may swell. washing machine board

Important! It's best to test the capacitors with a multimeter, as if one is dry, it won't work, even if it looks like a working capacitor.

capacitorRemove the faulty capacitor and look at its markings to find a similar one. You can buy a new one or remove a working capacitor from the circuit board of an old TV, USB charger, etc. Next, solder the working capacitor to the circuit board and reassemble the washing machine.

Note! Instead of the 680 mF capacitor C17, you can install a 1000 mF capacitor.

The entire process is filmed in more detail in this video.

Rare reasons for indicator lights flashing

However, the malfunction described isn't the only one that can cause all the machine's lights to flash. Technicians note a number of other causes. Although they're less common, they shouldn't be ruled out.

  1. It happened self-draining water.
  2. The water heating element or the drying element is broken.
  3. The electric motor has failed.
  4. Pump (drain pump) failure.
  5. The command apparatus (KSMA) failed.

Washing machine heating elements wear out and fail over time. Their failure can stop the washing machine from operating properly and cause the control panel lights to flicker. To determine the cause, use a multimeter to check the heating element's functionality and, if faulty, replace it. A detailed description of this procedure is provided in the article on How to check a washing machine's heating element.

Electric motor It doesn't fail often; its failure can be due to worn brushes, which, when replaced, can restore its functionality. A more common malfunction is a broken or clogged drain pump. Very often hair and wool get caught on the pump impeller, causing it to not work. In this case, it's enough to clean it of debris. If the damage is more serious, you'll have to replace the pump to a new one.

command apparatusAs for the breakdown of the mechanical control unit, this malfunction is very rare, since this part of the machine is one of the most reliable, but not eternal. Usually the contacts in the control apparatus burn out. To fix the problem, they need to be thoroughly cleaned and reconnected. The unit itself is located under the control panel, which is held in place by one or two bolts.

Additionally, a gear in the clutch control system may break. In this case, troubleshooting will depend on the washing machine model, as some washing machines require a complete replacement of the clutch control system, while others can be repaired.

So, flickering lights on your Indesit washing machine aren't a reason to say goodbye to the machine forever and look for a new replacement. After all, the cause of the indicator lights may be simple and require little financial investment. So before you panic and think that the machine is broken, run a diagnostic, we hope our article will help you do this.

When I turn it on and start it, it doesn't fill with water, but rather seems to be trying to wash, and after a second the water levels start flashing. What is this? How can I fix it? It's a vertical washing machine.

    • Gravatar Evgeniy Evgeny:

Most likely it is the heating element.

Hello! Has anyone else encountered the following problem? The washing machine was running normally, we removed the laundry (spinned as usual), loaded the next load, and after a while, tried to restart it. We saw the "iron" and "delay timer" lights were on, and the start button was constantly blinking. The door was open, not closed. The machine wouldn't start or respond. Plugging it in and out didn't help.

Hello, yesterday my Indesit washing machine started flashing all its lights… I blamed the capacitors. Upon disassembling it, I discovered it was due to the new brushes in the motor. The brushes were rectangular. While grinding them, graphite dust got into the control unit and shorted out the circuit board. After removing the dust, the machine started working normally. Maybe this advice will help someone.

Hello everyone. I have a recurring problem with my Indesit WISL92 washing machine. The power button doesn't respond at all. The power indicator light either blinks or stays on (during the wash cycle). The worst part is that the machine doesn't always start when I press the "Start" button. Sometimes I have to press it 8-10 times the first time. Just to be on the safe side. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

    • Gravatar Yaroslav Yaroslav:

Replace the button itself. The old one is broken and doesn't close.

My washing machine is a veteran. It's over 15 years old. It's refused to wash a few times. And each time, we've dealt with the problems ourselves. We've replaced the brushes, and there were problems with the circuit board. And today, when the machine started blinking, my husband wasn't home. I decided to try something myself. I unscrewed the plug at the bottom of the machine and drained the water. It turned out two buttons were stuck in the drain. I removed them, and the machine started. ))) Well, that happens.

  15. Gravatar Vladimir Vladimir:

Indesit Witl 86. All the buttons were blinking. I replaced the C16 and C17 buttons (they were swollen). Now the "delay timer," "stain removal," and "lock indicator" buttons are blinking. Any advice on what else I can do?

  31. Gravatar Igor Igor:

A month ago, all the lights were blinking, then after 20-30 seconds, they would turn on and work fine. We turned them on yesterday, and they're constantly blinking and won't go out.

  32. Gravatar Igor Igor:

Thanks for the advice, I replaced all four capacitors and everything worked. The cost was 27 rubles 50 kopecks.

  33. Gravatar Victor Victor:

Indesit washing machine. All the indicators are flashing. I took the capacitors apart and they weren't swollen. I didn't replace them. What else could be the cause? Thank you very much.

    • Gravatar Victor Victor:

Are there 5V and 12V readings? Unswollen capacitors don't mean they're working. Desolder them and check. The 22μF capacitor might have even dried out. The 400V rating will be similar.

  34. Gravatar Irina Irina:

Indesit Witl106 washing machine. We replaced the heating element, but almost all the indicators light up when I turn the machine on. Please tell me why. Thank you.
