The "Start" button on the washing machine doesn't work.
Without a start button, a washing machine is completely inoperable. Yet this button is as vulnerable as it is essential. Operating the machine begins with its operation. If the button sticks, it's still possible to operate it, but what if it doesn't? Let's figure out what to do when the "Start" button on your washing machine won't turn on.
Why did this happen?
It's difficult to immediately figure out what's causing the Start button to behave abnormally. It could be a one-time system glitch, which can be fixed in just a couple of minutes, or a more serious technical issue. Try restarting the machine. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you'll need to conduct a thorough diagnosis. The following factors could be the cause:
- problems with the network filter;
- the key itself is broken or the groove is clogged;
- technical failure of the UBL or debris getting into the lock, which leads to an erroneous response of the UBL;
- Problems with the control module board.

There is an LED circuit on the program selector, which in most cases is the cause of problems with the start button. LG brand machines are particularly susceptible to this, as almost all of them are equipped with a selector, through which programs are selected. You can test your guesses and solve the problem yourself, and quite quickly. To do this:
- start the machine;
- Rotate the program wheel sequentially, pausing opposite each mode, checking that all the lights are on.
Caution! If even one light bulb is not working, the circuit has been interrupted, causing the "Start" button to not respond.
This happens because the network connection is serial, and the signal travels from one light bulb to the next. If the network is interrupted, the control module simply doesn't receive the command to start the wash cycle, and the corresponding button doesn't work.
We're fixing the problem
First of all, of course, you need to disconnect the washing machine from all utilities. It's also a good idea to move it away from the wall or cabinet so that nothing blocks access or gets in the way.
- Remove the bolts holding the top panel and remove it.
- Remove the dispenser after loosening the screws.

- Unclip the instrument panel.
- Remove the electronic board.

- Find out which LED is burned out and disconnect it.
- You need to solder a new diode in place of the old one.
- Install the board and see if all the lights are on this time.
- Proceed in reverse order to reassemble the washing machine.
Don't focus solely on this issue. Several factors can cause the Start button to malfunction. Therefore, while working, you can also use a multimeter to check the surge protector and other buttons on the control panel, especially the Start button.
If the problem lies with the board, you won't be able to repair it yourself, as it requires specialized equipment. You'll have to call a professional.
