The door of the Samsung washing machine does not close.
Sometimes Samsung washing machine users encounter a problem where the door refuses to lock after starting a program. Naturally, in this case, the wash cycle doesn't start. At the same time, the error code dE appears on the display. What should you do in this situation? We'll explain the most common reason why a Samsung washing machine's door won't close. We'll also explore other issues that can prevent the door from locking and the wash cycle from starting.
The root cause of the problem
Most often, problems with locking on Samsung washing machines are observed due to the failure of the electronic lock. The UBL is designed to ensure safety during the washing process – it does not allow the door to open. If the blocker fails, the cycle will not start, since the control module will not receive a signal that the system is completely sealed.
The device should be checked if the machine door closes tightly, the "tongue" engages the groove, but the wash cycle doesn't start, and the corresponding lock icon doesn't light up on the screen. In this situation, it's clear that the cause isn't mechanical damage, but an electronic failure.
If the blocker is burned out, black spots will be visible on it. Sometimes the device may look new, in which case you'll need to check it with a multimeter. The resistance between the contacts should normally be around 1 kOhm.
Repairing the door lock system is impractical. Experts recommend purchasing and installing a new one immediately. When choosing an electronic lock, consider the model of your Samsung automatic car.
To install a new UBL, you need to:
- de-energize the washing machine;
- turn off the valve responsible for the water supply;
- Remove the outer clamp that secures the drum seal. To do this, use a screwdriver to pry up the latch on the rim;

- bend back the rubber seal on the right and unscrew the bolts holding the blocker;
- reset the wiring from the lock;
- install the serviceable locking device in place and secure it with bolts;
- straighten the drum cuff, install the previously removed clamp.
Replacing the door lock takes 10-15 minutes. No special tools are required; a screwdriver will suffice. Once the repair is complete, plug the machine in and run a test wash. The dE error should disappear.
Problems with the door itself
Sometimes the reason why the door does not close is mechanical damage. The hatch may not lock due to wear of the locking mechanism components or misalignment of the hinges. To avoid this, you should handle the machine carefully - do not slam or pull the door, do not let children "ride" on it, and do not use the door for hanging wet things.
If a visual inspection reveals a noticeable warping of the door hinges, they must be adjusted or replaced.
When the hinges are crooked, the lock tongue no longer engages the groove. Therefore, check the door level and how tightly the hatch fasteners are tightened. To fix this, adjust the hinges by tightening any loose fasteners.
To level the hinge, you need to remove almost all of the mounting bolts, move it to the desired position, and screw the clamps back in. Samsung machines typically have special guides to indicate the correct hinge position. If these aren't available, you'll have to adjust the hinge by eye.
The problem could also be a misalignment of the hatch "tongue." In this situation, the hook also doesn't engage the locking groove. This is usually caused by the metal rod, which holds the latch in place, being displaced or falling out. The problem can be resolved by adjusting the rod or replacing the door handle entirely.
To install a new handle, you'll have to disassemble the door: remove it from the hinges and unscrew the screws around the perimeter. This will allow you to separate the plastic door. Reassembly is done in reverse order.

The washing machine door won't lock, and if I press it and turn it on, it locks. That is, it latches and starts working.
