Washing machine feet – how to adjust?

How to adjust the feet of a washing machineAny washing machine needs to be installed correctly. If installed incorrectly, it can negatively impact both the washing results and the lifespan of the appliance. Furthermore, improper installation can cause noise.

If the machine's feet aren't adjusted, it's likely to be unstable. It may also wobble during washing. This wobbling and vibration can cause internal parts to come into contact with the machine's frame or with each other. This will cause noise. Besides the noise, this type of installation will lead to rapid component failure. And some parts are expensive.

In addition to adjusting the feet, you also need to consider the floor surface where the washing machine will be located. A floor that's ideal for our appliances should be hard and level, such as concrete. If you're installing a washing machine in a wooden country house, it's advisable to prepare a separate floor area for the machine. This will need to be filled with concrete.

How to adjust a washing machine?

Washing machine feetTo adjust and level the machine, its creators provided special twist-out feet. To increase or decrease the height of a particular foot, you can screw it into the housing or, conversely, unscrew it. This will help you level the washing machine.

To make sure it's stable, you can gently rock it. If it tilts to one side, you need to adjust the foot on that side. In other words, raise its height. If it tilts to both sides, you need to unscrew the two feet one at a time. Continue this until the washing machine is stable.

Don't turn all the feet to the maximum at once. This will prevent you from installing the machine correctly.

Important nuances for proper adjustment

Yellow building levelBeyond simply adjusting the washing machine's feet by eye, special adjustment is highly recommended. Besides ensuring stability, a machine needs to be level for proper operation. Therefore, it's important to consider whether the machine is tilted to one side or the other.

To check this, we recommend using a spirit level. This tool is excellent for measuring deviations. Place it on the top of the washing machine, first parallel to the front and back of the machine. Then parallel to the sides. Note the position of the bubble in the water compartment. It should be within the lines in the center of the glass compartment. This means the machine is level. If the bubble deviates to the left or right, the feet need to be adjusted.

Adjusting your washing machine's feet with a spirit level will ensure the appliance is positioned correctly. This, in turn, ensures that the internal components of the machine don't touch each other or the body unnecessarily during operation. This will also ensure longer-lasting performance.

If you follow the installation rules for your washing machine, you will enjoy using it for a long time and for a pleasant experience.

What else is important when installing the machine?

  • Don't forget to remove the shipping bolts. They are located at the back of the washing machine and secure the drum. Seal the holes with the plugs included in the kit.
  • Place the inlet hose in a drain location. This can be a drain pipe, sink, or bathtub. The hose should not be positioned higher than the height recommended by the manufacturer of your washing machine. You can find these recommendations in the documentation that came with your appliance.
  • You'll also need to connect to the cold water supply. Your washing machine comes with an inlet hose for this purpose. It screws onto the washing machine and a special connection. If you don't have one, you'll need to install one. There should be a shut-off valve before the water supply branch leading to the machine.
  • Now all that's left to do is connect the machine to the power supply. It's best to use a separate outlet with a residual-current device (RCD) and a circuit breaker.

To make it easier for you to connect the machine yourself, we decided to add a video:

I have a leg (new), as in the photo, but the nuts are stuck together so tightly that I can't unscrew them no matter how hard I try. Now I don't know how to adjust them.
