Night program in the washing machine
Every year, household appliances become more convenient and energy-efficient, thanks to expanded functionality and improved technology. A prime example is the night mode in a washing machine. It allows you to use dual-tariff meters and run a wash cycle while you sleep. You just need to know how the program works and how to configure it. All the features and activation details are below.
Features of the night program
The key advantage of the night wash program is its silence. When this mode is activated, the washing machine operates as quietly as possible: the drum rotates smoothly, and the spin speed is reduced to a minimum of 600-800. The sound accompaniment of the cycle is also automatically turned off.
The remaining washing parameters are set manually:
- temperature – up to 95 degrees;
- washing time – from 60 minutes (depending on the degree of heating of the water);

- delayed start – up to 12-24 hours (depending on the machine model);
- extra rinse – available.
When the Night Wash program is activated, the machine operates more quietly.
It's important to understand that even a washing machine equipped with a modern inverter motor won't operate silently. Night washing is quieter due to the slow drum rotation and disabled audible signals, but the hum of the motor, shaft, and pump is still audible. If the machine is located near a bedroom and the occupants are light sleepers, it's best not to turn it on at night. In other situations, the "moon" program is a convenient feature.
Activating the night program
Activating the night mode is simple. First, you need to activate the delayed start so the washing machine finishes the cycle just in time for the owners to wake up. If you activate the program before bed, the machine will finish washing by 2 or 3 a.m., leaving the wet laundry in the drum for the remaining 3-5 hours. Such a long "rest" is dangerous for the fabrics—they will wrinkle more and develop a musty odor.
To prevent laundry from becoming stale, you need to adjust the delayed start of the cycle as follows:
- calculate the time so that the cycle is completed by morning;
- Find the delay wash indicator on the dashboard (highlighted in bold);

- press the button a certain number of times;
- check if the timer is set correctly.
The delayed start function allows you to delay the start of a cycle for 6-24 hours.
Next, all that's left to do is set the night function. Select the appropriate position on the programmer and adjust the temperature and cycle duration. The RPM cannot be increased—the maximum limit is 600-800 rpm. You can also activate the pre-wash option. easy ironing and additional rinsing.
Some machines may have different algorithms for activating the night program. To avoid setting errors, carefully read the manufacturer's instructions. They always describe all modes and how to activate them.
The best cars with night modes
Almost every brand produces washing machines with an overnight wash option. While the implementation of this program is generally the same on most machines, the overall power and functionality of the machines vary greatly. To find the best washing machine, it is recommended to look at other parameters in addition to the sleep cycle. A brief overview of the most popular models with a "quiet" mode will help you find the optimal "assistant."
The Beko WDB 7425 R2W is a silent-mode washing machine. This freestanding front-loading machine has a built-in dryer. It can spin up to 7 kg of laundry per cycle and dry approximately 4 kg. This model also features:
- delayed start for 24 hours;
- choosing the end time of the cycle;
- complete safety (leak protection, panel lock, imbalance and foam level control);
- additional loading of laundry (through the main hatch);
- controlled from a smartphone.

In addition to the night mode, the Beko WDB 7425 R2W has 14 other programs. These include delicate and pre-wash, as well as the rare "Steam," "Rapid," "Down," "Anti-Crease," "Mixed," and "Shirts" functions. Users note the increased energy consumption (class B) and the large dimensions of the machine (the depth is 50 cm).
Bosch also offers quiet washing machines. Two models with a night wash feature are popular: the WLG 20240 and the WLP20265OE. The former is less expensive and is a freestanding front-loading machine with a 5 kg capacity. It's a slim machine with a removable lid for built-in installation and a digital display. Its key performance features are as follows:
- energy consumption class A;
- spin – up to 1000 rpm;
- leak protection – complete, plus manual panel locking and automatic drum balancing control;
- programs – 15 (including economical, super-fast, sensitive, stain removal and soaking);
- start delay – up to 24 hours.
Among the advantages of the Bosch WLG 20240, users note its excellent price-quality ratio, simple menu, the ability to shorten the wash cycle, quiet operation, and a 15-minute cycle speed. Disadvantages include the non-detachable tub and short hoses.
The Bosch WLP20265OE from the Serie 4 line also offers a night program. This is another narrow front-loading washer, but with a larger drum – up to 6.5 kg of laundry. This washing machine has the basic Bosch functionality: electronic control, inverter motor, economical energy consumption, more than 10 modes, and additional loading of laundry through the main hatch. A 24-hour delayed start timer is a must, and the machine is fully protected against leaks, accidental operation, imbalance, and excessive foaming. The maximum noise level during washing is 53 dB, and during spinning, it reaches 72 dB.
Reviews of the Bosch WLP20265OE are overwhelmingly positive. Customers note minimal vibration, a pleasing design, compact size, and relatively low price. However, there are some drawbacks: the display's outdated, bright glow, the non-detachable tank, and the weak spin speed at 1000 rpm.
Among top-loading washing machines, the Weissgauff WM 40380 TD Inverter boasts an overnight wash cycle. It can wash up to 8 kg of laundry in a single cycle, while consuming minimal energy—it's rated A+++, the highest energy efficiency class. Other advantages include:
- complete protection against leaks;
- built-in wash timer;
- high-speed spin with a maximum of 1300 rpm;
- 16 programs (in addition to the standard ones, there are “Sport”, “Mixed fabrics” and “Children's clothing”);
- delay the start for up to 24 hours.
Among the downsides, Weissgauff users note the inconvenient adjustment of the machine's feet. A key for tightening the feet isn't included, and without alignment, the washing machine begins to bounce and make noise. Drum "parking" issues have also been noted—the tank sometimes stops with the doors facing sideways or downwards.
The LG F-2V5HS0W, a freestanding front-loading washing machine, also features a night mode. Its design is particularly striking: a stylish combination of a white body with a contrasting black door and display. The machine's features will also please the owner:
- capacity up to 7 kg;
- control from a smartphone;
- support for smart home systems from Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Yandex Smart Home;
- direct drive with inverter motor;
- energy consumption class A;
- spin acceleration up to 1200 rpm;
- 14 programs (including steam and quick wash).
Positive reviews of LG machines note the build quality and the convenient option to download new modes into the washing machine's memory. Negative reviews mention difficulty opening the hatch and loud noise when drawing water.
A night program on your washing machine will save you time and money—it'll run while everyone's asleep. Just be sure to adjust the cycle start time and remove the laundry from the drum in the morning.
