Which washing machines are more reliable?
The automatic washing machine has long since become a fixture in our everyday lives, occupying a position of near-universal importance among other household appliances. Almost every homeowner begins their home improvement with the purchase of a washing machine. And everyone dreams of its durability, efficiency, impeccable design, and high quality.
So, the most reliable washing machine is everyone’s dream. But how can we make this dream come true?
The first thing you need to do to solve this problem is to figure out which washing machines are the most reliable?
To do this, you will need to analyze the most popular offers in this market segment, customer reviews, take into account your own life experience and the practical experience of specialists and repairmen who service washing machines.
Let's try to understand some aspects of the problem of choosing the right washing machine.
Manufacturer: comparative rating
Choosing a washing machine manufacturer plays a crucial role for many buyers. And the first thing a buyer notices is the brand of washing machine on display.
Information about the manufacturer will help you make some initial assumptions about the product's quality, service life, and maintenance requirements. And in most cases, these assumptions will prove correct.
A modern washing machine is a fairly complex electronic-mechanical unit, so when choosing one, it's best to rely on manufacturers who have already established a positive reputation for producing electrical appliances and software-based equipment.
Russian market
The Russian market today offers a wide range of washing machine brands, not only from Russia, but also from Germany, Italy, South Korea, America, and Turkey.
- Among German brands, these are SIEMENS, BOCH, and AEG washing machines. Among Italian brands, these are ARDO, INDESIT, and ZANUSSI units.
- Among the American ones are FRIGIDAIRE and WHIRLPOOL machines.
- Among the South Korean models are SAMSUNG and LG.
- Among Turkish ones: VESTEL. Among domestic ones: Vyatka-avtomat and EVGO.
- European companies such as REESON, GORENJE, ASKO, and ELECTROLUX have also gained popularity.
It's quite difficult to give a definitive answer as to which brand of washing machine is better. Almost every one has its pros and cons. It's up to the buyer to decide what they're willing to live with and what they absolutely won't. When choosing a model, consider both your needs and your budget.
If you have limited funds to purchase an automatic machine within the range of 300-350 dollars, you should opt for budget-level models.
Washing machines from ARISTON, SAMSUNG, LG, INDESIT, ARDO, BEKO, and CANDY are perfectly acceptable budget options. These models will provide trouble-free, flawless service for 4-5 years.
Their affordable prices are due to the use of cheaper materials for the production of mechanisms, simple software, automated assembly, and inexpensive labor.
Products from Korean companies LG and SAMSUNG deserve special attention in this category. These companies are constantly working to improve the quality and add new features to their models. Few buyers are not attracted by the price of BEKO products. These units are quite affordable and of good quality.
If you're looking for the most reliable washing machine under $650, consider brands that invest more in their models. These include BOCH, GORENJE, SIEMENS, ZANUSSI, KAISER, ELECTROLUX, and WHIRLPOOL. Their products are equipped with higher-quality, more durable components and durable, modern software. These machines offer a wide range of programs, are easy to use, and offer superior wash results.
It should be noted that almost every model from these manufacturers has its own unique feature that sets them apart from others. For example, GORENJE has a shower system for wetting laundry, while ELECTROLUX has a voice menu and a remote control.
Washing machines from these companies usually serve for 5-6 years without problems.
If you have no budget constraints for a washing machine, you can safely consider expensive models from AMANA, MIELE, FRIGIDAIRE, and AEG. Their quality has been proven over many years and is unquestionable today. These options are often recommended as the most reliable, durable, and high-quality.
They are manufactured using hand assembly and the most stringent electronic controls. The service life of this type of equipment typically exceeds 15-20 years. These models feature high levels of noise insulation, leak protection, a wide range of programs, and versatility. They minimize human intervention during the washing process, operate completely silently, and are easy to maintain.

Dimensions, sizes, types, loading volumes: which ones to choose
It's important to remember that only owners of large spaces can afford large washing machines. Otherwise, carefully consider the available space when choosing a washing machine.
The modern market offers a wide selection of compact washing machines, including so-called "mini" machines. It's worth noting that while these machines are inferior to their larger counterparts in terms of load capacity, they are in no way inferior in terms of wash quality. This makes them often an ideal choice for small spaces.
There are two types of loading: vertical and horizontal. Front-loading is the most popular option among customers. It allows the machine to be positioned harmoniously among other interior items, and its top can be used as a countertop or additional shelf. The advantages of top-loading include the ability to add laundry or detergent even after the wash cycle has started. Simply open the top lid.
Pay due attention to the load capacity. For frequent and large loads, it's best to choose a model with the largest possible load capacity.
When choosing a reliable washing machine, consider its energy efficiency class, spin cycle, noise, and vibration ratings. Ideally, these ratings should be as close to Class A as possible.

The information in this article is very general, familiar to everyone, without much practical application. I would have liked to see information about drive types, as well as a revealing overview of brands and manufacturers, to better guide my choice. It's well known that durability and trouble-free operation are significantly dependent on build quality—so I would have appreciated information on specific manufacturers, such as "this particular build from this brand will work, but another build won't." Thank you.
By coincidence, I buy imported top-loading washing machines. Russian-made ones are noisy. I power the machine through a voltage stabilizer because the voltage fluctuates and the electronic control unit breaks down. I wash every day. Electrolux.
Electrolux is a powerhouse. Mine lasted 16 years and finally gave up in 2012. It was good. The question is how they assemble it now.
Don't buy an Indesit! We bought one in 2011 for a pretty penny. It rusted very quickly, but it worked flawlessly for six years.
My Indesit died today. It worked for 25 years!!!
I agree with the last comment – don't buy an Indesit!!! It's broken 5 times in 6 years of use!!!! Something kept popping off and it rusted after 3 years.
I had an Indesit for 10 years—it's a great machine! And it never broke down...
Don't buy a new Electrolux. It worked for five years, the bearing failed, and the tank is non-removable. You'll have to throw it out, as buying a new tank isn't cost-effective. What's more, the entire body is rusted. It's simply rubbish, and you can't compare it to the machines sold 15 years ago.
I completely agree. Ours was ruined in 3.5 years, with the paint peeling off the lid in chunks before it was finally destroyed by a bearing.
You won't believe it, but my Indesit served me faithfully for 19 years. It's an older model.
I believe it. More than 20 years... Today is a day of mourning :(
Of course, it was assembled in Italy, my Indesit also worked for 19 years...
I bought an Indesit 663W in 1995. Made in Italy. Today, the drum bearing failed. It's no problem to replace, as the drum is detachable and enameled. Replace it and we'll keep going!
Indesit WISL 85 EX was purchased in 2007. The heating element was replaced four years later. This year, the belt broke due to play in the shaft. The tank is not collapsible, so it was sent to the landfill.
I've had Gorenje for over 20 years, without any frills...
Electrolux EWS 1046, bought in 2001... Works like a charm (knock on wood)! It started whistling during the spin cycle, but that's all... I love it dearly.
Check the brushes on the motor
I bought an Electrolux top-loader in 2006, and the water pump motor failed two years later. In early 2017, the drum racks broke, and the electronics are acting up terribly!
Bosch washing machine. After 5 years of use, a bearing failed after 3 months, and the half-tank was replaced under warranty. After 3 years, the bearings started making noise again, then fell apart.
And yet they say this is one of the best brands! Total sham. It's a money-making machine for the service department; they'll always have money. But for the customer, it's nothing but problems and expenses.
Yesterday I started my Indesit for the first time after repairs. I replaced the bearing myself. The drum is non-detachable, so I had to cut it, repair it, and put it back together. A mountain of laundry had accumulated while the machine was idle, but it's been running for almost a day now, and the test is passing. Savings of about $45.
I have had an Italian-made Candy for 21 years now; it was purchased in September 1996.
Today my Atlas died, 10 years of work not without problems!
I've had an Italian-made Candy for 20 years now. But it's time for a replacement. China and Russia are all around.
I had an Italian-made Ardo for 19 years. I think it would have lasted longer, but the door seal broke. The mechanics said they don't make them like that anymore, and another seal wouldn't work. So, my old machine died. I was faced with the choice of which one to buy. I was leaning toward Electrolux, but after reading the reviews here, I'm having second thoughts... What do you guys recommend?
German-made Bosch is expensive but reliable. Tested.
Elena, where can I find it, please? It's not in Germany, but in Asia and elsewhere.
Indesits with non-separable tanks are a real piece of crap.
I've had an Indesit for 25 years now. It washes perfectly, and I'm not complaining. I don't think I'll ever get another one. It's a shame, though, because now I need to buy a machine for my country house—the problem is, I still haven't decided.
This is my third Atlant in 11 years. The first one died after 7 years. The second one died after almost 4. The bearing. The third one is still working. I will never buy it again!
I have an 11 year old Whirlpool. It's just amazing! France.
The vaunted AEG. After four years, the bearing failed, the tub is non-detachable, and the repair cost is the same as a new mid-priced washing machine!
Mine, my daughter's, and my mom's all have LGs. My mom's has been working flawlessly for five years. My daughter and I have a three-and-a-half-year-old. I was unlucky: I replaced a bearing three months ago for $35. Today, something made a loud bang. It's still there. I boiled the laundry the old-fashioned way and finished washing it by hand. If it's kaput, I'll get a different brand. Cheaper. It seems like everything is made in China. Whether it's $120 or $500. At least this way, it won't be a shame to have to replace it in five years.
I have a ZANUSSI washing machine. It's been working since 1990. But unfortunately, it's worn out. I'm very sorry. It was a good model.
My Indesit 838 has been working for 26 years. I replaced the bearing two years ago. No complaints. I can replace it with a new LG (2-in-1). No AEG options.
What's wrong with AEG? I'm thinking about buying one.
Samsung washing machine, bought in 2003. It's making a loud noise. It sounds like a bearing. The manual says a guaranteed 7-year lifespan. So, it's been working for 15 years. We're still using it, but we'll be buying a new one. Thanks to it!
I have an Italian-made Ardo. It's been running for 20 years now, and I've only had to replace the bearing. It's a fantastic car!
I've had my Indesit for 13 years. The only thing is, it's started to rust.
I've had my Bosch washing machine for 19 years now. It's never broken down and it's still working. I'm very happy about that.
I've had an Indesit washing machine for 23 years. It broke down seriously once. The heating element failed. The repairman praised the machine's assembly.
I had an Ariston HotPoint for three years. It's running fine, but a bearing broke. I'm thinking of getting a Samsung. What do you think?
My VEKO worked for 19 years in heavy-duty mode. It never broke down. But a week ago, it gave up the ghost. Now I need to buy a new one, so I'm thinking...
11 years old Russian EVGO machine. No problems so far. Works like a charm. We wash 2-4 loads 3-4 times a week.
I have an AEG! It's a fantastic machine! It lasted over 20 years and only then did it start having minor problems. It's almost 30 years old, imported from Germany. It works, but it's time for a replacement...
Our Samsung didn't even last 5 years. The board burned out 🙁 Now we're faced with the hassle of choosing again.
Guys, buy Haier, 3-year warranty, A+++
18 years old Ardo. I replaced the relay once. Yesterday I took it in for scrap metal. It's so sad it brought tears. When we loaded it up, it looked brand new, like it came straight from the store.
Where is the domestic manufacturer?
My grandmother needs a washing machine. Could you please advise me which one to buy?
It's all about price and repairability. Brand is almost irrelevant. These days, washing machines under $300-350 are designed to last 5-6 years.
I have a Vyatka, bought in 2003. It still works. But it's noisy.
