The motor of the Indesit washing machine does not turn on.

A washing machine is an essential household item these days, and its breakdown is a real tragedy. When the motor of an Indesit washing machine doesn't turn on, it doesn't always mean the problem is with it. There could be a multitude of reasons, but let's not read tea leaves and instead begin identifying the problem.

From simple to complex

The first thing to check is the machine's parts, which can be inspected without disassembling the body. A novice mechanic would do things differently: if the motor isn't working, the problem is most likely in the brushes. But experience shows that this isn't always the case.

Once everything has been checked from the outside, you can get inside. First, check if the water pressure is sufficient. If not, there may not be enough water in the tank, and the detergent added to the tray won't drain completely. After checking the pressure, you need to pay attention to the valve inlet; there is a filter mesh installed there, which may be clogged.

Cleaning the filter will likely restore the machine to life. The problem is that the Indesit washing machine won't start washing if the water level is low. It's not always possible to determine the problem from the error code; sometimes there simply isn't one, making it impossible to figure out what happened.

The next possible problem is located near the sunroof. The sunroof door doesn't seal tightly against the car's gasket, which is why the system may not start the engine. No matter how hard you push the door, it won't help. The problem may lie in the mechanism itself.

You need to check the door mechanism itself and the door locking system.

After checking the door, let's look under the top cover; that's where the pressure switch is located. A blockage could be the reason the motor isn't working. Is everything OK here? Let's move on. We should check the temperature sensors and all the wiring for kinks and other damage.

Let's check the electric brushes

If the motor isn't working due to mechanical issues, the brushes are most likely the culprit. They've likely worn out to the point of exhaustion.

1. The first thing you need to do is disconnect the machine from the power supply and if it is parked in a dark place (as a rule, cars are always parked there), take it out into the light so as not to shine a flashlight.
2. We unscrew the bolts on the back wall of the washing machine and remove the cover.
3. Holding the belt with your hand, remove it, and with your free hand turn the drum pulley.
4. The engine is attached with bolts, which also need to be unscrewed.
5. After removing the engine, we remove the wires from it, but do not forget to photograph their location, as it will be difficult to put them back in place later.
6. Finally, we get to the carbon brushes. They come in pairs, and if any of them are worn out, we throw them out and replace them with new ones.

After reading the manual, wait to buy new brushes; it’s quite possible that the old ones are still usable.

Testing the module

If all steps have been successful and no problems have been detected, we move on to the final step. The control module is the brains of the washing machine. If you've plugged the machine in, after inspecting the insides, immediately turn it off and open the top cover.

Pressing the latch in the center, pull the dispenser tray toward you. The screws holding the panel in place are located underneath. Once the panel is removed, you should at least visually inspect it for any defects, such as melted components or traces leading to them. Check the board itself for a burnt smell. If no visible defects are found, it's best to take the board to a professional repairman, even if you're tempted to try it yourself.
