Can I place a dishwasher next to a stove?
It's no secret that household appliances can interfere with each other if placed incorrectly. Some appliances fit perfectly next to each other, while others shouldn't be placed next to each other at all, and this is something to keep in mind when planning your kitchen. Today, we'll explore whether it's safe to place a dishwasher next to a stove, and briefly touch on the issue of dishwasher placement next to other appliances. Let's see what conclusions we can draw.
What are the risks of such placement?
People often place an electric stove and oven right next to the dishwasher. This is the most common mistake that can lead to dishwasher failure. The stove's overheating body transfers heat to the dishwasher, which is not designed for such extreme operating conditions. The electronic module suffers the most, potentially paralyzing all the machine's systems.
Another mistake is installing a gas stove next to a dishwasher. The cause is the same: overheating. Only in this case, the overheating will be even more severe. Also, do not place gas or electric hobs directly above the dishwasher body.
- In this case, heat from the hob will be transferred to the dishwasher body and damage the machine.
- Liquids "escaping" from pots onto the hob may fall onto the dishwasher body, which in turn can cause a short circuit in the control panel.
"Boiling over" milk or soup will end up in the dishwasher straight from the stove, forcing the housewife to clean not only the stove but also the dishwasher body.
- Two powerful electrical appliances stacked on top of each other can cause major problems. If a current leak occurs on the stove or dishwasher, the problem could destroy both appliances because their casings are touching.
In general, if possible, it's best to keep electric and gas stoves away from dishwashers. The key phrase is "if possible." If that's not possible because the kitchen is too small, you'll have to come up with something else.
If there is no choice
In small kitchens, it's often necessary to place an electric stove next to a dishwasher, contrary to all regulations, because there's simply no other option. In such situations, experts recommend leaving at least a 1 cm gap between the dishwasher and the stovetop. Placing insulating material between the appliances is even better. By reliably insulating the side walls of your kitchen appliances, you ensure the safe operation of both appliances.
However, placing cooktops above dishwashers is strictly prohibited. It's simply dangerous, even if the appliances are insulated.
Bad neighbors for a dishwasher
We determined that the minimum distance between the stove and dishwasher should be 1 cm. However, this requires the use of thermal insulation. Without insulation, the distance between the units should not be less than 5 cm.
It's not just the stovetop that can potentially damage a dishwasher. If you stack a dishwasher with a washing machine, you can say goodbye to the former in the next few months. The problem is that during the spin cycle, the washing machine vibrates and rocks intensely. If pressed tightly against it, the dishwasher's frame will also begin to rock, leading to damage to internal components, ruptured hoses, and much more. And if dishes are loaded into the dishwasher baskets while the washing machine is running, they will all break.
The proximity to the refrigerator can also be harmful, especially with a No Frost refrigerator. The walls of such refrigerators can become quite hot and transfer heat to the dishwasher's body. We've already discussed the consequences of this.
Some not very insightful owners put a microwave oven on top of a freestanding dishwasher, and then come to our specialists and complain: why is this the dishwasher won't turn onIt's fortunate that it worked for any length of time despite such proximity, as microwaves can burn out an electronic module in just a few minutes.
It's best not to place a microwave on top of any other appliance, and generally maintain at least 15-20 cm of distance between it and any other household appliance. Only then can their combined use be considered safe.
So, by placing a stove next to a dishwasher, the owner shouldn't expect a "neighborly relationship" between these two appliances. The stove could easily damage the dishwasher, and vice versa, the dishwasher could easily damage the stove. Therefore, observe safety precautions and avoid placing the stove and dishwasher too close together. Good luck!
