The door of the Siemens washing machine won't open.
Normally, the door of a Siemens automatic washing machine will remain locked for a couple of minutes after the cycle is complete. If the door still won't open after half an hour, there's a problem. Sometimes, a Siemens washing machine "freezes" mid-cycle, and the door won't open. In this situation, the procedure is different. Let's look at how to handle both situations.
Emergency "autopsy"
It often happens that a Siemens washing machine stops running while the program is running, "freezing" with the drum full of water. This causes the door to become unusable, as the "brain" locks the door to ensure a watertight seal. First, restart the washing machine. Unplug the machine, turn it on again, and set it to the "Drain" mode. Wait until the machine finishes the program, and then try opening the door again.
If the hatch is still blocked, check the drain hose.
Check the drain hose; it's likely clogged. If this is the case, clean the corrugated tube. Then reconnect the hose and restart the spin or drain cycle. Sometimes, a Siemens washing machine won't respond at all—it won't allow you to start the drain cycle. In this case, you'll have to empty the drum manually by removing the debris filter plug. Follow these steps:
- prepare a large container;
- Cover the floor around the washing machine with dry rags;
- Tilt the machine back slightly, place a basin under the body, where the filter is located;
- open the technical hatch, find the plug of the "garbage bin";

- take hold of the lid and unscrew the element;
- Collect the water flowing out of the machine.
After this, you can try to open the door. To open the washing machine Siemens, you will need a thin rope and a small knife. You need to do the following:
- attach the rope to the washing machine door, in the area of the locking device;
- Use the tip of a knife to push the lace inside;

- grab both ends of the rope and pull it tight;
- move the lace up and down slightly until you hear the characteristic click of the lock “engaging”;
- open the hatch.
If the door doesn't open with the rope, you can try a more sophisticated method. Unplug the washing machine and remove a couple of screws from the top panel. Remove the lid, tilt the machine back slightly, and try to reach the locking mechanism through the opening between the drum and the front wall. Once you find the latch, slide it. The lock will engage, and the machine will swing open.
What components could have failed?
A Siemens washing machine doesn't always lock the door because the drum is full. Sometimes, there's a different reason. Difficulty opening the door can be caused by:
- Handle breakage. If you open the door carelessly or with too much force, the plastic handle will stop working;

- Locking mechanism malfunction. Due to wear and tear, the locking mechanism may stop functioning. This type of malfunction is more common in washing machines that have been in use for 3-5 years;
- Failure of the pressure switch. For example, if the tank is empty, the sensor will transmit a signal to the "brain" that the "centrifuge" is full. In this situation, the control module simply won't unlock the lock to ensure the system's integrity;
- Electronic failure. If the control board is damaged, many of the machine's functions will be disrupted, including problems opening the door.
The repair strategy depends on the identified fault. If the fault lies with the level sensor, the pressure switch will need to be replaced. If the cause is a broken door lock, the locking mechanism will need to be addressed. If the problem lies with the control board, components on the control board will need to be replaced, soldered, or the wiring checked for integrity. It's best to entrust electronic repairs to professionals to avoid further damage to the equipment.
The blocking device is to blame
Often specialists have to repair the locking mechanism of Siemens washing machines. If the washing machine washes clothes smoothly, spins the laundry, notifies about the end of the cycle, but does not open the door, most likely the problem is with the door lock. To check the blocker, you need to remove it. Here's the procedure:
- Disconnect the Siemens washing machine from the power supply and turn off the water supply tap;
- open the hatch using one of the methods described above;
- bend back the outer edge of the hatch cuff, handle the latch and pull the clamp that secures the rubber band out of the housing;
- pull the seal from the side – you can see the UBL there;

- unscrew a couple of screws that hold the device;
- Pull out the blocker by releasing the latches.
To diagnose the UBL, you will need a multimeter and an electrical diagram of the lock.
At home, you can test the heating element responsible for heating the plates. To do this, activate the multimeter in ohmmeter mode and touch the probes to the neutral and live terminals of the blocker. A three-digit number displayed on the screen will indicate the element's health. Then, touch the tester probes to the common and neutral terminals. A one or zero on the multimeter display will indicate the blocker is faulty. Replacing the blocker is easy. Simply:
- connect the wiring to the purchased, working blocker;
- put the mechanism in place and insert it into the special recess for the lock;
- screw in self-tapping screws to secure the part;
- Pull the edge of the cuff over the protrusion of the housing and put the clamp back.
Now the procedure for when the machine's door won't open is clear. Be sure to drain the water from the tank by unscrewing the waste container and using a rope to unlock the lock. Then, you can begin diagnosing your Siemens washing machine.
