The washing machine won't turn on - what should I do?

The washing machine does not turn onUntil recently, your washing machine was working like clockwork. Now it simply won't turn on? This problem can catch you by surprise. It appears unexpectedly and disrupts your plans for a regular wash. If your machine is experiencing this problem, don't worry. This article may be helpful.

First, let's figure out how our breakdown manifests itself. It can manifest itself in the following ways:

  • First, when you turn on the machine, you may notice the indicator light comes on. However, water doesn't begin to fill, and the wash cycle doesn't start.
  • Secondly, the following may happen: after you plug in the washing machine, all the lights start flashing on and off. Basically, they just blink.
  • And thirdly, after you turned on the washing machine, the indicator light did not come on and nothing happened.

We've sorted out the symptoms. Now let's move on to the causes of our "disease."

What caused this malfunction?

  • The cord, plug or socket may be damaged.
  • There is no electricity.
  • The washing machine door locking system is broken.
  • The button that turns on the machine is broken.
  • Interference filter failure.
  • Broken contacts in the electrical circuit.
  • The command apparatus is faulty.
  • The module has failed.

We fix it ourselves!

Before you begin repairing your washing machine yourself, you must make sure that the plug is connected to the outlet. It's possible that the appliance is simply without power. We often forget to check the most basic of problems and immediately sound the alarm. Next, check for power. To do this, you can plug in any electrical appliance and test its functionality. If the power is on and the machine is plugged in, but it still won't turn on, then it's time to start repairing it.

First, let's turn off the power to our washing machine by removing the plug from the network.

Is the socket working properly?

To check the condition of various conductors that may be faulty, it's best to use a tester. This device is also called a multimeter. We'll use it to troubleshoot problems by "ringing" various wires, etc. A short video tutorial on how to use a multimeter is here:

To test the outlet, you can also use a test screwdriver or some other electrical appliance. For clarity, it's best to use a lamp. If the lamp connected to the outlet lights, the outlet is working properly. If it doesn't, we've found the problem. All that's left is to fix it.

To do this, we'll de-energize the apartment. This is done in the electrical panel. Then, using a screwdriver, remove the cover and repair or replace the outlet. For clarity, we've attached a video:

Is the power cord working?

If used carelessly, the washing machine's power cord can become damaged. Typically, it frays or breaks. To check for this problem, check the wires with a multimeter. If you find a break, it is better to replace the entire wire. As a last resort, you can locate the break and repair it with a twist tie or soldering iron. However, we don't recommend this option.

The button that turns on the machine is broken.

Washing machine power buttonIf your washing machine is not a new model, the problem may be with the button that turns it on. Two wires are connected to the button. Use a tester to ensure that these wires, as well as the button itself, are working properly. We'll test the button both in the off and on positions. If testing with a multimeter reveals a faulty button, we'll order a new one and replace it.

Module and command apparatus

If all previous checks have shown that everything is working properly, we move on to the next possible cause: a faulty module. As in our other articles, we do not recommend repairing or replacing the washing machine's electronic module yourself unless you have sufficient experience with similar tasks.

A new electronic module is usually quite an expensive part. Therefore, it's best to contact a specialized service center and call a repair technician.

But before calling a professional, you can check for other possible problems.

Malfunction of the interference filter

Washing machine interference filter

There's a chance the interference filter has failed. This washing machine component is designed to prevent interference from various household appliances, such as televisions, radios, and computers, while the machine is in operation. It can fail during long-term use or due to a short circuit. Three wires are connected to it at the input and two at the output. We'll also test it with a tester to ensure it's working properly. If it's faulty, we'll buy a new one and replace it.

Lock failure

If the interlock is faulty, you may notice the following problem: the indicator light illuminates when plugged in. However, even with the door closed, the wash cycle doesn't start. Check for voltage at the interlock when the washing machine is turned on. If there is voltage, but the interlock doesn't function properly, it needs to be replaced.

Video instructions for replacing the lock yourself are available here:

Integrity failure and breakage of electrical circuit wires

While the washing machine is running, some wires may come into contact with certain parts. This can cause friction and breakage. Vibrations can also cause wires to become disconnected from their mounting sockets. To detect this problem, carefully inspect all wires. This inspection will reveal the problem. You can also test suspected areas with a tester.

We hope this article helps you solve your problem. Happy renovation!

Beko washing machine. It fills with water and that's it! It just sits there. What's the problem? Something clicks every now and then, then again and again.

I forgot to close the door and water leaked out. I wiped it off, but the machine still wouldn't work. Everything was working fine, the indicator light was on, but it wasn't filling with water.

I loaded the machine, and all the buttons except the start/stop buttons are flashing, as they should be, but the program won't install (the buttons aren't responding) and the machine won't open. Model: BEKO WB 8014.
