Heating element for a washing machine

Heating element for a washing machineThe heating element is the heating element. Its job is to heat the water to the required temperature in the washing machine. Its location varies across different models. In some, it's located at the front, in others, at the back. In both cases, the heating element is attached to the bottom of the tank and has two wires running to it.

When your washing machine suddenly stops heating, the first thing you need to do is check the heating element. A broken heating element is one of the most common problems with this type of appliance. The heating element fails due to contact with hard water. When heated regularly, it becomes coated with scale. Scale is one of the main causes of breakdowns.

The heating element is broken – how to replace it?

First, you need to check if the power to the washing machine is turned off. To turn it off, simply unplug it from the outlet.

Next, we need to remove the washing machine cover. The heating element is usually located at the back. This is easy to do, as in most models, the back cover can be easily removed if needed. It's held in place with just four bolts or screws.

If it is located in the front of your car, you will have to tinker with it.

Replace the heating element

To remove the front panel of the housing, you'll need to remove the clamp securing the seal. This is usually removed with round-nose pliers or a screwdriver, depending on the type of clamp used. Next, tuck the seal inside the drum to keep it out of the way. After this, release the hatch lock. It's secured with two bolts.

We'll also need to remove the control panel. To do this, first remove the cover (the top part of the washing machine's housing). It's secured at the back with two bolts. Once these bolts are removed, the cover can be pulled out of its slots. To do this, push the cover back from the front. Afterward, it will easily slide off. Next, remove the plastic dispenser tray from the bin. Next, unscrew the retaining screws and set the control panel upside down so it won't interfere with further operation.

Next, we'll remove the bottom panel. Some models have bolts, while others have latches. There may be screws behind it that need to be removed as well. After all this, we can finally remove the front panel of the washing machine.

Replacing the heating element

Replacing the heating element of a washing machineNow let's remove the heating element. As we mentioned above, the heating element is located at the bottom of the tank. First, you'll need to remove the wires from it.

If you're worried about forgetting which wires go where, you can take a photo of their locations with your phone or camera beforehand. Then, remove the terminals from the visible part of the washing machine's heating element.

Next, you need to unscrew the retaining nut located in the middle of the heating element. You don't need to remove it. Just unscrew it as far as possible, but still make sure it's still attached to the end of the thread. Then, push it inward along with the protruding pin. You may need to tap it with a hammer to do this.

Next, you can remove the heating element. To do this, you may need to pry it out with a flat-head screwdriver or a knife. Once you've removed the old, broken heating element, you can set it aside and install the new part. Reassembly is the same, but in reverse order.

This video is for those with a heating element located on the front of the machine.

For those with a front-facing heating element (most common in Bosch washing machines), we've prepared a special video to clearly demonstrate the entire process of replacing the heating element yourself. It's in English, but translation isn't really necessary. Simply follow the technician's instructions. And you'll be happy! Watch the video and replace the heating element yourself:

A video for those whose heating element is located on the back of the washing machine.

Now, for our other readers, those whose washing machine models have a rear-mounted heating element (which, by the way, is more common in Russia), we've also prepared a video. You're in luck. You won't have to remove the front panel of the machine, which is longer and more complicated than simply unscrewing a few bolts on the back and removing it. Accessing the heating element is easy.

After this, all you need to do is remove the wires and unscrew the nut. You can also leave the nut at the end of the threads, rather than completely unscrew it. Then, you'll need to press the pin inward and remove the heating element. You can also take a photo of the wires' positions beforehand if necessary. This will help you remember which wire goes where during reassembly. Watch the video on replacing a washing machine's heating element:

Where can I buy a heating element?

Where to buy a heating elementIf you're wondering where to buy a heating element, we're here to help. To purchase a heating element, you can contact any service center that services brands of washing machines similar to yours. You can also check out newspaper ads for spare parts. We do not recommend purchasing used parts, as a new heating element is quite inexpensive.

The easiest way to purchase a heating element is to find a seller online. To do this, open any search engine. You can use the most popular options, such as Yandex or Google.

Then, type something like "buy a heating element in Moscow" into the search bar. If your city isn't Moscow, replace "Moscow" with the name of your city. Then press "Enter." After doing this, you'll see search results. These are the websites the search engine thinks most closely match your search query. Click on them, check the prices for heating elements, and once you've found a suitable online store, call and order a heating element for your washing machine. You'll likely need to provide your machine model when ordering over the phone.

If the heating element you need isn't available at this particular retailer, try calling the next one. If you live in a small town or village, you may have to order the part from another larger town or village. You can also pick it up in person. However, in this case, we recommend calling the retailer first to confirm the part is in stock. This will save you time and avoid unnecessary trips.

We wish you a successful replacement of your faulty part.
