Degreaser for dishwashers
Even with proper care and following all instructions, heavy use of the dishwasher leads to grease residues settling inside the unit. This buildup can seriously compromise the dishwasher's smooth operation. While cleaning the inside of the dishwasher manually is possible, it requires frequent cleaning, and given the effort and energy required, it's quite a chore. However, there are special products—dishwasher degreasers—that can easily remove grease.
What does this product look like?
The most popular and reputable degreaser, Electrolux, is sold in 200-milliliter plastic bottles. A single bottle costs approximately $2.50 at mass-market stores.
The product itself is a white powder with a pleasant floral or fruity scent. Its ingredients are similar to those of regular detergent: surfactants, 5% polycarboxylates, fragrance, etc. Electrolux's miracle product works like this: the powder dissolves in water, forming a special liquid that easily breaks down fatty compounds. If this liquid is left floating around inside the dishwasher, grease doesn't stand a chance.
How to apply?
One bottle is used only once, meaning you can use it all at once. However, this isn't at all expensive, as the manufacturers recommend repeating the procedure only once every six months; more often is simply not necessary. The product must be used strictly without rinsing. If there's a program that skips this step, choose it. If not, wait until the rinse cycle is complete before adding the dishwasher degreaser. How do you do this?
- Place the product not in the detergent compartment, but at the bottom of the washing chamber. This way, the Electrolux detergent will dissolve faster and, therefore, penetrate the system and begin working faster.
- Set the washing machine to a high temperature setting. Ideally, 50 degrees or higher. Generally, the higher the temperature, the better.
Important! It's also recommended to set the washing time to the longest setting. The longer the cleaning time, the better the results!
After completing the wash cycle, you can check the results yourself. If the grease residue still hasn't dissolved, it's possible one of the recommendations was not followed. Find out and wash again in a month, taking into account any mistakes.

I had no idea a degreaser existed before. I cleaned the insides myself: every couple of months I'd polish the chamber until it shined, remove all the filters and clean them by hand, then put everything back in place and run a dry wash with regular detergent. dishwashing liquid.
When I heard about dishwasher degreasers, I decided to test them to see if they were really that good. However, we had to work hard to find one, because this product was not sold in household chemical stores in our city.I personally found it at the Eldorado home appliance store, where a jar cost $2.49.
Now, about the Electrolux. According to the instructions, you empty the entire container into the bottom of the washing chamber and run a long wash at high temperature. My dishwasher doesn't have a pre-rinse cycle, so I had to wait for it to finish, then open it and pour in the detergent, which isn't very convenient.
Important! I was disappointed with the cleaning results. Yes, the surface of the internals was sparkling, but the filters remained clogged with grease. I had to take them out again and clean them manually.
Therefore, I don’t see any particular benefit or point in using a dishwasher degreaser: it doesn’t really save time, money, or effort.
