New washing machine – first wash and start-up

They delivered a washing machineCongratulations on your new washing machine! Now that you've acquired this useful household helper, you can finally run your first automatic wash. But before that, you need to install it.

If it's already installed and connected, and these issues were handled by professionals, you can skip the following tips. However, if you installed the machine yourself or someone who isn't a professional installer or appliance repair technician did the installation, you need to make sure everything was done correctly.

Checking the washing machine's readiness for operation

To prepare, please read and follow these steps:

  • Check to see if the shipping bolts are removed. These items are needed to secure the washing machine drum during transport. They are located at the back of the washing machine. If you find them, the machine is not yet ready to use. First, you'll need to remove these securing elements. The remaining holes where the bolts were should be covered with special plugs. These are included with your new appliance.
  • It's a good idea to find out the hardness of your tap water. This will help you choose the right type of detergent and the right amount to use for proper washing.
  • You also need to check whether the machine is connected to the power supply, water supply and sewerage system.
  • Check if the tap that shuts off the water from the inlet hose is open.
  • Throw dirty clothes into the washing machine tank.
  • Pour the required amount of powder into the appropriate dispenser tray.
  • Set the washing program. Some models also require you to select the washing temperature.
  • Then start the wash. To do this, press the start button.
  • Don't worry if your machine doesn't allow you to open the door immediately after washing. Typically, you'll need to wait up to three minutes after washing before the lock releases and allows you to remove your washed items.

Many appliance repair technicians recommend doing the first run "empty," meaning without any laundry in the drum. It's done the same way as a regular wash. The only difference is that you don't put any laundry in the machine at all. You also use less detergent. Even though all washing machines are tested before they go on sale, it's best to use the "empty" wash cycle. This will flush the inside of the machine and prevent any unpleasant odor from developing during the first wash.

Tips for proper washing

And finally, we will give you some tips on how to wash your clothes correctly:

  • Wash whites and colors separately. This will prevent light-colored items from discoloring.
  • Leave the machine door slightly open between washes. This will allow moisture to evaporate from the drum rather than stagnate. This will help prevent odors.
  • Be very careful not to leave anything in the pockets of items you plan to wash. Small items, such as coins, rings, and the like, can damage the machine. Sharp objects, such as pins, can puncture the cuff, causing leaks.
  • Clean the drain pump filter regularly. It's easy. On most models, it's located on the lower right side of the machine. Cleaning it will not only prevent unpleasant odors but also prevent breakdowns.
  • For high-quality washing, use only detergent designed for automatic washing machines. And don't use more than 100 grams per wash.

Congratulations again on your purchase of a washing machine. This useful appliance will make your life easier and free up a ton of time!
